The staff are really friendly too - if i worked in a fancy hotel the last thing I'd want to have to do would be to wait on a load of students having their end of year balls, but if the staff here thought that they did an excellent job of hiding it. The other thing that struck me was how nice the food was, considering they were catering for a huge number of people the attention to detail and consistency in the quality of all 3 courses was commented on by several people at our table. The drinks prices at the cash bar were a bit excessive though, although I suppose it's only to be expected oin a nice hotel. And I guess you do have to treat yourself every once in a while! It may not have the same reputation as The Balmoral, but I'd say this place is batter hands down.

The people at the reception area are very polite and not in a snotty way. It is just their lifestyle and I think its rather cool how they speak and treat people. I would come down for breakfast with my jogging sweats and bad hair, and I was treated just as well and courteous as people with suits. THe place overall looks well kept and it is in a good location as well. I like the workout facilities and sauna too. Plus they had the lobby well decorated for Christmas. Yeah the music during breakfast was a bit out of place but no one is perfect. Just want to also mention they do have wi-fi and is fast. And the bathroom had this mirror that lights up and can magnify every cell (or just wrinkle) on your face if you have any. For a backpack traveler like me I found it fun to poke around with it.

The mini bar was free and yes they did restock all of the alcohol and non alcoholic items. My only complaint about the room is the bathroom. It was quite small and couldve been cleaner. The shower also had a half door which let out tons of water causing the bathroom floor to get soaked. Sure it looked nice, but not very functional. The room we stayed in didn't get too much sound from the street, but I do hear some chatter in the middle of the night, likely from people coming out of the dome. Since we booked using chase sapphire reserve's the edit, we got daily breakfast for 2, $100 dining credit, a welcome amenity, and early check in/late check out (we got 2pm late check out). The breakfast was fine. It included a buffet and an item off their menu (eggs Benedict, omelette, etc.). We spent the dining credit at the Le petit beef bar. The food was excellent - great steak and frites as well as croque sando with their signature sauce (herby and buttery). Highly recommend especially if it's your first time in Edinburgh and want to explore all the top spots.

Probably one of the negatives of staying in a building with an older facade.

One other notable thing was the selection of cookies, tea and coffee in the room. Very welcome after a long day of sightseeing. They are very close to the Wallace Monument and then off to Stirling Castle.

This was all fed back to staff but unfortunately got no response. The saving grace was the fact the bar and restaurant area is clearly a new addition or had recently been revamped. My food was pretty good and there was a decent choice on the menu.

I tend to be a toast or pastry guy for breakfast, so I didn't order anything special. They have a bar/lounge that I didn't get a chance to try as it's just a sitting room and closes early. Ten PM I think. My room was nice enough. The plumbing was easy to figure out (not a given in the UK, if you're a first time visitor). I didn't break my neck getting into the shower, and I didn't electrocute myself. So that's a solid star right there. When I arrived, I took an Uber. He went the wrong way around. But after that, I walked to Waverly Station, Hay Market, the castle, etc. If you're willing and able to walk a mile on pretty flat pavement, it's accessible to everywhere. There was a dragon on the stairwell nice enough to post. Overall, very nice. Good value. I'd stay here again.

From the moment you pull open the large front door- you will feel that you must be staying at a posh friend's home. The front desk staff is personable and friendly and for this tired traveler who arrived at 10am in the morning- I was thrilled that they had acknowledged my early check in request which meant my room was ready and I could grab a couple of hours of sleep before heading out to take a look around. Now while all rooms are not as opulent as the suite I had, they are also nicely appointed. My suite had a bedroom that overlooked the park, there was an attached private sitting room and large bath with a footed tub and shower complete with body sprays. The 15 foot ceilings soared above me and allowed for a magnificent canopied bed to be the centerpiece of the room. The bed was a dream to sleep in . . .thick duvet, with personal robes and slippers and even a throw if you wanted to sit on the couch and read. There was even a full sized ironing board, iron and a very good hair dryer. Internet access if free but you will have to ask for a code at the front desk. Breakfast is included in your room rate each day. You have a choice of a buffet or hot breakfast and the food and service is quite good. There is also a small bar area off of the lounge which is open for afternoon tea or a glass of wine before bed. But since they are so accommodating- my favorite place to sit was in the main lobby by the windows sipping a glass of wine and sharing a dessert. The staff is happy to help you no matter where you sit. The Bonham is within walking distance of all of the sights of Edinburgh and since it is in the New Town, also has many restaurants around it that are not full of tourists but good places to meet and hang out with the locals. And it's only about 20 minutes from the airport. If you are going to be in Edinburgh for business or pleasure- check out The Bonham. It was a delight to stay here!
