Just got back from the BBQ Godfather route. It was awesome! Arlin was a great guide and very knowledgeable about our stops and the city. She provided history on all the places we stopped at as well as the pit masters and how they came to be. You can also add on the bbq museum to your tour which is a fun stop where you can also learn more about bbq and the different regions in the country. This was an amazing experience! I was a little nervous about the price but it really was worth it. We stopped in at four restaurants and a sauce bottling company. Arthur Bryant Hawg Jaw Danny Edwards Spicin Foods Bottling Gates Our tour guide was Arlin and driver was Barry. They really made the tour extra special. We brought our four year old along with us a lap child. I did not expect them to give him any food but they gave him a mini plate at every stop. I was so grateful. I think my favorite part was driving past all the historical sites and getting some of that Kansas City history. Only thing I wish they added was ice cream at the end of the tour . In terms of spice, the BBQ is not spicy to me unless you use a spicy sauce. Everything is dry rub and you add whatever sauce you want. So if you don't like sauce (like my husband) you will still love this tour. Highly highly recommend!! Final note: bring some cash to tip these hard working folk! read more

Very fun tour! Arleen is very non PC. (That's politically correct). And it's hilarious. I love all her unconventional jokes and attitude lol so be prepared. Did the tour that had the beer so we went to three places and had a nice driving tour of KC. I live in the area and still enjoyed the drive around and history of each bbq place and facts about KC that I didn't know. Also have some good digestion time between restaurants so you're never feeling like you're gonna puke because you ate so much lol. Everything is nicely set up for you and there's plenty of food to go around. Everything tasted great, wasn't expecting anything less to be honest. Was really fun overall! read more

My 100th review, so had to make sure it was a good one! And this was a true 5 Star Experience. We were in Kansas City at the end of November (Thanksgiving Weekend), a group of 8 of us that had flown in from all over Canada (and one from Detroit) to see our beloved Buffalo Bills upset the Kansas City Chiefs. As we were in for a few days we wanted to experience true KC BBQ, and my buddy Jay found this tour online. And what a find it was. Bottom line, if you are visiting KC like we were and enjoy BBQ and fun... DO THIS TOUR. The driver Barry and host Arlene were fantastic and lights out at their jobs. They made the day all that much better. I'll get to the food in a bit, but I wanted to note that this tour is more than just eating. You get a great tour of Kansas City, seeing many different area's of the city and landmarks you may not have known existed. Arlene was fantastic in sharing some of Kansas City's history with us. You will learn a lot on this tour, both about the food you will consume and the city these folks call home. A lot of history here. And the food. As stated many, many times here DO NOT EAT before you come on this tour. A lot of us guys are big eaters, and everyone was so stuffed by the last stop. There is a ton of great food, so pace yourself and enjoy. There is zero chance you are hungry at days end. We hit four Kansas City BBQ restaurants: two classics (Arthur Bryants BBQ and Gates BBQ, first and last stop respectively), an out of the way hole-in-the-wall that is a locals favorite (LC's BBQ... my personal fave on the tour... those burnt ends were ridiculous) and a "new school" fancier, more high end BBQ joint called Jack Stacks (damn that cornbread was AMAZING). All four were incredible and served a sampling of both BBQ items and side dishes they are noted for. I couldn't imagine how much doing all of this on your own would cost, their all in price for this tour is the bargain of the century. As an added bonus we stopped at Original Juan, a factory in KC that makes various hot sauces (you've seen them on grocery store shelves before, trust me). They have a challenge there to try the hottest sauce in the world (we verified this), "The Source", a 7.1 million scoville units hot sauce. My buddy Jay and I went for it, as did one other gent on the tour. May I add we were egged on to try by our bus driver Barry, who joined us in the pain. You sign a waiver, consume a drop on a toothpick, and suffer for the next half hour. Jay literally couldn't stop crying. I couldn't feel my teeth. Seriously. This is a must. As I said you won' eat for a long time after this trip, you will be that full so prepare accordingly. Skip breakfast and don't make dinner reservations. Oh and two other things, tip Barry and Arlene well, they are gems. And as full as you are, after your last stop at Gates BBQ, buy a Yammy Yam Pie. My god it's good, and whats one more mini pie? You are already gonna feel like you weigh 900 lb's so make this the cherry on top! read more

We ventured to KC to celebrate a 30th birthday and saw that this was on the top things to do. We love BBQ so we were sold. Arlene (tour guide) and Barry (driver) were SO great - knowledgeable and hilarious! We took the Cue and Brew tour which stopped at 3 different places and included a beer at each place along with the food and ability to bring beers on the bus. Stopped at Arthur Bryant's, LC's Bar-B-Q and Gates. The food did not disappoint and OMG, there was so much. We had everything from ribs to burnt end to brisket so a nice variety in meats and sides. Also able to try local craft brews. We were all in a delicious food coma by the end. During "digestion" time between the second and third stops, they took us a on a tour through the city highlighting various areas, monuments and buildings. Nice way to learn about the history of KC as well as recommendations for places to check out while we were in town. Definitely a must to check out while you're in KC! read more

They are friendly, passionate and knowledgable about KC history, BBQ lore and local eats. Do not eat breakfast before the tour. You will be tasting at plenty of stops along the way. You can always hit up Karl, the owner and operator for a detailed list of the places you will be going on the 4-hour tour, in order to best plan your trip. We hit up OK Joe's and Jack Stack's ourselves in the days before and following the tour. Food, transportation and restaurant gratuities are included in your ticket costs. There is plenty of 'que to go around and water is served at every stop. We also hit up Original Juan's, a bottling and distribution company for BBQ sauces, hot sauces and salsas. We ordered a slew of stuff for friends and family and had it shipped back home at a discounted price. It is entirely worth the price of admission to take the tour, so do not hesitate to jump aboard. My husband and I did the riblet tour and Bethany was our tour guide. We went to Arthur Bryants and LC bbq cafes as part of the tour and they also drive you around key locations in the city to explain its history which was great for us as we had only arrived in the city the previous night. The Original Tour goes to 4 restaurants but I found there was plenty of food on the riblet tour and couldn't have eaten any more. A must do for anyone visiting Kansas City. Barry and Arlene, our driver and tour guide, have this down perfectly. Stopped at 4 popular BBQ spots, plus an extra stop at Spicin foods, a sauce manufacturer and distributor for some sauce samples. Each of the restaurants had their own specialty and the tour was perfectly planned so that we each got fed (a lot!) at each place, with the food ready as soon as we got there. Arlene explained the origins of each place, and also some Kansas City history and info as the bus toured around the city. We loved the ribs and sausage at Arthur Bryants and burnt ends at Hawg Jaw the best. If you're into spicy foods, you can try a dab of the 7 million scoville hot sauce at Spicins - but you have to sign a waiver first. Take this tour - totally worth the cost. But seriously, do not eat anything before you go - you will be very full and satisfied after. read more

Disclaimer: We were a bunch of KC locals so probably a different experience than most reviewers. We had a great time and everything was organized great. Our organizer said it was a little tricky to find stops that weren't the usual tourist places we've all been to. If you need any accommodating (ex. non-red meat eater), be sure to mention it before hand. We made that mistake it wasn't well received. Pretty standard beers but the food and portions were awesome. As our time in the KC area (Fort Leavenworth) comes to an end, we wanted to do something worthwhile - KC BBQ Tour. This tour provided not just an amazing, delicious tour of the main joints that made KC the BBQ capital, but a partial tour of KC as we made our way from one location to the next.
