I've always heard of a root canal as being the benchmark for terrible experiences. You know, "l'd rather have a root canal than do xyz." Well I saw Dr. Patmore today for a root canal procedure that my regular dentist couldn't do thanks to some complications. She put me at ease immediately. I could have fallen asleep had it not been for my phone going off constantly with work emails. Seriously, I've had more unpleasant haircuts. Went to see Dr Patmore today with an unscheduled visit for an emergency root canal. Needless to say my anxiety level was through the roof. I dont do well in a chair. Dr Patmore made me feel extremely comfortable ( well as close as I could be...lol). She assured me that I should not feel any pain and she was right. Dr Patmore says... "try to relax, your frowning and you dont want to have to get Botox....lol. Towards the end, I was so comfortable I actually started to fall asleep. I broke my wisdom tooth 3 years ago on a handful of almonds and was told I needed a root canal. I am the BIGGEST dental chicken especially if it involves needles, blood, and scary words like "root" and "canal". In two different attempts to get this fixed, I had successfully slipped out of the doctors' chair while they weren't watching. I avoided the entire thing for 3 years until 2 days ago when my face was on fire and my brain wanted to explode. I found Dr. Patmore through rave reviews and emailed her on a weekend (Sunday). She got back to me right away and had Kelsi, front desk queen, schedule me for the earliest slot today (Monday). I don't know how she did it, but I was in her chair at 10am and was done with the procedure at 11am. The entire thing was painless. I was so at ease. I couldn't hear, see, or feel anything. This had to be some kind of weird sorcery, but who cares. My tooth is fixed and I'm feeling amazing! I am no longer a dental chicken as of today. Dr. Patmore is a wonderful dentist. She was extremely kind to me. Her staff is great as well. She was incredibly patient with me while getting me numb. She is the only dentist that was able to fully numb me. Apparently I have a nerve in my jaw that is a bit higher up than in other people. My first root canal today. I remember my Dad having one long ago and being in terrible pain, which increased my initial anxiety. From the first moment of the initial consult, Dr Patmore was reassuring, providing an immediate sense of confidence in her abilities. The procedure was much quicker than I anticipated, quicker and less troublesome than some crown preps I have had, and honestly, totally pain free ! Even when the Novocain wore off 60 minutes later, no residual pain. She always discussed what was happening, reviewed the before and after x-rays with me, and made sure I was comfortable with every aspect of the procedures. I drove 100 miles to go to Santa Barbara because of Yelp reviews, and am glad I did. She also did not try to sell me on extra dental procedures, like bleaching, that I did not necessarily need. She is very conscious of her patients' well-being. Dr. Patmore was fabulous! My son, a SBCC student from Pennsylvania, developed a severe condition and needed an emergency root canal. He had tooth pain and was scheduled for the dentist but the condition worsened o ER the weekend and his lips and gums became swollen. Dr. Patmore was highly recommended from the dentist (it was too involved for the dentist) and returned our call/email on a day off, and agreed to meet him within an hour due to the severity of the condition. I was ready to fly out I was so nervous... She put our mind at ease so far away and took care of him that day! He had relief instantly, and she put his mind at rest, he was very nervous! I was advised by my dentist to go to a specialist for my root canal. I wasn't feeling comfortable with the specialist recommended by my dentist and I shared my story with friends and strangers, Dr. Patmore's name kept coming up. I watched her video on youtube and was amazed how much better my experience was in person. Dr. Patmore is a very kind and caring Doctor and did an excellent and professional job on my severe root canal. Her equipment made everything calm and less painful, no sharp needles being stabbed into my cheek numerous times. I was so relieved I chose her and would recommend her to anyone. The only flaw in my experience is due to my severe root damage I needed a stronger pain med for my post recovery, which took a while to organize. Dr. Patamore took care of two root canals for my husband and did a wonderful job. Since childhood has had a fear of the dentist and an issue being not numbing with novocaine.
