I have only been in here twice and the food was decent and a nice change to the usual food around here BUT the owner treats her employees HORRIBLY!! Again only been there twice and both times she's belittled the employees right in front of us!! She is also not very nice to her customers who try to explain things to her. It really is such a shame that a decent restaurant is tarnished by poor ownership. I did try to leave this ok fb only and was blocked by the owner which left me no choice but to post here. A small family owned businesses with fresh, homemade Italian dishes that are delicious. It's nice to go to a restaurant that offers gluten free as well so that our entire family can enjoy a meal together. My kids love the cheese tortellini and breadsticks. I ordered crispy chicken salad. The breading on the chicken was dark brown to black. I requested they cook another piece of chicken. It came out in almost the same condition. I was told that there was nothing wrong with my first piece and the second piece was the way they always make it. A very rude manager then charged me an extra $2.00 for the replacement piece. Dear Kathy's pasta, I offer you one more star than you earned. The only worse service I've had was an experience where literally three waiters stared at us in an empty restaurant for 45 minutes without taking our order. When we got there we were seated after about 5 minutes. There was a table with spilled food all underneath it (keep this in mind for later). When we were seated, we watched what would turn out to be our waitress apologize to the table next to us for forgetting their salads(keep this in mind for later). We sat for 20 minutes before I got up and went to get us a waitress. Our waitress took our order and apologized for the delay explaining she had only been a waitress for 9 days. She also told us how she had forgotten the next tables salads. 30 minutes later our food came out. She asked if we needed anything else - we asked if we could have our drinks. We reminded her of what our drinks were, and she went to grab them. We ate and finished up. 30 minutes later she brought our check out at which point she says 'Did I bring your salads?' We tell her no, but we're good now. She tells us this is the third time tonight she's forgotten salads and she spilled food everywhere earlier (remember that?). Every meal is supposed to come with salad and breadsticks. We got neither. The food was okay. My wife and I split tortellini and my daughter has chicken alfredo. The Alfredo tastes like store-bought sauce. No pepper no real standout flavor - it was creamy though! The chicken wasn't bad with a nice grilled flavor. A-OK is a pretty good descriptor for Kathy's Pasta. I was a little nervous to dine here for the holidays with some of my family members, but I ended up being fairly pleasantly surprised. Upon entry, my guard was up because Kathy's Pasta has the aesthetic value of a low-caliber Olive Garden. Over a sea of nondescript tables and past rows of jars of ornately pickled peppers that seem to be an unfortunate mainstay of Italian decor, I could see that the place was nearly empty. Cue more anxiety. The badly designed menu also featured a slew of non-Italian items, like burgers and nachos. Italian, eh?! Naturally, I became suspicious. However, everything returned to A-OKness after that point. Despite the decidedly not-authentic menu, I decided to shoot for their lasagna (which the menu boasted was an old family recipe) and a salad. When I asked for the house dressing for the latter, our painfully nice waitress said "Italian?" And I was worried she meant "You mean Kraft?" and that would be the end of it. But the dressing was actually probably my favorite part. It was a simple oil-based vinaigrette: light, bright, and definitely home-made. The salad greens were also crisp and fresh. Nice! I regained confidence after this. I wish there had been some cheese to make the salad a true winner. The lasagna was pretty good. It's definitely not much different than the lasagna my mom would have made, but it was a solid decision, and the half portion I ordered was the perfect size. I had some of my brother's garden pizza afterward, and while it also wasn't anything to rave about, the veggies were super fresh and the dough thin and crispy. We both wished there had been more sauce, though. Overall, if you find yourself locked in a situation in which you must eat in chain-happy Bolivar instead of heading back to SGF, Kathy's will probably not make you too sad inside. However, even its superior menu choices leave something to be desired. read more

The waitress was amazing, she was super sweet, on the other hand the OWNER has a real attitude that I believe should not be directed towards customers, as she could've went about the situation differently, I was using the restroom and while in there I got and exciting phone call from my friend, I have a naturally loud voice, she knocked on the door loud and hard, she then waited for me to get out of the restroom, scolded me as if she was my mother, she had a strong attitude and said my voice echoed through the restaurant and that I was cussing and it was bothering the customers, mind you me and my dad plus one couple was the only one in the restaurant, also they were on the other side of the restaurant as I was in the bathroom, due to her strong attitude towards me she lost 2 customers that day and I would not be returning, the food isn't even that good for her attitude, it's bland the chicken taste like zinc and made me nausea, I believe they use already cooked chicken instead of freshly making it themselves, over all her attitude and disgustful face the OWNER gave me, I will never ever recommend or return thanks to her read more

Not only did it take over an hour to get our food, but the food itself made me want to gag on sight. The waiters did not care about their customers at all. On top of that it was an easy 20$. No one at my table finished their food. This place either needs Gordon Ramsey to come save it or they need to close. Very clean restaurant and the servers are always nice. This place has been in town forever and has always provided good food. It is my wife's favorite place in town to eat. My kids love the endless breadsticks. My favorite items are the salad with ranch, breadsticks with ranch and chicken strips...with ranch. Went to Kathy's again last night. This is a favorite for our family and it was no surprise my oldest daughter picked it for her 16th birthday dinner. We made a reservation, they had our table ready and even had another adjacent table for us to put the gifts on. As usual, the staff is friendly and attentive, drinks and food orders were taken in timely fashion and the food arrived in a very respectable amount of time. The food was great and the staff kept our drinks full. When dinner was over they cleared the table for us and brought out the cake they were holding for me which I had dropped off earlier in the day with service to serve that too. All in all, another great experience. I have lived in this town for 17+ years and dined in this town for over 20 years, and this is the best place in Bolivar. Thought this was going to be a good alternative to the chains when looking for a good lunch spot in a pinch while passing through town, but I wasn't prepared for how expensive everything was. They offered what seemed like simple pasta dishes that didn't require any expensive ingredients or culinary expertise and were priced way too high. My wife and I were left thinking that if we had a pot of water, some dried pasta, canned tomato sauce, cheese and a propane Coleman stove, we could have cooked something of equal quality on the tailgate of our truck out in the parking lot. read more

Welcome to the restaurant that compelled me to download the Yelp app. Here is Kathy's, the only Italian restaurant in the small town of Bolivar- a hidden gem, maybe? One of those 'hole-in-the-wall' places you get lucky to find when you're on your way to the big city to do some shopping or visit family? Hahahahaha- no. If you deign to throw caution to the wind and choose to step inside, you may or may not be greeted by a hostess who may or may not seat you at a possibly clean table and then leave you to the waitress who may or may not give you the time of day while she looks down her nose at you. It's really a gamble when it comes to service. I've heard rumors that some people have received good service here- but that's not my experience, and I believe in maintaining a positive attitude toward food service employees because they work so hard for so little, so I can't imagine it instigated from my end first. When our waitress has decided to stop by the few times I've ventured in to 'dine,' she (different girl each time) has barely fallen short of rude. Now let's get to the food- or better yet not. If you're a fan of fresh ingredients, meals cooked to order, and full flavor (basically what people expect when they pay fifteen bucks for 3-minute angel hair at a sit-down restaurant) then you, my friend, are crap out of luck. The pasta is all pre-cooked to something barely short of mush (because I guess people don't want to wait the 3-7 minutes for fresh al dente- don't worry, they'll keep you waiting anyway) and don't you dare request freshly cooked al dente because *ahem* ain't nobody got time for that, especially at 2:45 in the afternoon when they are absolutely SLAMMED with one car in the lot. But if you do like mushy paste and bland sauces, and just don't live near enough to a retirement home to stop by for what they've prepared, come on down to Kathy's, your classic kitchen nightmare. Food was ok not seasoned as you would expect in an Italian place, not enough garlic. Husband had chicken Alfredo. He said it was kind of bland but edible. I had chicken parmesan worth vegetables. My chicken coating was over cooked almost burnt. Had WAY to much cheese and marinara on it, was hard to get to the chicken. My broccoli was over steamed and a bit squishy but edible. The bread sticks tasted good but we're considered garlic bread but didn't taste like garlic. Wouldn't highly recommend the place but if your into pasta is ok. read more

I enjoy their food very much, but it's just a bit pricy for Bolivar, hence the three stars. I'd rather give it 3.5, but that's not an option. If you do end up going, the Bruce pizza is great. Great food and great service. I love the create your own pasta dish and the sampler. The lasagna is better than olive gardens and quite filling. It has a great ambience and the last time I went our server held our fussing baby while my wife and I ate! After our meal, just before we left, my 8 year old son asked our server where they make the food. So she took me, my son, and my toddler on a tour of the back of house so they could see how the food was made. What I would say if asked about the staff at Kathy's is that they go above and beyond to keep the customers happy. read more

Worst dining experience I've ever had. Let's start with the owner herself, Kathy. She was extremely rude to her employees and everyone in my party. The credit card machine was having problems and charged my card four times. I was immediately notified by my Wellsfargo app, so I showed her my bank statement right away with the charges but she refused to reimburse me until she had "actual proof." She made me wait until the very long line died down before she would even talk to me. Granted I had already waited in the fifteen minute line to pay. After I waited AGAIN, she still refused to reimburse me. She made me come back the following day, where I waited another 45 minutes, and never ended up getting reimbursed, because she couldn't get a hold of her bank. She did not apologize once. But that was only the end of a terrible dining experience. In the beginning, we waited 30 minutes to even get our drinks and place our orders. It took another hour to get our appetizers, and the food followed immediately after the appetizers were delivered. Not all the food came though, two of my party guests left without eating because theirs never came. I will say, the food itself tasted great! For Bolivar, MO it's a good place. You can get wine or beer with your meal here unlike most other places in town. Food is ok. I think the pastas are a little over done. I like them firmer.
