They are all very knowledgeable about the area and have some amazing stories to tell! The walls of the pub itself also tell a story, with lots of personal photos and trinkets collected over the years by the family. They also serve the best pint of Guinness in the land! It's a great spot to come with a big group of friends, there's loads of space and also a room with a pool table! The pub itself doesn't serve food, but they very kindly allow you to bring food in from the neighbouring takeaway while you enjoy your drinks which is brilliant! Always make sure to drop by when I'm in the area, it's well worth it!

A very pleasant girl took our order for tea and some eats. Unfortunately with us driving we had to leave the Guinness but it looked nice! The inside of the pub is oldworlde and the back section of the pub is styled like an old cottage with open heart and armchairs by the fire. We were smitten with "the cottage" and all the antiques and memorabilia on the wall. Wished I could have stayed the evening. Nice pub and would like to try it for a session in the future.

Very picturesque sight with outdoor dining for boaters. It is a bar, restaurant, & inn. We had an afternoon meal here with a busload load of people (50+) from the Farrell Clan Rally 2022. Very attentive staff at the bar. We had the dining room for our group. A sumptuous three course meal was served. Entree choices were beef or salmon w/ creamed potatoes and accompanied by large bowls of seasonal roasted vegetables and two more kinds of potatoes. What a feast. It's not easy to serve 50+ people but the staff did a great job of serving every dish hot and well made. Thank you. This spot is a nice place for a lunch or dinner inside or outdoors along the canal. The guesthouse is a family-run business, and it had a very warm welcoming feel to it the whole weekend. Breakfast was wholesome and hearty, and I had a huge room all to myself for a very reasonable price. Really superb staff. We went to Birr to see if we could possibly track them down. The first place we stopped at was Kelly's pub. We had the best service and ate the best food. The soup was served with fresh homemade brown bread & Irish butter and the cottage pie was served piping hot with a rich flavour that felt not only delicious but nutritious too, The vegetables we were served tasted like they had just been picked. We asked the waitress if she could direct my American friend regarding sources of possible information on her long lost Irish relatives. Before I knew what was happening the owner John drove us to meet her family. He made phone calls, got their address and brought us there himself. I was so proud that my friend got to see the magic of Irish hospitality and selfless acts of kindness towards a stranger. Also, watched my first full Irish football game won by Mayo (our home team) in overtime. Place was packed, but Marie warned me to come early! I'll have been in Swinford for nearly 2 weeks and have enjoyed Melletts nearly daily. Heard some great local Trad music last Thursday thanks to a tip from Amy. Great pints of Guinness and nice Irish whiskey selection. They make a Yank feel right at home!!
