What bed wouldn't be more inspirational with a fashionable Johnny Was bedspread?! Johnny Was has a lot of Asian inspired prints and embroidered kinds of stuff, with wild flowers, birds and various scenes on things like blouses and nightgowns. Their selection is all vibrant, colorful and different. The staff was helpful and attentive. We had some questions on things, and they offered candies while they helped us check out the inventory in a little booklet they had, which made things easier than hauling everything out one at a time. I can't attest to the prices here, since I don't regularly shop at these kinds of stores, so, meh. This shop is located within La Cantera. Parking can be a bit challenging, but it's next to Nordstroms.

I'm so confident in my masculinity that I've visited a frou-frou ladies clothing store on multiple occasions and bought scarves, blouses, and purses for my mother. I know next to nothing about clothing, but I know what my mom likes: bright, flowy, intricate, Southern California-inspired apparel brimming with personality. That's why I skip the impersonal department stores and head straight to Johnny Was. Over the past several years, I've bought two pairs of shoes, a purse, a makeup bag, two jackets, two kimonos, ten blouses, and three scarves. Yes, I counted. Prices range from $75 (a makeup bag) to $1,800 (an elaborate, embroidered blouse), but the cost reflects the quality; the artisanship and attention to detail are second to none. The sales associates are friendly and personable, never pushy. I know my mom's style fairly well, but the employees have steered me towards items I hadn't even considered, including several gorgeous scarves to complement the blouses. The staff could take advantage of my diffidence with all things apparel (in a clothing store, I look like a mute foreigner stumbling around with an open wallet), but they never try to upsell me. My only quibble is with the store's name. Johnny Was? Johnny was what? Apparently, the store's founder took the name from an obscure Bob Marley song. How random. I should open a clothing store named after a Captain Beefheart song. I can hear the ladies now: "Ooooh, what a gorgeous tunic, Liz! Where did you get it?" "It was 30% off at Making Love to a Vampire with a Monkey on My Knee."

My experience with Edie has been nothing short of incredible!…read moreThis review is long overdue (we worked together in April 2025), but I have struggled to find the right words to express what a life changing time it was. I have lost more than 100 pounds over the last two years. I have never, in all of my 54 years, been a "normal" or "straight" size. As a result, I had absolutely no idea how to shop, what to look for, what fit, what looked good for my body type, etc. Before reaching out to Edie I had gotten rid of all the work clothes that I knew were way too big. I was literally left with five tops, three pants, and a skirt. I was so nervous as I have no real sense of fashion and was stepping way outside of my comfort zone. Our consultation was fabulous. She put me at ease, didn't oversell the more expensive packages, and seemed so excited to work with me. I was still nervous, mostly because I didn't know what to expect and had saved the money over time - certainly didn't want it to be a bust. First was a visit to my house to check out my closet. I tried everything on, we talked about what I liked and didn't like. I had a few hand-me-downs from friends that I had not tried yet. When she recommended getting rid of something, if I hesitated at all, she didn't push. I didn't feel like I was forced on anything. We ended up picking four of the hand-me-down pants and one of my old blouses to get altered. And left me with just enough to get through a week of work before our shopping spree. Before shopping, Edie asked me to make a Pinterest board with looks I like. Even this made me nervous as I had no idea if looks I like would work on me. But I did it. I met Edie and her assistant Chloe at Dillards. They had gotten there before me and pulled a rack full of items. For hours I tried on clothes, got different sizes and colors and tried those on. Loved some things, hated others. But there was no judgement, no hurt feelings. To give you an idea of how clueless I was, I told them I wore a size 8 pant. Most of the bottoms I purchased were size 4! Once we worked through the rack, all of the items that passed the first round were placed on a rack and then I went through with my budget in mind and picked what to buy. Edie and Chloe coached me on what was easily interchangeable to work with multiple outfits. Then the third visit, they came back to style me! I didn't (still don't) really have many accessories, but they took what I had with shoes I had, and made I think 40 outfits! And photographed each one and shared them with me. I've turned them into a searchable PDF that is on my phone. I open it up each night and scroll through to decide what to wear to work the next day. She checks in on me. When I realized I needed a belt, Edie sent some good options. I can go on and on...but to wrap up, I'm excited to get dressed in the morning. I feel confident and put together. When people complement me on my clothes or outfit, I accept it graciously and don't cower. I am better at shopping because I know what fits well and what doesn't and what will be "flexible" wardrobe wise. That said, with the seasons changing, I wish I could do another spree! Don't hesitate to reach out to Edie! She is talented, approachable, kind, fun, and incredibly good at what she does!

From the moment she walked into my closet, it was clear she has a passion for organizing and a flair for fashion. Not only did she declutter and reorganize my closet, but she created the cutest outfits from the clothes I already had. She put together different colors, patterns, and accessories, elevating my style game to a whole new level. She spent time learning my personal taste and lifestyle to ensure that each outfit worked for me, and also gave me useful tips on how to mix and match my pieces in the future. And we had a lot of fun in the process!

There is also an order window (The Backyard) with a full bar. It's a great open space, that's fenced in, to hangout. Great for kids as well. There is plenty of space to play and even swings for adults and some games like giant connect 4, and giant Jenga. There are picnic tables with umbrellas and some misters. Today was a stifling day and there just didn't seem to be enough shade. Only about 3 tables had full shade and they were already full. I recommend they get more shade coverage. Whenever they have a busy night, I imagine you may need to bring your own lawn chairs. They were building a stage, I assume for music, so that's neat. They did have loud music playing anything from classic rock to country which was a nice mix. I love the concept of reusing an unused space and the openness. They just need their draft beers fixed (maybe add more craft), more shade, and open the food trucks the whole time (they closed 3-5p when we were there). But I like it! Unique for Seguin.
