The asbestos industry can be incredibly overwhelming. Some of the bigger companies providing these…read moreservices rely on fear-mongering and intimidation, producing client reports that make it sound like you have to remediate everything or tear down your house in order to feel 'safe'. Do your due diligence (or keep reading this review) to get it straight once and for all. I purchased a house in Victoria. Anyone who knows Victoria knows that there is asbestos in almost every house. This is not a problem (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise) unless you 'disturb' the asbestos. In my case, I was disturbing the asbestos because I was renovating the kitchen and bathrooms. The first essential step, when you know you will need to disturb asbestos, is to have an asbestos survey done. This is essentially hiring an asbestos company that will come out and test random areas of the house, to produce a report that identifies where the asbestos is, what kind of asbestos it is and what the protocol for handling the asbestos is, for contractors and homeowners involved. The report also details other items, such as lead paint, mercury, vermiculite (they may charge extra for those samples). Samples add up quite quickly. I was originally quoted 5-7 samples and they walked out with 21, so keep an eye on scope here. I should also note that the company that I chose to do my sampling (Hazpro) was not the same company I chose to do the remediation (Canadian Haz-Mat Environmental). Canadian Haz-Mat Environmental is a fairly new company. After calling several larger companies to get quotes and timelines for remediation, some repeatedly warned me to stay away from this smaller shop, due to their inexperience, implying they are "probably not certified" and there must be a reason that they are "not busy like we are". Due to these comments, I conducted further due diligence, contacting Work Safe BC to ensure they were indeed registered (and they were). Because of the negative commentary, I lost respect for these larger firms, who were attempting to monopolize the industry by tearing down the competition by using several scare tactics, indicating I 'absolutely had to' remediate the entire house (+10k$ of work) and not to trust these smaller companies as their companies employed better expertise ("we've been doing this for years and we've never heard of these guys"). These larger companies started off by having clients (like me) give them the opportunity to prove they are capable and competent. So I decided to entrust Canadian Haz-Mat Environmental with my project, and was I ever fortunate. To start, they were ready to begin immediately, while others were 3-4 weeks out. They did not rely on intimidation techniques, and they did not want to add to my initial scope of work. They understood what I needed to do for my project, and made suggestions on how to save money with their protocol. They took the time to explain every small detail for each question I brought up - and I brought up many. They were incredibly accommodating, allowing the ability for me to add to scope as they progressed, based on my plumber's needs. They were professional, affordable and honest people. I would highly recommend going to Canadian Haz-Mat Environmental for your needs and skip the 'big-box' types. This boutique shop can do everything with integrity, and honesty.

A DEMOLISHING COMPANY WITH A HEART!…read more I can't say enough good things about Affordable Environmental, the owner Tony Chase, and his work crew. I've been trying off and on to leave a review and finally figured it out. In Spring 2023, Tony was hired to demolish a condemned 1930's farm house on my property that needed to come down. Everything was done on time, responsibly, and by the book, with asbestos abatement included. All for a very competitive price. And then the big twist happened, which really confirmed Tony's stellar reputation: After being told by the asbestos workers that there may be an old log cabin underneath the farm house, Tony took his time and "skinned" the side off, rather than just demolishing everything. He was able to do so because he is very skilled with a track hoe; it was like watching an artist at work! And sure enough, underneath was a solid log cabin structure that our local historical society estimates to be an old logging cabin from circa 1870's. Intact cabins like this are very hard to find and a historic preservationist is currently conducting research to confirm the age and ownership. But Affordable Environmental, aka Tony Chase, didn't stop there. Tony felt very strongly about keeping this historic find safe during the winter so it wouldn't deteriorate. He volunteered the materials and staff time to construct a roof structure, wrap the building in plastic, and install one of his own large dehumidifiers to keep it dry inside. And it's working! Research on this historic logging cabin can continue and perhaps grants can be found to preserve the structure for the long term. Thank you Tony Chase and the AE crew!

We looked up mould remediation businesses in the area and left messages with several. Mathew from Coastal Pure Air got back to us in minutes and, understanding the urgency of our situation, personally came to do a quote the next day even though it was a Saturday. He provided a detailed quote, gave us all the information we needed about the process, and assured us that he would schedule us as early as possible. We were impressed by his professionalism and obvious expertise in his field, and booked an appointment to have the work done. Early the following week he contacted us again: knowing our urgency to have the situation resolved he wanted to let us know that he had had a cancellation that week, and could put us in that slot instead if we preferred to have the work done earlier. Before the work was done, were provided a Service Engagement letter to sign, which clearly outlined the date the work would be done, the cost of the work, the responsibilities of Pure Air (i.e. maintaining adequate insurance, compliance with WCA, professional conduct) and options for redress if the services were not provided according to the agreement. This is the first time we have recieved anything like this from a contractor in this area, and it further impressed us with the professionalism of this business. On the day of the remediation, they arrived on time, made every effort to minimize any disruption in our activities - we work from home, so this was important - and the work was completed in good time. After the work was done we were provided with before and after photos of the affected areas, and the actual cost of the work was exactly what was provided in the quote. We were very impressd with this company from first contact. Coastal Pure Air staff were responsive, professional, and definitely went above and beyond to help us. We would highly recommend them to anyone

We had come to believe that our somewhat ancient, free standing garage was a lost cause. For more than 40 years it has been our 'go to' stash for everything that didn't fit into our small, 900 square foot home... including the residue of our parents' estates that we had not yet found a way to part with. All this 'stuff' languished relatively safely there until last year when the rats moved in. Within a very short period of time, the garage & its contents were contaminated. We cleared it out last summer and did our best to clean, however, the odour of rat feces & urine had permeated the concrete floor, the wooden walls, the small attic & everything that remained inside. Going in there required wearing a mask and was clearly not healthy. Online research led me to Coastal Pure Air... a phone call reassured me that, indeed, something could be done for us & a date for the procedure was set up quickly. From first to last, Mathew has not only been a consummate professional, but also a comfortable and easy person to deal with. He is interested, knowledgeable & willingly answered all of our questions about his process and what we could expect. We are delighted with the result! We now have a sanitized, safe garage with not one whiff of rat smells! We recommend Mathew and Coastal Pure Air without reservation.
