The service at KC is always great. I went KC at Christmas a couple of times and the Chinese food was great, very flavourful. Granted, I only had one dish, but I had it twice. I went there recently and had the "one" dish and a couple other Chinese dishes. The food wasn't as flavorful as the Christmas visit. In Nelson, KC is an unusual restaurant that specializes in Chinese, Thai and Japanese cuisine. Originally a mostly Chinese restaurant, the owners brought in thai and japanese chefs to diversify the menu and offer something new to the clientele of this particularly health conscious and trend conscious town. Over the years, the chefs came and went, but the recipes were recreated, tweaked and in many ways improved to the point that the resto has proven to be more popular at these styles than even the dedicated thai and japanese restos in Nelson. With that in mind, my family and I came in to try out the alternate menus as opposed to the chinese food (which I understand to be primarily cantonese with some szechuan dishes). First came the sushi, a good mix of maki rolls that exemplified the nature of the Nelson clientele. The ever popular California rolls were quite decent, as well as the tuna rolls. But the Veggie Delight comprised of tempura carrots and avocado, drizzled with wasibi mayo was surprisingly quite tasty. The Omega-3 roll, comprised of Avocado, Asparagus, Salmon with Brown Rice sprinkled with flax seed was a revelation that it was possible to have a supremely healthy roll without sacrificing taste. Next came the Pad Thai noodles, Yellow curry with chicken, and vegetarian spring rolls. The spring rolls were decent, complete with a slightly oversweet sauce as opposed to a more traditional fish sauce. The yellow curry with chicken was good, with the curry flavour being a little subdued, but still filled with tender chunks of chicken breast. Unlike normal incarnations of yellow curry dishes, there are some chunks of potato which added a bit of texture to the dish, and it all mixed well with the steamed white rice. The Pad Thai noodles were quite good, though a bit different than the usual Pad Thai I would find in Calgary or Montreal. Using a thicker rice noodle, it could use a bit of fish sauce to give it a bit of an extra bite, and was a little too subtle in flavour. But to be fair, my family had asked it to NOT be very hot for some odd reason (considering that all of us were used to hot dishes). Also, it could use a little bit of chopped scrambled egg to add a little more texture. Still, I enjoyed the dish and it was nicely done. The decor is basic yet functionaly, with a traditional sushi bar in the front. Tables of various sizes are available that can accomodate groups of 2 to as many as 10 throughout the place, and it's definately a popular place judging from how busy it was when I left. On other review sites, the KC has received ratings in the 4 to 5 star range, or in the 90%+ in terms of customer popularity as it's well earned. Speaking with the owner about how important he thought it was to have quality standards maintained, such as in the sushi rice that he insists must be made fresh every day (no leftover rice at the end of the day), its no wonder why the KC is so well regarded indeed. read more

Good food and the delivery was probably 10-15 minutes early at least, but the portions seemed pretty small for the amount we spent on it. I usually find Chinese places to have quite large portions, but I ordered one of the combo meals and got maybe half of what I was expecting. Still enjoyed what I got though, and the person on the phone was quite nice. read more

This resturant serves Japanese, Thai and Chinese food. The sushi is awesome, the pad Thai is amazing and the Chinese food is great. The resturant atmosphere is relaxing and clean. The Chinese menu could be better but it's still not bad. read more

So we were looking for a place to have lunch and found it. The food is fresh and not covered in a bunch of sauce to make it taste better. The flavour is in the ingredients and they are generous. Seafood Chow Mein was very delicious. If you want to ruin any chow mein just toss a bunch of sauce to hide the real flavour. The fried rice is fresh. Each and every portion is made fresh so patience is a must, but worth it. The friendly abuse from the waitress staff is great and let me emphasize friendly. Food is overrated and greasy. Even worse is how they bring in unique chefs styled for different food then they toss the chefs and keep those recipes they brought with them on the menu. The recipes would suddenly taste worse because their creators had been kicked after being used. Sharks. I refuse to eat here! Ordered for delivery, Amandas was closed for once. Found everything to be really quite tasty, the fried foods were a little soggy but I suppose that's what ya get for take out, the overall flavors made up for it in general. Won't be going back to Amandas, like ever. read more

Disgusting. The tabels and chairs are ancient and horribly lopsided, everything was so wobbly! For food I had miso soup, It was cold and had no tofu in it. Then had some chicken chow mein and sweet and sour boneless chicken and pork. Nothing had any flavor. The chow mein was horribly overcooked and bland. The chicken had an odd taste, like it had gone bad weeks ago. By far the worst "Chinese" food I've ever had. Couldn't finish more than 2-3 bites, still made me pay for it. yikes. Avoid. read more

Bad food, worse service and omg what's with the old rice from last week? Waitress is rude when I asked for chopsticks, water and the menu. Food is slightly above KFC and a&w but not by much.
