My husband is there with sepsis he does not want to be on machines. He was scheduled for heart surgery. they were supposed to talk to me before the surgery. What I felt was best for him and i decided to take him off the machines and let him go because thats what wants, Without asking me they went and did the surgery. read more

It's been an awful place with abusive staff. Dr Getshin constantly changes medication on me and now is having the RCmP arrest me monthly to get a shot that takes hours. Last month a relative was admitted to KGH for complications after a fall. We were impressed by the care given by the staff in 4A. During his last two weeks he was treated with attentive care. Dr. Wilson was patient and addressed all of the concerns voiced from the family. Feeling grateful, the family printed these compliments in the obituary. read more

Exceptional care in Emergency Room today. For all those that complain about the ER in general, here's a positive story. Went in at 10am and was out by noon. That included registration, triage, nurse consult, exam, doctor consult, x-rays, results and follow up. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and incredibly efficient. The Kelowna Hospital intentionally killed my father. He was in good health to the point that they told his family to go home to Alberta because he was well. The next day many in the family spoke and facetimed with him. He was in excellent health and not short of breath. No lung or breathing problems whatsoever. The next day the ICU Dr. called me and said they put him on a vent because he was having trouble breathing and that my dad consented to it. Of course it wasn't long before he passed because vents have a 90% kill rate. I believe the Kelowna hospital Dr.'s decide who they want to allow to live and it certainly doesn't include the elderly or the disabled. Perhaps it extends to the young and the healthy. read more

The nurses had zero care for patients. The attending doctor was neglectful. I basically had to tell him how to do his job. Totally disgusted in the healthcare teams at this hospital. They seem to be in their assigned professions for the pay check and not to help the patient. read more

Dr mcinnis would not provide proper medical treatment he treated me horribly. I do not recommend seeing this dr at kgh ever. I was trying to express my concerns and told me he had zero sympathy as he had two back surgerys before and would not look any further into the server pain. I was at the hospital the day before and the doctor was amazing he gave an anti inflammatory and it helped . Since dr Mc Innis would not even listen to me . I went to urgent Care and ended up getting the anti inflammatory that worked. I don't even know how this dr McInnis can call himself a doctor when he treated me horribly. He would not even help me back into a wheel chair and just told me he would call me security. I almost fell off the hospital bed. And I really do feel this needs to be seriously reported against this dr. And I hope for the sake of future patients that they take this review seriously read more

On Sept. 9/22, I was admitted to KGH after a logging truck flipped its load in my path on Mabel Lk. Rd., as I was heading into Enderby. By some miracle , I sustained minor injuries. I want to commend and thank the caring, skilled doctors and nurses and O.Ts and ER team, namely Dr. Loken, Dr. Saunders G.I. and a staff of compassionate nurses who tended to me. One star is for the people who work at Kelowna General who genuinely care. There is an evil undercurrent that flows throughout Kelowna General hospital. Discontented understaffed wards, lack of communication, sprinkled with employees seriously under qualified to do their jobs. Gossip became part of my permanent medical record and a recommendation disguised as caring (to move me to a paid facility for lack of effort to do Physical therapy) was made after 9 horrifying days of neglect, disgusting food, mixed messages, public announcements that I'd pee'd the bed AGAIN when no response came from solicited staff with a bed pan. When I told the stone faced admin that under no circumstances was I being shipped off to yet another daunting facility i was ignored. In the end I devised an escape plan (to call a cab) to return home where I was surrounded by loving family & friends. Every time I have to return for xrays, PT or to see the surgeon I shutter. read more

My daughter and son in law arrived at emergency with an unresponsive 5 week old baby. Before my daughter was air transferred out to Children's Hospital that night they were already being treated as child abusers by the staff. One of the medical personnel on the plane said the C02 level was wrong for the baby and said Kelowna General Hospital did not even have a proper sized ventilator for the baby. My daughter had a long hard labour with morphine, strong inducement drugs, 2 epidurals, three spinals and when the baby went into distress an emergency C-section was performed with the Dr. wrenching on the baby and swearing saying this was the hardest baby to pull out of a birth canal she had ever seen. This all took place at Kelowna General Hospital. The baby was in critical condition for a week in Childrens Hospital and they did not finding what caused the issues and therefore decided it must be the scientifically debunked theory of Shaken Baby Syndrome. The ministry without so much as interviewing the parents as to what happened agreed and apprehended the baby. The baby is thriving at the home of the grandparents with the parents visiting as often as allowed with constant supervision, the emotional stress for all of us has been immense. The unprofessional labelling of abuse and threats of foster care with medical team and social workers just following along, is shocking in a country where we thought we had fair due process, innocent until proven guilty. They say they act to protect the child but how is this helpful to the family as a whole to emotionally abuse them. If anyone has had a similar experience at Kelowna General Hospital we would love to hear about it. We have lawyered up (2 lawyers) as advised and are in for the ride of our lives, the parents did not abuse this child and in many similar cases it is medical malpractise that turns out to be the cause of injury but of course that is not the first go to when the medical 'professionals' are driving the agenda. without read more

I am a senior who has moved here 4 years ago from Mississauga/Toronto and who has had to visit this hospital every year. I cannot say enough about the quality of care I have received from the staff; especially the nurses. This includes my emergency room visits as well as scheduled procedures. My oncologist, family doctor and specialists are some of the finest I have ever encountered. read more

I had an angiogram at KGH today. I had numerous staff members look after me today. They were more than professional. They were caring, considerate and compassionate. They were very friendly and personable while giving me the utmost in care. The Cath Lab is staffed with highly skilled people who obviously love their job. The ER department has an ER nurse named Bonnie. She was the best. Worked almost off her feet, she was on top of it all making sure the ER patients had what they needed. If you have Dr. Nash, you might as well just kill yourself. She lies, makes false promises, sends people home who are clearly ill, and most of the rest of the hospital staff doesn't care either. If you need medical care here you might as well try to do it yourself in someone's garage with power tools, because not only won't you be lied to and have to wait almost a year to get your surgery, but the outcome will be better too. read more

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. Very poorly run. There are some nurses who are nice, and the new wing is clean (not the old wing) but that is where the good ends. This is an utter disgrace. I read that even a frustrated doctor (Dr. David Rhine) has gone public on tv at the bad stage of the ER here where a 102 year old woman with chest pains was not attended to after 10 hours of waiting. Having seen this hospital I am not surprised at all. I am from the US and was I have been up here to visit my sister in-law who now has been admitted twice for conditions including stroke and a heart attack. Getting any real medical updates is almost impossible. The first time she was first admitted (around Christmas) we tried to get to a doctor to get an update over several days, and were told we would have to wait 4-5 days. When she refused to take her medicine, we asked if it could be added to her IV - we were told possibly and no action was taken. Recently on getting admitted again, they forgot to give her regularly prescribed seizure medicine and resulted in 2 seizures till they realized the error. Did I already say the management of this hospital is v. poor.. I have seen a lot of hospital activity in the US and also been to hospitals in India. I used defend Canada type health care system in discussions in the US, but after seeing this hospital I can honestly say this does not compare to any hospital in the US that I have been exposed to, and if fact I would rather be sick in India that this care. I hope this is the case with this one poorly run hospital. I feel sorry for the patients (incl. my sister in law), and the employees here as I don't think any one good person can have an impact. read more

Had a GI endoscopy done today. The teamwork in this part of the hospital is wonderful. i was admitted over the phone, smoothly processed at the counter, checked for vitals, dressed, IV'd and having my procedure in under 35 minutes! Everyone that assisted me, from redirecting me, to admitting, to prepping me for the procedure was friendly thorough and approachable. The nurses had a great sense of humour and made a point to remember that I was a patient, not just a number. Thank you. read more

I was in the hospital from April 14 to 18. I was in an older section where it was crowded with 4 beds in one room and a bathroom. It was not bad. The nurses were great. The food was good except for the dinner vegies ... very overcooked. I would not be upset if I had to stay at KGH again. read more

Brought my 82 year old dad in today, severe trouble breathing, heart pain and took his nitro 4 or 5 times during the night and again while at emerg at the hospital. The triage nurse couldn't get a read so they tried 2 different machines twice and then sent him out into the waiting room. Waited over a half an hour asked the admitting nurse twice because he was having heart pain and almost fainting in his chair between outbursts of frustration... she said to wait our turn. WTF?!! A heart attack is not a broken leg. Can't believe the difference from one emergency room to another in this country. He was suffering so badly he said bring me home ... I'll die there at least not here in the waiting room. I hope those people in emergency go through what we're just going through ... I can't friggin believe this! If I could give less than a star review to post our experience I would, but I have to give at least 1 star. Extremely bad. Go to the Vernon hospital or somewhere else, but not the Kelowna hospital. read more

I had to take my wife to emergency and was stressed because of her condition. I took her in but of course there was a line up at admitting. I quickly ran out to park my car and saw a Public Parking sign across the street. I parked the car and paid for four hours and placed the ticket on the dash of my car. When I came out to buy another ticket about three and a half hours later I found a fifty-seven dollar ticket on my windshield stating I was parked on private property. Confused about this I started searching for a sign stating I shouldn't be parked there. I finally found a sign stating that the area was staff parking. I worked for the City of Kelowna as the Roadways Operations supervisor and one of my responsibilities was the construction of parking lots. I would strongly suggest the signs be painted in a different colour then the Public Parking signs and also that the sign posts be taller then the vehicles. The signs now are the same colour and are placed behind the parking stalls, this would be ok if the sign posts were tall enough to be seen over the cars. I would ask that these reasonable requests be taken care of asap. I am not angry, just want to point this out so that nobody else gets a ticket when going into the Emergency while, highly stressed and making the same error that I did. It was very expensive considering I already paid six dollars for time I didn't get. I find Emergency Parking is a serious issue that should be increase by at least seventy percent. The Kelowna general hospital management needs to be investigated. They attemtped to send a patient back to her care facility without notifying the facility of the move. We (the family) had to tell the hospital that the care facility was closed due to a flu outbreak. What would have happened if a family member wasn't there, she would have been sent in an ambulance and then sent back to the hospital. What a waste of resources, both money and effort. This is only one instance of sloppy procedures we have witnessed. I have been asking to speak to the doctor in charge for two days and no nurse can reach him. This is disgraceful. We all need to report what we see at this hospital in the hopes that whomever is in charge is replaced. read more

This has got to be the shittiest hospital around for a big city. You go to the emergency room for help cause your having a sharp stabbing pain and your whole right side is hurting and guess what? They won't help you instead they will cook popcorn and eat fuzzy peaches instead of actually helping you. And on top of this they won't give you a cab voucher when your to young to drive and you have to work at 6 in the morning and leave you stranded when you get a ambulance to give you a ride. In the case of Lyme disease diagnosis, there needs to be more awareness. There is a hit and miss occurance of overworked Docters trying to diagnose too many people. There maybe too much stress, occuring in the emergency area, from shortage of Docters that may put patients at risk, with too quick a diagnosis. read more

I recently had ear surgery with Dr. P. Mick in the new wing at Kelowna General Hospital. Prior to my surgery, I met each person separately involved in my care (Surgeon, Anesthesiologist , Nurse) while in the OR, and each one checked my ID band, and asked what procedure I was having done. I found the Anesthesiologist to be quite incompetent with giving me the IV. I offered my right hand knowing it had an excellent vein but she insisted on trying my other hand and arm because it was on a more convenient side for her. She poked me 2x which eventually blew out the veins and caused huge bruises to form. She then switched sides with the nurse and was able to put the IV in my right hand on the first try. The surgery was a success. The care I received from the Post op Recovery room nurses was top notch. They checked my vitals regularly administered pain meds, and answered any questions I had related to my surgery and recovery. They encouraged me to get up and try to walk around when I was able. I honestly cannot think of anything negative to say about the care I received at Kelowna General Hospital (with the exception of the Anesthesiologist). read more

A very disappointing stay on 4-West, I had shoulder replacement. The nurses were of no help, never straightened my bed or my tangle of cords. Snarky and downright rude to everyone on the ward. Disappeared for hours. Couldn't even get a wheelchair to leave, walked out dragging my bags behind me. Hope I never have to go back. read more

the nurses were great but the plastic surgery doctor i had was so arragant and unprofessional. i spent 2 days trying to get surgery from 2 broken fingers from a serious car accident. my other hand has soft tissue damage, so i have very limited use of both hands. i was bypassed for a similar or lesser operation because he was a golfing friend which was confirmed by the nurses on day 2. 3rd day trying to get surgery still with no success.. i have filed a complaint so we will see if the process really works or if it will be swept under the rug because he is a doctor who thinks he's god! read more
