I live locally and need to get a pedicure. I went online to read the reviews for Kathy's nails, after all - we all deserve a third chance! I quit going to Kathy's years ago due to her son that does the pedicures. He does not do a good job, he yells in Vietnamese at his mother - and she allows it. This was quite possibly the best pedicure I have ever gotten!! I wish I could go daily for the leg & foot massage!! It didn't feel rushed at all. It was totally worth the money. This was one of our stops for a bachelorette party a few months ago, although Kathy was really nice, I think the lady doing my nails could not understand any english. I told her just to round the sides.. instead she gave me fully rounded nails (which I really really dislike). Also, the nails chipped within 3 days.. typically when I get my nails done at a salon they last for two weeks. The price wasn't horrible.. I think it was about $25 for the gel mani, I brought my own gel color as I like the color changing ones.. but overall I was disappointed that they didn't last. My daughter has been going to this salon for the last couple of years to get acrylic nails. We have always been happy with the service provided and tipped generously. Pre-pandemic the price was $45. Today, when I made a comment that $65 (current price) was quite a jump in price, and after I left the cash payment, they took my criticism out on my 14 year old daughter by proceeding to cutoff the nails that had just been applied. My daughter called me sobbing because she was so upset. Any business that isn't willing to explain a 40% increase in their price when questioned, should rethink their business practices. If they had a problem with my criticism, they could have discussed it with me when I picked my daughter up. Taking it out on her is not only unprofessional, but petty. I called Monday to make an appointment on that Saturday for 5 people. They only had 3 chairs but were happy to take us all. We just took turns. They were very kind and the massages were great. Kathy the owner does terrible pedicures. They've raised their pedicure prices to $40. Not worth it, they're usually running behind schedule. When (her name) does a nice pedicure, but forty dollars? I was staying at an RV Park in Chimacum near Port Townsend for the month of June and needed a hard gel polish change. The RV Park recommended Kathy's nails. I called two weeks ahead, explained what I needed, was told they don't carry the products my gal in NV uses BUT they would have no problem doing a hard gel polish change. I asked how much so I could be prepared and was told $20-$25 depending on what I needed; I told her I'd need them filed down. I had my appointment for a few days ago. When I got there, I told the gal that I was there for a hard gel polish change and that I wanted the polish and filing to be as close to what I had as possible. She looked at my nails and said "acrylics" and I said NO hard gels and repeated I was there for a hard gel polish change. I should have gone with my gut instinct (as well as my husband's who had to drop me off) and walked out! Keep in mind I'd only had the hard gels for about 3 months. The gal started off drilling off the old polish like my gal does and then used something different but being the stupid novice I am, I assumed it was a different type of gel. I asked her several times was this gel and she nodded yes. I was skeptical cause it didn't seem right--she wasn't use the "light" to let the gels set. Then when she was done, it was a bright pink and bright white (mine was a very pale pink and a totally off white) but I thought it would have to do until I got home in 3 weeks. Then she told me $60 and I about fell off the chair! I barely had $60 with me. That was another signal that something was wrong. My husband picked me up and when we got back to our motor home I did a search on the internet for the product she used. She KNOWINGLY despite my saying HARD GEL POLISH CHANGE, did a "pink and white full set of acrylics" on my nails. Needless to say, I am thoroughly upset. I called the salon and talked to the gal who did my nails (who was of Asian nationality and I had a hard time understanding her) and told her about my dilemma. She didn't seem to understand my frustration. I have since called and left a message for Kathy, who is the person I talked to in the beginning, to express my frustration and see if I had any recourse. I had to leave a message and, gee what a surprise, no call backs. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL AND FURTHERMORE, I'M GOING TO SUGGEST THAT THE RV PARK NOT RECOMMEND THEM EITHER. I came in for a gel manicure and Kathy did my nails. My first impression of her is that she tries to dress young for her age and doesn't act lady like. She's seems to be grumpy with an attitude. She has her teenage daughter helping her and as soon as I walk in they start speaking Tagolog and were laughing, which I find to be very rude. The gel started to chip after only a week. She uses old nail polish and only applies two coats of polish. There's not a big selection of nail colors. The prices are too expensive for a gel manicure. I will go out of town to Avalon Nails in poulsbo. They are less expensive and they do a awesome job. read more

I missed my regular scheduled appointment with my nail tech in Port Angeles. I was in Port Townsend, so I walked in to Kathy's Nail Salon. My hands burned that night after I had a fill at Kathy's , in two weeks the skin around my cuticles peeled, were red and inflamed. Today I had my scheduled appointment with my girl in Port Angeles, she had to replace 5 nails four of which where green with mold. I suspect that Kathy's uses an illegal nail acrylic which contains MMA. I would not advise anybody to go and I intend to report this to the state board. read more

At first, this was a big improvement over the other nail place in town. Now it is just no good. I will be getting my pedicures out-of-town now. They have raised their prices, and the owner's teenaged daughter is doing a lot of the work. The last couple times I went it, I made an appointment, as I was turned away do to a lack of one previously. Despite my appointment, I waited for 15 minutes for my pedicure. Daughter and I went in for mani/pedi. Daughter wanted gel on both finger and toe nails. They didn't light process toe nails, so it rubbed off in her socks on the way home. The wax job was horrid. She got wax in my hair and cut it out, also wax on my clothes. Have you had someone remove the wax slowly? It hurts so much more and Lilla didn't correct her procedure when asked. I'll never go here for that service again. So, I don't get my nails done that often, but I have had my fair share of acrylic nail sets (around 10-15 times in my life). This being said, I found Kathy's to a be a pretty nice little place. It's tucked around a corner, not far from the Port Townsend Food Co Op. It has 3-4 parking spots, and a tree over a spot that is marked for those who may need to leave their pet in the car. Inside there are a couple pedicure chairs, a little waiting area, and 3 manicure stations. They have 2-3 people on staff, and they seem to be quite busy all the time. I showed up on time for my appointment, and only waited maybe 5 minutes. The person who did my nails, which I think was probably the owner was a little standoffish, but I'm not one to talk much while getting my nails done anyways, so it didn't really bother me. The daughter of the owner, who was working the pedicure stations, was kind and talkative and included all the customers in the salon in the conversation which was pleasant. I chose to get black french tipped acrylics. The woman who did my nails worked steadily, and quickly and there didn't seem to be any problems until the end, when she was painting the top coat and realized the nails on my pointer and middle finger on my right hand had huge bubbles in the gel. She had to ground down the nail all the way to the plastic tip to fix it, which took quite a while. Luckily, she repaired the mistake and I'm ultimately happy with her work. One last thing, they don't take cards only cash or check, which wasn't displayed obviously enough so it was a little embarrassing when I gave her my card and she rejected it. Good thing my bank is just up the street, so it wasn't that big of a deal, but it would have been nice to know that before I even walked into the salon. All in all, a fairly good experience and I will probably be going back for my fill. read more

This rating not for the shop, as I have my 1st appt. ever on the 16th. This is for Diem, the new tech. I have had my mani/pedi done by Diem since 2012. I found her just after we moved to Bellingham. When we moved to Everett I drove 2 hrs. so I could keep going to Diem. She moved to Port Townsend and found this shop and let me know where she was. I am so happy, I can go to her again. I have tried two shops in my area but have not found anyone who does as good a job. I am very picky about my nails, very. I have never been disappointed with Diem's work.
