With the end in mind I was content with the haircut as it ended up but I was disappointed that the stylist could not do a traditional skin fad and beard trim as I requested. I made a request when booking my appointment that I wanted the best stylist whom could do a fad on hair and beards. The team member whom took my appointment assured me the stylist I was assigned was a new graduate and new all the trends and techniques. My stylists was very new and had to stop to ask a more experienced stylist for help on technique. Again was content with the look when all was done but the bread trim and hair cut did not meet what I was looking for the 40 dollar charge. I saw Dawn for a haircut at Kate and Co and loved it! She was so friendly and knowledgeable about hair. I hadn't cut my hair in a super long time so I was nervous to get it done. I was in town for a wedding back in late June. I just needed a simple blow out. Walked by the salon the evening of the rehearsal dinner---and went in to grab an appointment for the next day--day of the wedding. Kudos for making an out of towner happy by fitting me into a busy scheduled Saturday. I went here instead of the Aveda/Jiva salon across the street because of bad reviews on Yelp. I wish I had ignored them and went to Jiva. I made some new friends at the rehearsal dinner --two other women whose men were in the wedding party and we hung out for various spa/salon services while our men were with the wedding party getting photos taken. The other two women also had bad experiences here at Kate's. One was charged over $85 for a mani/pedi and we're all from big cities. Seemed very steep. The other one had a shaky polish change that was left to be desired. My story: I have thick hair ---little wave. I went in with a picture of myself after I leave my home town salon. Simple--wet hair, use a round brush and blow straight in sections, flipping a bit at the bottom. Don't use a ton of product. The scalp massage during hair wash was great--but that's where the good ended. The stylist (i THINK it was Tiffany?) turned on her hair dryer and heated up a flat brush (not round) --and one of the two smelled of stale smoke. She dried my hair ok. Then got out the flat iron and proceeded to spray hairspray, iron, and more hair spray in tiny sections. I don't mind a little product but this was getting too much. I kind of snoozed in the chair (my fault--I know--but I was jet lagging) and I looked in the mirror and my hair was HUGE---big hair. SOOO not what the picture I showed. I told her---that it was too big and she tried to run her fingers through it to make it look more natural but it was way too much product. After she tousled it a bit more---she got out the hairspray can again and I said--no, no more spray and that I had to go. I could not get out quick enough after paying my $30. Waste of money and time. I called my new girlfriends and said to wait for me at hotel before we met for lunch. I immediately ran back to hotel and washed out the cigarette smoke and hair spray. Thankfully my new friends had a great hair dryer at hotel and I had my trusty round brush--and I was able to get my own hair done for the wedding. if you want big hair---with lots of product---this place is for you. Worst manicure ever. I'm kicking myself for not walking out when she was shaping my nails. She seemed inexperienced filing other people's nails and I had to ask twice to fix the length and shape. My cuticles were not soaked beforehand and got minimal attention. The polish looked like it was done by a second grader. The application was uneven, full of bumps, on my cuticles and surrounding skin. There were no fans to help dry the polish, which is especially disappointing in the winter when you need to put your coat, etc. on. The manicurist didn't offer to grab my coat or bag to avoid further smudges. Because I'm in from out of town, I went straight to a drug store to buy nail supplies, took off the crappy manicure and repolished myself. What should have been a relaxing afternoon turned into frustration and a waste of time and money. For what it's worth, I've had manicures at Jiva Salon with great results and tried Kate's On Main because of the better price and because they carry Zoya polish. Never again. I've had much better manicures from the no-name nail salon at College Square Mall. I'll be calling to request a refund tomorrow. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

I had a VERY bad experience here. I requested to lighten up my dark brown hair to attempt to get closer to my natural light brown color. The Stylist ended up dying my whole underside of hair golden blonde. On top of the complete wrong coloring, she started the foils halfway down my hair. You can see my grown out brown hair (top), speckles of my dark brown hair (middle-ish), and the golden blonde she had just applied the rest of the way down. She never acknowledged this big mistake or offered to fix it at no cost. After about 4 hours in the chair (she was also late to the appointment) and $120 later, i am left with this mess. NEVER AGAIN will I be going back. read more

My wife was on her way to get her hair done for her dads wedding today. Her sister was already waiting at the salon and about 5 minutes before the appointment my wife called ahead to let them know she would be ten minutes late. Both her and her sister were told the salon was canceling their appointments for being ten minutes late and one of them was already there. This was for their fathers wedding. So now they are stuck making new plans instead of being with family on a special day. My wife put the baby down and rushed out to make it on time. She even called ahead on the way to tell them she would be right there. Their rude attitude when canceling the appointment on a special day like this lost them two customers, and hopefully more after reading this post. read more

There's not much i don't love about Kate's. The new salon is so beautiful and the stylists are amazing. Kate is always investing in her staff so they have the best training and are up on the trends. Love that they carry phrenology and surface products which are all natural and work amazingly. I get a massage a few times a year and always leave saying I should come more often! read more

Had to go here to get my hair done for a wedding... the girl that was doing must have just graduated from Cosmo. school she kept having to ask how to do stuff and when I told her it's not what I wanted someone else had to walk her through how to do it. Something I wouldn't mind from Cost Cutters or such but not from a salon like this... When I went to pay I was informed the tip was already included into my bill ( g thanks) it was around $10 my service was $60... I won't be going back but the Brides hair looked GREAT! read more

I called in advance letting them know. I was wanting shellac nail polish done. I swear I was told 40.00... which is what there web site also showed. When I arrive the girl was very nice. But I noticed she was not doing my manicure , like my previous girl would do. When I asked about this, I was told she was a beautician not a nail tech. So she was not allowed to do her manicure the same way. I did not think much about it. Until I went to pay my bill. $54.00 I was stunned. I had a very bad experience here (Kate and Co.) My friend and I had our nails done, and they turned out very poorly. Though the cosmologists were very friendly, they didn't seem experienced. My shellac is uneven and bumpy. The shellac I had on beforehand wasn't fully removed. Though I asked for a manicure, there was no work done on my cuticles. When I called to ask for a refund, I was told by the owner that there was a policy that they could not refund my money, and I could only come back to have the service redone. I'd already spent almost two hours getting the poor manicure, and didn't desire to spend more time in the salon to have it redone. Poor experience, poor service. read more
