I love my school, but I wish the new lake-front building would open BEFORE my graduation date…read more(slated to be 2016). The building is ... neither practical nor aesthetically beautiful. The corridors are easy to miss if you don't know where you're headed. The departments/offices on the 2nd-6th floors are a pain to navigate after 5pm (they all auto-lock so you have to go to the first floor or G to go to a particular side of the building afterhours). The building lacks beauty. You go to Yale, Mich, Chicago, etc. business schools and their buildings just scream at you to look at them. Architecture is perhaps the last thing you should consider when choosing schools, but now that you're here, it's easy to see the comparisons with other schools.

Jacobs Center is so old…read more.. {How old is it?} Jacobs is so old, it was the original home of the Women's Christian Temperance Union that went on to start prohibition. (not really). Built in 1972, it is the main building of the Kellogg School of Management, and my home for a few years. You love the maze, right? Impossible to find where you're going, but that's part of the charm. It's how you know you're part of the "in" crowd. And since we're all contained in one space, it's like our own biome. The atrium is pretty nice. And the LSR. And don't forget the Owen L. Coon auditorium, which is a great name that we should stop shortening to OLC. In a few years, when Jacobs breathes its last breath and the new building rises from the smoldering ashes like a phoenix, some part of me will miss old Jacobs. Attention must be paid.

I had a great experience as a Chicago-Kent student. You really can't beat the location as a law…read morestudent. It is incredibly easy to get to campus and you're very close to tons of law firms, corporate offices, and government buildings which makes networking and externing very accessible. I really liked all of my professors and felt like they were all approachable and invested in my success. I particularly felt like the legal writing program and clinical programs were standout opportunities for me. I was not as happy with career services, but in their defense, they have just added a bunch of new staff who have put in a lot of work to revamp the office. The bar success office is also incredibly. I am so thankful that I had Erin and Kate to guide me through the bar exam process. Admin was also really approachable, in my opinion. I felt like they were very receptive to student feedback and did try to implement changes accordingly. The student success office was great and was really willing to coordinate with me to grant disability accommodations that made class more accessible. Overall, I have been happy with my decision to attend Chicago-Kent. While the school isn't perfect, no school is, and I felt like I was supported by my professors, classmates, and most of the administration.

Had a visit to Chicago-Kent College of Law down on Adams Street in Chicago. Very nice building just…read moreon the outskirts of downtown Chicago and right by Union Station for those that ride the train. It is also near a stop on the "L". You can drive and park but it would be expensive. Their facility is a ten-story building with tons of room. Most of the classrooms are laid out like traditional square or rectangle rooms...all seem to have up-to-date technology keeping students plugged in. The lecture and seminar rooms were very nice and on the newish side. The moot courtroom and other specialty rooms were also very nice. It is obvious Chicago-Kent is reinvesting in its property. The law library takes up three floors...from 8 to 10. On the 10th floor is the main reading room...a very large room with a soaring ceiling and a huge glass end fronting the north side of Chicago and letting in tons of natural light. The library has a series of large tables with nice lamps and chairs...students use mostly this reading room and other seating around the library...they really are not a library of carrels for each student. In other areas of the building are all the administration and faculty offices, along with the classrooms. They have a nice large diner on the 3rd floor with a lot of seating. Chicago-Kent is well-ranked in the second-50 tier of schools and the faculty is well regarded. Being so close to downtown Chicago they have the benefit of a lot of experienced lawyers coming in as adjuncts. We were out looking at law schools and stopped by for a visit...even though we showed up unannounced they had an admissions person give us a personal tour...very nice touch. It just showed a welcoming attitude, and a school that is not resting on its laurels. A good choice for a commuter law school in Chicago.

So I waited over 1 year before reviewing Symbol Job training school…read more I have to say it was a really great place to learn an excellent foundation for the machinist industry. Paul was my shop teacher and he explained everything very well and I currently use it all on my job. I also like how they taught us a few side notes about finding the right job where you can learn and grow as a machinist. To date I am on my 4th job and here is why: 1st job was just an operator and they taught us to get into a place where you can learn instead of just making the same parts all day. The pay at $14/hour was OK so it was tempting to keep it but I'm glad I upgraded after 3 weeks. 2nd job was working on HAAS mills for $16/hour which is exactly what we learned on at Symbol so it was easy but I found it a little too easy. Just mass production and I also bought a house 1.5 hours away so I needed to change again after 4 months. 3rd job was where I really learned a lot. It was a small "Job Shop" with about 7 employees and we made very different parts all the time with tight tolerances. I made $15/hour here. We also had HAAS machines and used 4th axis turrets in them. They saw that I was a fast learner and I was ambitious to start learning Mastercam Programming and I got a good foundation in programming from that. Just like the instructors said, get the right job where you can learn. They got slow on work so I was laid off along with some others so I was only there for about 7 months. 4th job making $18/hour is setting up 5 axis machines making and mostly editing Mastercam programs to make adjustments in part dimensions although I need to take some of the online classes Mastercam offers for 5 Axis programming which is only $250/class but I want to push myself anyway. I see myself here for a while as it's an excellent skill to have with Mastercam AND 5 axis machines. Overall I got a much better foundation from Symbol than many of the other coworkers who either went to a different school or learned on the job. Obviously there is always more to learn and I don't know everything but Symbol got me started. Well worth the money. Get the right job where you can grow your skills and never stop learning.

Midwestern career college is a great place. I recently had a chance to visit its campuses and learn…read moreabout its programs. It is amazing how it is the only college in Chicago that has a Surgical Technology and EEG Tech programs. The retention and graduation rates well exceed those of its competitors, including community colleges. The staff and faculty take pride in serving their students and enabling them to begin their careers in healthcare, and now in IT and business. It's definitely a great value proposition for this who thing the traditional college is not the right path for them.

Toxic place and disrespectful staff as I was a music major there…read more Here's why... 1) When I decided to change my major from music performance to sound engineering, Professor Don Deroche responded to me, "What, you wanna watch VU meters all day?" Pretty snobby comment from staff about other majors at the school. 2) I was kicked out of the DePaul Wind Ensemble by Don Deroche after missing only ONE rehearsal due to illness. Is that even legal? This unprofessional & unethical power trip from staff threatened retention of my music scholarship per its terms, just so he could be an a** - and get away with it as a tenured music school "professor." 3) I used a prior student's essay with an "A" grade for restated content in my essay for Musicianship. I was given a low "C" and had to write it again since I was not a teacher fav, and they, too, could be an a** - and get away with it as a tenured staff. 4) Conducting class gave me a "C" after I aced the final exam as this orchestra "professor" hated on me for no reason - and they, too, could be an a** - and get away with it as tenured staff. 5) The clarinet chair promised me a lunch if I tested out of all levels of ear training. After I did test out of all 6 levels, this clarinet professor reneged on their promise, and instead later chose to chide me for my complaint about it instead of owning up to their actions 6) Most music school staff refuse to maintain contact with graduates with continuing music careers. 7) U of IL offered me a full tuition-free scholarship to play clarinet for them. DePaul only offered a small partial scholarship as they seem to seek buying up property and build new brick buildings all over campus instead of focusing on student needs and talents.

Great backstage areas with recording capability, practice rooms are well designed and way more 'practice inspiring' then it once was. Serious kudos to the architect and designer for thinking of every possible thing. There are great lounge areas where you can sit and have coffee, or desks on the second floor where you can study. The bathrooms are super nice as well. Bravo!

I have been to other selective enrollment open houses and the principals at every other school got down to business and discussed what we were all there to learn, what programs the school offers, even presented current students to give their point of view of what they enjoyed about the school... However, here, the principal was more interested in flashing her Christian Louboutin heels than talking about why Payton is better than the other SSE HS...

The campus itself is rather large and more than capable of housing and schooling scores of interested students. The staff there is driven, smart and personable. I see this College thriving soon! They have a gorgeous, newly renovated 1,000 seat auditorium (where Sami Yusuf played last year!) I can't wait to take Qur'an Study and Arabic Oud Music classes. My Wife is looking forward to the Summer Institute. All in all it has a LOT of potential and seems to be heading in the right direction. Thank God.
