Their rate is not terribly low but I figured it would work out considering that they might get me a better refund than, say, HR Block. They offered the rate plus an hourly for their individual preparation, and I agreed. After entering my documents, my agent learned about my small LLC started during the previous tax year, and requested the relevant documents to file the taxes for it. Great! It is a tiny business- it seems my agent is going to throw this in to maximize the return. 2.5 weeks later, after an update request, someone else from the company sends me a message informing me of an added $750 plus hourly (!!!) for the LLC filing. It had been 7 weeks of their collecting documents altogether, with no other information provided about my status/return. I told them this was unacceptable and that in order to continue they would need to wave the fee or offer a discount. They offered $200 off what would be an extra $1200 or so. I'm throwing them a 2 star for at least acknowledging a mistake and offering a partial refund. This is probably too generous considering I'm paying them $230 in hourly fees for absolutely nothing but stress. Went to HR block and got a nice return for maybe a quarter of the price.

I had a lot of trouble dealing with one of the firm's accountants, who I will not name. The accountant was difficult to schedule and often unresponsive to emails. When we met in person, he had very cryptic answers to straightforward accounting questions. He would consistently fail to make corrections to returns, requiring multiple reviews of returns that were in the 15-20 page range. In one case, he made some incorrect determinations on state nexus that lead to a very late filing, and in another case, he didn't advise us of an urgent deadline on a special form. Fast forward a bit, and the IRS hit us with a $10k penalty assessment because of that one late form, and the accountant was completely nonchalant about it. I complained on their website, and the accountant's business partner was responsive and brother acknowledged that the accountant had a history of customer service related issues, and he promised smoother sailing going forward. However, even after this, nothing changed; the accountant repeatedly still failed to look at emails and failed to address key questions. If you are a sole proprietor who sells on eBay and Etsy, I'm sure that Lanyap can handle your Schedule C. However, if you run a C corp officer, it was a total waste of time and money; run away until they change personnel.
