Smack in the middle of the 2014 holiday rush, I came in with what most would consider a hare-brained project. Of course, I had to have the finished product ASAP. The proprietor, Katherine, was a good sport about what I was looking to have constructed. After some useful feed back as I explained my grand vision, she improved upon the idea and moved forward with my instant gratification rush job. The finished product proved even more magnificent than I had originally envisioned. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that I had made a small, but fatal mistake when calculating the dimensions. I need to be clear on this point, this was my error. When I phoned Katherine with the dismal news, she may have cried. In the end, the only remedy was to rebuild using the corrected dimensions. Version 2.0 turned out just as beautifully as did the first. Bottom line, Katherine does high quality, detail oriented work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her services as I will no doubt stop by the next time I am in need of her expert skills. read more

I brought in an old reverse on glass advertising sign to Kat that needed a frame. Within just a few minutes, Kat showed me several frames that I could choose from that enhanced the sign's character. The sign had some areas on the back where the paint had come off and Kat suggested that they could fill in the missing areas with paint and add some black poster paper that would smooth out the black background on the back of the old sign. Kat said that it would take a few weeks, but texted me the very next day and said my advertising sign was ready to be picked up! The framed sign was truly outstanding and it was more attractive than I anticipated. Kat even made me a templet that showed the anchor points for hanging my sign. Kat is well versed in her artistic creativeness, attention to detail and timeliness in making your art work the best it can be! I am now looking for more artwork for her to spruce up. When I was much younger, my wife and I did our own framing: select and cut the frame, mat, and glass, add backing, and attach the hanging wire. Once you have seen an Alpha Kat frame, you will give up trying to match Kat's master works. I gave Kat the only photograph of my mother and her brother taken on August 27, 1936. She selected a hand-made Italian frame, added a core-solid mat (color goes all the way through so it doesn't show white when cut), added a hand penned border, and used museum quality glass (you can hardly see the glass). It is a work of art! If my mother and uncle were still with us, they would be very pleased. I'm trying to think of a better word than fabulous or awesome. . .I guess they will have to do. read more

Like many of the other comments, I was afraid a privately-owned shop in Olmos Park would be very expensive, but I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Kat has very competitive prices, all while providing the best framing quality available. Kat took the time to help me choose the perfect frame and inlay for my over-sized painting, and she didn't charge me for stretching the canvas! I have had several watercolors and prints framed by Kat, and her work is so good I practically go looking for art just so she can frame it! Every single piece she has done has looked many times more fabulous because of her expertise. Her philosophy is to let the art speak for itself and not to overwhelm it with the frame. Not only that, but the frames actually enhance the art. Paintings that I thought were so-so turned out to be gorgeous in their new frames. I can honestly say that framing is a big part of the art as it hangs. Katherine "Kat" Tafolla (Alphah Kat Frame Shop) is the most talented person I know to match the frame to the art - she is an artist herself. I've had 5 items framed by Kat (paintings, posters, embroidery) in the past 3 years and have been very happy with all of it.
