Saskatoon's Filipino community is one of the city's fastest-growing and most culturally active demographics, representing a significant portion of the 44,000+ Filipinos living across Saskatchewan. Knowing this fact, there should be many Filipino restaurants here. Our search led us to Katmu Family Restaurant. What's distinctive of this restaurant is food are freshly cooked upon order unlike most "turo-turo" style, a traditional, fast-casual Filipino dining setup where you point at the food you want to eat from a selection of pre-made foods. We had the Salmon Sinigang, Sizzling Sisig and Pancit Overload. All were very yummy. Served is very attentive and answered most of our questions about the menu. Space is clean. From their limited event menu, I got an order of pancit guisados and one BBQ beef skewer which seemed a reasonably priced meal for $13 CAD. The pancit noodles were delicious and filling, while the BBQ skewer had a nice char and looked like it used BBQ short rib. There are actually a good number of Filipino restaurants in Saskatoon and my experience made me interested in trying more of their offerings.

This is a wonderful little town that punches above its weight. The meal I had here may have been the best I've had in 2023 (or at least tied with the one I had in Marfa, Texas). From the scallions to the pasta to the fish to the pudding like dessert paired with a sweet wine, each course complemented the next. The folks here were all so nice and I trusted them to surprise me with each aspect of the meal. I love it when I can hand that decision to experts. In such a short time, I've come to love Saskatoon. I love how in the middle of the restaurant they have their pop fountain station for customers to get their own drinks.
