I've really enjoyed being a member of this Temple. This congregation is very inclusive, loves…read moremusic, has wonderful people, and very spiritual services. The congregation is also is VERY nice, warm, and welcoming. I am here almost every week. The Friday night Shabbat services recharge my spiritual batteries. We have a lot of very talented people who participate in services, so there is an excellent variety of music as well as great lay leaders who share their talents, adding to the Kol Ami Shabbat experience. I contend, through my personal experiences Jewishly, that Kol Ami is unique. The openness and joy people encourage here is something I have not found in any other synagogue or Jewish temple. Jews and non-Jews are welcome to come and help in Tikkun Olam -- repairing the world! It's a great place to feel calm, inspired, and welcome.

As strangers to the Kansas City metro, we were looking for a place of worship. I (a reformed Jew)…read moreand my wife (conservative) wanted to find a place that welcomed us. We tried a few synagogues in Kansas, but they weren't a good fit and were very far from us (we live in downtown KCMO). Lo and behold, my wife suggests that I check out Chabad. I wasn't familiar with it and was a bit nervous being that it was run by an Orthodox Hasidic community (I had little experience with this and they dress and act a bit differently than I do), but I thought I'd give it a shot. Whether it was the Rabbis and their family from Overland Park, Lawrence, or the Plaza, they were all super friendly and welcomed us with open arms to their "flock." We've enjoyed Purim parties at Chabad (where they hired a local Comedy troupe to perform), Shabbat dinners (always lots of interesting company and table talk and the food is incredible) at their houses, babysat their children, and High Holiday services. The Rabbi was more than happy to meet me at my workplace on a weekly basis to help me with my Judaic studies or to even fly to the Boston area to marry us. For those who have children, this Chabad center has a daycare and school and the children really have a great time and have lots of fun activities to participate in. Why would I know? I've acted as a "chauffeur" for the children before and they gave me a tour. Whether you are a local, visiting for business, or to see your family, or in college locally, this is a great place for you whether you are just looking to grab a Kosher meal, spend Shabbat with the Jewish community, or to get more in touch with your heritage. No matter your background, there is no pressure to conform to Orthodox Hasidic community. What truly makes them happy is bringing you one step closer to G-d. We will miss this community immensely when we move as I never had this sort of repore back "home" in Massachusetts. It will be like leaving our family behind :( We'll miss you!
