My ears are so happy now! Today I was so sad because my old favorite station, 92.3 turned into Asian pop instead of alternative. BUT then I learned that they had moved back to 104.9! The music is always great. They have the best alternative music and really good DJ's. They play a great mix of new music and older music. They also play songs that no other station will play because they are not singles. But the DJ's have a great ear and know what their listeners will like. There are also very few commercials which is a definite plus! If you like alternative then you'll love this station! read more

It's a shame that Channel 104.9 doesn't come in strong in San Francisco. This station has somehow been able to recapture the magic of radio's strongest era, the 90's. Not too many commercials, the DJ's don't say much and when they do talk it's substantive, they don't play out their music, they play random songs (a real rarity these days), they have huge variety in music, and the music director has taste. It's a shame that Live 105.3 has fallen to the state their in. It's unlistenable now. Channel 104.9 is a solid station, I hope they stay around and thrive. read more

Whoa - Just heard on Channel 1049 that they're moving to a new signal next week. Looks like they're taking over 92.3. Isn't that the old KSJO signal from back in the day? If I remember correctly, that signal reaches up to SF and the East Bay. So awesome - more Channel 1049 love on my commute. :) read more

i kind of discovered this radio station by accident flipping through the dial--i'm a relative newcomer to the bay area so i didn't know it used to exist, but i'm so glad i found it! the genre of music it plays (sometimes even down to the exact songs) reminds me of KROQ in LA back from my high school days. ahh, the memories. finally something that's not as mainstream as alice but not as rock-y as live 105. i really like their playlist--good combination of old alt, new alt, and classic alt. thumbs up! read more

Not the same old 104.9 as before. =( All the oldie radio djs are gone (like Kat)... but their music is almost the same (alternative rock). But you broke my heart when you disappeared a year or two ago, sorry but I've moved on to LIVE 105. I've won gift certificates, cds, and tickets to see Smile Empty Soul from you guys... which I was super lucky! Compare to calling other station I've never gotten through... Just coming over to 104.9 after 20+ years with 105. 105 dumped my fave morning show the woody show - so 105 can suck it! Streamin 104.9 in the morning as my first day as a listener. So far so good :) Update: After about a week, Liking the "What the?" songs. When they played Funky Cold Medina I was like What the ?.... DJs are a little dull but the song variety is good. read more

As my review of 103.3 KSCU clearly relates (http://www.yelp.com/biz/-bl21Nx3oyPG7_a2zmPcxw?hrid=RjQDHtpAxgPq-wwIiNXYCA), I am not a fan of commercial radio. However, there's almost always a caveat, isn't there?! Channel 104.9 and Live 105 have always (read: since I moved to the Bay Area from Santa Cruz in 2001ish) been my radio station refuges from the drek of pop and hiphop stations in the area. When I don't like the show on KSCU, my go to's are Live 105, Channel 104.9 and KQED. When 104.9 went Spanish, I feared all alt-rock stations would disappear from my dial! What a relief that it's returned! I don't mind the playlist adjustment Puchu.. referred to (though I don't detect it, more 80s maybe?). I'm just glad that I was finally able to restore a modicum of stability to my universe by re-programming channel 5 on my car stereo for 104.9. I was never able to find a suitable station to replace that program button, and I hadn't felt at ease in my car until all was finally set right! read more
