If you're looking for an authentic Bavarian beer-hall experience in Munich, you need to add this to your "must go" list. It can get really lively and social, which means it can get loud. So expect the noise and energy. They have a great menu and plenty of brews to choose from. The staff are attentive and cheerful, but they can get busy as well. Definitely a place that I'll return to if I'm ever back in Munich. Prost!
While waiting for our room to be ready, we checked out restaurants around us and Schneider Bräuhaus seemed to have the best looking food from customer posts. Schneider Bräuhaus was the first stop after we checked into our hotel. Not only were we excited to have German food in Germany but we were starving after a long day getting to Munich. When we arrived, there was a line out the door. It moved relatively quickly considering how busy they were. At least we could enjoy seeing all the Lederhosen and Dirndl's others were wearing. We ended up sharing a table with 2 other groups. There are menus on the table in both German and English. We had an idea of what we wanted but seeing the actual names of the dishes helped. Our server was working her tail off! When she could finally take our order, we ordered a Butcher's Platter, a Josefi-Schnitzel, a Spicy Braised Meat Shreds from BayernOX, a bottle of water and a glass of Schneider Weisse Tap7 "Original". She recommended I try that beer. It was really good so thank her for that recommendation. Five stars on her hustle and customer service. Our drinks didn't take long to arrive but the food took a minute. It was understandable since they were fully occupied. All three plates came at the same time. As we dug in, we started with the sausages and tried them one by one. They were all different but each very good. The mustard with some saurkraut made it legit. The Schnitzel was really good too! We both thought the Spicy Braised Meat Shreds from BayernOX would have been the best dish but it ended up our least favorite. We can see why they are so popular as the food and beer doesn't disappoint. Definitely worth waiting in line for.
Recommended by someone back home in California. Huge place with a large tourist crowd. The menu is very Bavarian and what we tried was very tasty. Sauerbraten from Bavarian Ox: Wow, that's a lot of meat! Tastes like a pot roast, though a tad meatier maybe because it's ox instead of beef cow. Very rich sauce too. The spongy dumpling ball does a good job sopping up all the sauce. Josefi-Schnitzel: I know they used some sort special pretzel breading, but I really didn't notice it. Texture was still very finely ground like regular schnitzel and it didn't taste very pretzel-y. However, it was well executed with juicy meat inside a crispy shell. The potato salad was very creamy, if you're into that type of thing. DOC Schneider's Bavarian Cola: Needing to detox a bit after Oktoberfest the night before, decided to avoid the beer. I assume by the name, this is house made cola. It was fine, pretty standard tasting.
Love this place! You can never go wrong. German style seating. Just walk in and sit at a table with open seats even if other people are there. The food is the best in Munich. The conversations with anyone and everyone is great.
On our whirlwind day tour of Munich this was like our #5 stop for beers and or food. I got the Helles. My son got the lager. The place was popping with locals and tourists alike. The locals' tables were full and cheery. We had a very nice, attentive server who made sure we were good at all times. They have nice prices @ 4.90 for 0,5l beer. Comfortable, clean, and fun, don't miss this very nice brauhaus
The second day in Munich, we met some relatives who live in Germany to have dinner at this restaurant, downtown Munich. This is the first time we try German food and beer. This place is famous for its beer as we heard and the beer was so good. The restaurant is very nice and big, there are many dining rooms, it was cold and they have hanger at every wall for coats. To me, the prices are very reasonable, the service was excellent. German food seems to have many dishes of Pork, I like the crispy skin pork belly of some kind. Very tasty. The potato balls were so good that we ordered 2. There are 2 types of special beers, we ordered both, one has a little sweetness and one is just dark beer. They're both so smooth and excellent. If you ask the pleasant waitresses there, they will recommend what you should have for the first timer. Everyone tried a different dishes so we can taste them all, but they're pretty similar, especially with pork. Pork knuckle, Pork belly, Pork chop fried... We're glad that we found this place by walking by, excellent food, good beer and great atmosphere with services.
Your typical traditional Bavarian Brauhaus in Old Town. Their beer itself is very wheaty, so if you don't like beer, get a Radler. The food itself is very good, but also very heavy, so expect to go vegan for a week after a full meal here. My only gripe here is that there were flies, flies everywhere (we sat outside). Flies will swarm to your table if you have food, especially sauerkraut. Beer, not so much. So if you want to eat, you should eat indoors, otherwise you'll be battling with flies for the remainder of the meal. - Schneider Russ: Their signature Schneider Weiss beer mixed with Zitronen Kracherl soda. It's a bit bitter for my own taste. People that like dark beer might like this. - Tegernseer Radler: A Bavarian lager mixed with Zitronen Kracherl soda. More sweet. Good for people who are beer-reluctant. - Schweinshaxe mit Krusperl: When I think of German food, I think pork knuckle, and this was a good Schweinshaxe. The crispy cracklin' skin is to die for (literally, fat and cholesterol), but it's so good. Comes with potato dumplings. Note that dumpling means a boiled doughball, no filling. - Bayerischer Bauernschmaus: The Bavarian platter when you're not sure what to get. There's roast pork, sausage, sauerkraut, and wheat dumpling. Note that dumpling means a boiled doughball, no filling.
I spent 2 weeks in Europe. And this was THE meal I tell everyone about. The breakfast Weisswurst were so delicious....even if I may have eaten them wrong. I had never had beer for breakfast until I ate here. And this beer was PERFECT for a breakfast beer. Not all hoppy and bitter and angry. But smooth with a slight malty flavor. I also ordered up a Sturdy Sepp and a pretzel to share. It was all so good and I lasted the whole day on the food I had. The community table style service is my favorite way to eat a meal. I will for sure go back here when I get another chance to be in Munich.
Good beer, good food, great staff, what else could you want?! Schneider is a world famous major brew house for their top notch wheat beers. There is a huge selection to pick from including collaboration beers. The menu even suggests which beer to pair with which dish so you get the best experience possible. Prices run about €15-25 for food and €5 for beer. The schnitzel was top notch and the liver cheese was very good. Even the goulash was solid! There is a seasonal Oktoberfest menu if you come at that time. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. The inside even has a small stage where you might get music. The outside us pretty standard but expect noise and maybe cigarette smoke. Staff speaks English very well.
omg little Hitler is here * When we tried to sit down, they told us the table was reserved and didn't let us sit. And later we found out -there was no reservation- * A German guest said, "We're leaving now - you can sit here," and gave us their table. But the staff didn't bring new coasters or paper menus, leaving the used ones there. * While looking at the menu, we tried to ask a question, but they told us they wouldn't help until we had decided on everything. * There were six of us, but they only gave us five sets of cutlery. When we asked for one more, they pretended to clean another table and ignored us. * We asked for side plates and were completely ignored. * They slammed the dishes and beer on the table. * We asked for the bill, but they didn't come for ages. Only when we got up to leave did they finally come over so we could pay. I've had nothing but great memories traveling around Europe, but this was the first time I experienced such blatant racism. Absolutely terrible.
German food! I tried the homemade obazda cheese spread with the hop bread, which is specific to Munich. I also tried the potato pancakes enjoyed with applesauce. There's also a bar on tap and plenty of seating options
Sat outside and had the "in season" white asparagus and a few others German traditional dishes. All were excellent. The beer here was excellent and a favorite of mine. Had a weis and a traditional Schneider while there. (Short beers). If you can find seating, outside in a beautiful day can't be beat. Service was good. read more

PROST!!!! OKTOBERFEST We arrived in Munich, there on our lederhosen and drindl and immediately off to the Oktoberfest events and a lunch here at Schneider! We got right in after maybe a 5 min wait and we were seated quickly tomorrow private table upstairs.There were 5 of us so it was very spacious and not too loud. We enjoyed beer and wine first and then we enjoyed several dishes that are in the pictures here. All were very good as most food in Munich at these restaurants is. Our server was very polite and she took our orders and suggested some items as well. Food came without too much delay and was very tasty. We stayed and enjoyed for at least 2 hours then back to the festivities once they cleared the bomb threat and started letting everyone back in. If you're in Munich for any reason - Schneider is a great place for some beer, wine and german food! Keep Munching! read more

The service here was wonderful for our Monday night dinner. We were told it is open seating and had some time to look at the menu before ordering drinks and food. For the obligatory dinner beer I had the aventinus, a dark ruby wheat doppelbock. Lots of caramel flavors and went really well with the pork knuckle. For dinner I got the pork knuckle, which is half a portion and came with a bread dumpling. Fyi this is a large portion and enough to share between two people. My husband got the brew house grostl, which is fried potatoes with roast pork, ham, egg, and onion. This dish came out looking like an egg scramble. He said he would have preferred some ketchup to go with it as it seemed a little dry. The highlight was really our server, who was the friendliest server we've had on our trip. She checked on us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed and was very nice. They do take care here. read more
After walking around all day, I was ready to sit and have an enjoyable dinner. We walked in and found a table. The waitresses are dressed in traditional garb. We were given a QR code for the menu. We ordered the Schneider's Aventinus beer roast (crisply braised pork belly served with sauerkraut and potato pancakes) and liver. It was a heavy meal. I wished the pork belly was cut into thinner slices, but enjoyed the potato pancakes. Even more so, I loved the liver entree. Bad news for my cholesterol. read more

Not sure why on Yelp it says "By appointment only" because it's definitely not!! Schneider Bräuhaus is a huge and popular restaurant serving traditional Bavarian food, a street down from Marienplatz. We were looking for a place to try Weisswurst (a "traditional" Bavarian breakfast dish) and everyone seemed to recommend this place so we headed over at about 11 am. Do note that Weisswurst and their other breakfast items are only served until noon, with the rest of the menu starting at 11 am. When we came, nearly every table had a bowl of weisswurst and truth be told, they were pretty delicious here. Just remember to eat them properly - you have to remove the casing of the wurst before you eat it! Every table also gets a free basket of pretzels (which were a bit stale, but a nice gesture). Service here was great, the food is great, I wish I came back for dinner because the food is top notch. read more

This was by far my favorite place I dined at my entire trip. The beers were amazing and so was the food. If you like Weizen (wheat) beers, then you must come here. I love that they bring you a basket of pretzels. The place is pretty big, so grab an opened seat and get ready for a great time. The staff is very friendly and they have English menus to help you decide what to order. Can't wait to come back again! read more
One of my favorite restaurants in Germany! Schneider Brauhaus has served up traditional Bavarian cuisine spanning as far back as the early 20th century. *Walk-ins are available! Just be sure to come in on off-peak hours because the entire two-story restaurant fills up ridiculously fast. We wanted to come here for our New Years Eve dinner, and even at 5 pm a lot of the tables were already taken. We also came here on New Years Day (it's open!) for breakfast. Pork knuckle - If any restaurant offered pork knuckle, my family ordered it. Schneider Brauhaus's pork knuckle was generously-sized. It had a crunchy skin reminiscent of chicharrones, but the meat inside was very tender and easily fell off the bone. Sausage sample - One of the more popular dishes offered, it came with 5 different types of frankfurters along with steamed potatoes and sauerkraut. Pork belly - This was my dad's favorite style of Bavarian pork dishes. The pork skin was crispy but the meat was succulent. You could dip it in gravy or eat it as is. The potato pancakes also had a nice crunch on the outside. Pork Kidney - Don't be grossed out by offal! They're actually very common in Bavarian cuisine. The kidney pieces had hardly any aftertaste, and the meat had a stiffer texture compared with sausages. They came on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and deep fried onion skin. Weisswurst - We purposely came back here the next day to try weisswurst (MORNING ONLY DISH!). It's a white sausage that's made of minced veal and pork back bacon, then flavored with spices such as parsley, onions, cardamom, lemon, etc. Be sure not to eat the casing. Service was fantastic. After we found our own table, our waitress immediately presented us with English menus and then asked for our drinks orders. The food came very fast after ordering, which wasn't always the case during our vacation. We ordered 3 different types of draft beer, but I was so caught up on the food that I didn't really pay attention to them haha. read more

If you want the classic open seating, but want to avoid the massive tourist fest down the street you should head to Schneider Brauhaus. On my trip to Germany, if there was a pork knuckle on the menu, my goal was to order it. To start off my meal I had the TAP6 Mein Original, which was an easy drinking wheat beer. For my appetizer, I decided on the roast sausages served on sauerkraut. They were linked up and beautifully. Dip them in mustard and follow up with beer and you're in a happy place. To step it up a notch, my pork knuckle came with a side of potato dumpling. I found the consistency of Germany's potato dumpling a little weird. It's like a chewy ball, but I got used to it quickly and now love them. The pork knuckle was excellent. The skin was crispy and had a great crunch like a potato chip. The meat was very tender and flavorful. It was so large after eating my appetizer that I brought a good amount home. To end my time at Schneider, I got the Tegernseer Hell which had a good amount of hops. The Schneider Brauhaus is an excellent place to relax and enjoy a good meal with friends while making new ones as well. read more
Schneider Brauhaus is a Bavarian Restaurant located near Marienplatz. It's one of many Bavarian places you can go to. It is huge inside and outside. Just like most Bavarian places in the Town Center, it's pretty good. One thing I like most about Schneider Brauhaus is their beer. They serve Schneider Weiss Beers, which is one of my favorite beers in Munich. Then again, it's a matter of taste. All beers are good in Munich, but I think Schneider is one of my favorite because how smooth it is. Like most touristy, big, Bavarian places, the people here can speak English. So don't be afraid to come here and ask for an English Menu. I tried their Bavarian peasant's feast. I came with pickled roasted pork, roasted sausage, sauerkraut, and pretzel dumpling. I loved this dish because it was a good sampler of everything Bavarian. You have a nice chunk of roasted pork, sausage, sauerkraut, and dumpling. How much more German can you get? I loved all of the items on this platter. I highly recommend it. I also tried their schweinshaxe. It's basically roasted pork knuckle. It's huge and is a lot of fat. But if you're a pork lover, this is for you. The skin was nice and crispy. The meat was juicy and flavorful. It's like eating a big mound of bacon. All that fat and pork is a bit too much for me. But it's a good thing to try when you're in Munich. For good beer and food, this is a great place to go in Munich. They even serve breakfast here. read more
If you want authentic German food, drinks and atmosphere --- then Schneider Bräuhaus is a good stop. From the moment you enter, you feel the 'German' in the air. The restaurant is set up in the traditional family style seating. You might not know your neighbors when you arrive, but you are fast friends after having your meal. TIP: Of all the traditional German restaurants I visited, this one had the best English menu. read more
Sooooo I'm not a meat and potatoes kind of gal. I know, I know German.food is a lot of meat and potatoes. We came across this restaurant and I'm glad we decided to check it out. Loved the decor, very Bavarian...suprise surprise it's a Bavarian restaurant. We decided to sit a high top , community table. We started off with the cheese plate, it had two spreads, one is the typical cheese spread and I'm not sure what the other one was.The cheese was good, some I liked more than others. It didn't come with bread or crackers so we decided to purchase a pretzel. As for entrees, I ordered a pork dish with a potato dumpling and my friend ordered a vegetarian soup. It was really good, just a bit heavy for me and I wished a veggie was involved but the flavor was amazing . Service and food were great so if you're looking for Bavarian this would be the place to go. read more
My friend and I ordered the pork knuckle and the spatzle, which comes with a side salad. The pork knuckle was absolutely delicious. It's perfectly salty, very tender, and had lots of meat on it and not too much fat. The skin was perfectly crispy and of course, was the best part . This dish also comes with a potato dumpling (13.90 euros). The spatzle (9.90 euros) reminded me of Mac and Cheese by has more of a smoky flavor. It's topped with fried onions, which gives it a nice crunch. The portion is large and shareable. The side salad it comes with has a dressing that makes it taste like potato salad. It was refreshing! Our waitress brought menus to us right away, was easy to flag down, and was friendly, which isn't too common. They take credit card as long as you spend at least 20 euros. read more

Delicious food and beer at reasonable prices. Can't ask for more! The ambiance in this establishment is casual and lively, with the servers wearing lovely traditional German garb. The tables downstairs are large and can seat many. Expect the possibility of sharing your table with strangers if it's busy, which is a really great use of space. When it comes time to pay for the check, your server will bring over the credit card processing machine and take care of everything right at the table. There didn't appear to be a space to add a tip, so we opted to leave €5 on the table (hard to not want to tip as Americans). If we were staying in Munich for an extended period of time then we'd certainly choose to eat here again. read more

If it gets any better than Schneider (Weisses) Brauhaus, I'd LOVE to know about it! Schneider was recommended to us by our first tour guide as we wanted authentic German food, and wanted to avoid the big tourist traps. We were not disappointed. (Another guide on our tour a few days later with a different tour company also recommended it as her favorite place, and was very happy when we told her we'd dined there the past two nights in a row). Please be sure to reserve a table here! Despite it not really being frequented by tourists, it is always very busy and packed with locals. We were very fortunate to have been seated right away despite not having a reservation. Please also know that you'll likely be seated at a big table with others, which is actually a great thing (the nice German people the second night shared their dessert with us, wanted to buy us drinks, etc. I really miss the incredibly nice German people and their hospitality!) The food was absolutely, truly, amazingly, outstanding!!! The suckling pig with crispy skin was the best meal I had in my entire European visit. My travel companion, who doesn't eat mammalian meat, opted for the catfish. The Bavarian pretzels were awesome (not the best we'd had in Bavaria, but close), and the mustards (which you have to ask for) were better than any words can describe. I don't speak a word of German, so it was very nice that the barmaid who greeted and waited on us both nights spoke English perfectly. We both ordered the apple fritter dessert, and it too was amazing. Nice and light and crisp, and not remotely oily despite it having been deep fried. We were so impressed that we went back for dinner the next night. I got the pork knuckle, and my friend got the catfish again. Service was fast, and the food was superb. Despite not being a beer drinker, I tried their "original" on tap #7 (enthusiastically recommended by our first tour guide). It has been in production since the 1200s, and it was amazing...amazing enough that I'd drink it all the time if I lived there. The crystal brew was very light and crisp, but I preferred the #7. You simply cannot beat Schneider (Weisses) Brauhaus, so you simply must indulge if you're in Gremany. read more
