It seems as though I had Heidenpeters built up far too much in my head before finally making my way…read morethere, because it wasn't as mindblowingly awesome as I had hoped.
For one, there was only a pale ale on tap, when I was hoping for more variety. The taste was very pale ale-y, with a hoppier edge, but it wasn't necessarily stand-out or distinctive. I mean, I love my American microbrews and was hoping his would be a bit more distinct in flavor than the standard pilsner beers regularly available here.
Additionally, the service was slooowwwww. I guess that's what you get for visiting on a night like Street Food Thursday, so I can't complain too much, but even so, my wait for food was shorter than this. Also, the fact that I had to stand in line for five minutes to return my glass for Pfand was kind of frustrating, but that's just part of the deal, I suppose.
Of course, this review is not the be-all end-all, and I am looking forward to returning, perhaps on a Friday, when the atmosphere is more relaxed and hopefully there are a couple choices on tap. I would really like to give Heidenpeters a four or five-star review, so here's hoping that my first experience was just a fluke.
