If you didn't know that this bar was here then you probably wouldn't end up wandering in, as from the outside this place looks run down and deserted. Come inside though, and you'll find a massively stocked bar with great staff, plenty of places to sit and great company! The Kelvingrove Cafe hasn't been open particularly long, but in it's short life span it's already made a huge fan base, with it being pretty busy every single night of the week. The fully stocked bar, that has a bunch of things on tap and hundreds of bottles of other strange and wonderful drinks, is met by lovely staff and really decent prices. The bar does food, which I've never had myself but I've heard is of a good standard, but I'll probably be back to try it soon! read more

Delightful little cafe for a wee breakfast. Cappuccino was tasty as a cappuccino should be. The KC muesli was really good, fresh blackberries, strawberries, cranberries and even pumpkin seeds mixed in with soya (you can get regular milk, soya or coconut water). I felt very healthy eating this. My dad, however got the full scottish breakfast with black pudding which looked awesome and according to him tasted just as good. My mothers eggs Benedict also seemed very tasty, however not quite as big of portion as the Scottish breakfast. All around it's a cute little cafe with good food. Would definitely go back. read more

Popped in while my friend was at helm in the kitchen. His daily facebook updates on the days offering meant our little 5pm booking got kicked to the kerb and we dined here in style. The stand out for me were Eggs Kelvingrove: toasted muffins, poached eggs and venison sausage. Oh yes! The decor is very of the moment for the newly elevated status of Fin-Aye-Ston, and this place is a welcome beacon in the colder weather. Lazy Saturday afternoon, the first of the new year, saw us ambling along to Kelvingrove Cafe for lunch. Took a booth by the window and surveyed the shabby chic interior. Looked warm and welcoming with mulled wine on offer as well as a selection of American draught beers. The brunch menu, served until 4pm, is short mainly featuring variations on Eggs Benedict which I chose. Two perfectly poached eggs sat on a split muffin surrounded by the classic sauce. I shared a portion of 'rich' chips which came dressed in truffle oil and parmesan - heavenly! Traditional fish and chips looked tasty with a light crispy batter, while another of our party declared the Reuban sandwich, replete with pastrami, cheese and pickles, among the best he'd tasted. read more

A Couple of Bright Spots in Amongst the Dim I used to moan that restaurants were too light - food and dining companions always look better in candlelit soft focus. But KC's gone a wee bit too far. If I can't see my wife sitting two feet away, then it's too dark. Do I sound old? Maybe. But when my much younger wife :-) and her equally young friend start using their phone lights to see what they're eating then I feel justified. Your restaurant/bar's too goddamn dark (for eating at least). We all ordered burgers and in general they were pretty tasty. There's a tenners worth of fat burger, chips and coleslaw and I can see why some with a smaller oral cavity might find them hard to eat. And because they're served on small roofing tiles, be prepared to give your table a wee wipe down after eating. But tasty nevertheless and there was one other bright spot to illuminate the evening - The smiley waitress, maître d, hostess or wherever they call it these days. read more

Stripped back exteriors seem to be popular at this part of Argyle Street & the Kelvingrove Cafe is no exception. It's dimly lit interior goes well with the frontage & is very conducive to just taking your time & letting the day unfold around you, at least if you're in midweek the morning before Hogmanay it is anyway. Opting for banana on toast (could have done with a squishier banana) to quell a grumbling gut I passed a pleasant hour or so avoiding the rain & enjoying the staff's banter in the background. Of an evening it could well be very popular (there's a large function/dining area in the basement too) so I can't comment on how comfortable that is but siting yourself here to work remotely during the day appears a very viable option. read more

Visited here today just for coffee and it was lovely. Water was brought over to us once seated before placing our order. Staff were very friendly and having coffee by the fire made for a very relaxing morning. Would love to go back to food. read more

Really chilled out vibe but definitely styled sharply with great variety of drinks and cocktails, all executed well. I was a few shades from sobriety when I went with a large group of friends but everything from the decor to the staff were welcoming, and memorable in a unique, 'Anchorman', leatherbound books and rich mahogany, sort of way. I think I asked about hosting events there, and the waitress was very informative, and enthusiasti... I think? I'm sure she was. Yeah, double thumbs up. read more

I would describe the Kelvingrove Cafe as vino-tatty-chic as is a lot of the cafes, bars and restaurants in Finnieston. It's a look I particularly like. With great detail and attention given to some elements like the brassed mirrors or the ornate ceiling and in contrast exposed brick and old alcohol advertisements scattered around the walls. We never got here for a drink in the evening but the place would transition well between casual breakfasts and cocktail bar in the evening. Not a huge selection of beer is on offer but I did see a local lager, stout and more ordinary fare. The breakfasts are simple but abundant. I swear the with the eggs and avocado there was not less than a full one and half avocados on the plate. I especially liked the eggs and corn cakes which were delicious and even more improved by a light splash of tabasco. The only thing letting down the cafe for breakfast anyway was the drawn out wait for fairly simple dishes even when not exceedingly busy. Expect to wait about 40 minutes. Which when your post night out ravenous seems like a lifetime. The staff however are extraordinarily friendly, the kind of friendly which makes you feel like you've lived in the area for a few years and come in every second day and become a regular friendly. That kind of atmosphere can never be translated into a chain enterprise. read more

Been here a couple of times, once in the evening with a friend for cocktails and once with my mum for lunch. The cocktails are great, a couple of classics but a good variety of different options so you should be sure to find a cocktail you like. It's very relaxed and quiet in the evening, so perfect for a first date The lunch is also great. I had cauliflower and blue cheese soup which was divine, and their lattes are also decent (I hate the round saucer cups though). We also brought my mum's dog in and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

The French Onion Soup was cheesy and delicious. It was a little salty, but I still ate it because it was so tasty. I love savory pies, so I was happy they had a trio of mini pies. BARGAIN ALERT... Two main courses and a bottle of house wine for £30!!! This offer seems to run Mon to Wed. In keeping with its neighbours this place has oodles of ramshackle charm, not to mention a friendly welcome. It might look a bit scruffy, it might look a little worn, but that's seemingly intentional and creates a cool cozy atmosphere. We had two mains from the specials menu (beef bourguignon with dumplings and a beetroot walnut goats cheese salad), both beautifully prepared using local, in season produce. Lots of folk came in just to use the bar, it's well stocked, perfect for pints or cocktails. I'm planning to try lots of other places on this strip, but I'm sure I'll be back here for more soon. read more

The Kelvingrove is an excellent cocktail bar. Almost every person we asked for cocktail bar recommendations sent us here and we were not disappointed. Their selection of amaro and vermouths is impressive and their cocktail menu has several unique drinks that must be tried such as Writer's Block. We spent a couple nights after dinner chatting with the wonderful bartender Jamie while he deviated from the drink menu to make us interesting cocktails. He really made this place shine and we will absolutely come back next time we are in town. read more

After hearing such good things about this place I was excited to try it. I went for brunch and the menu pretty much had the perfect brunch options - I couldn't pick between about 4 things, but eventually I went for the classic eggs benedict. The toasted muffins the eggs lay on were super crispy which tasted really good but was super hard to cut, but because the taste was great that didn't really matter. The eggs were perfectly cooked for me, just the right amount of softness and the bacon was slightly crispy but not too much. I'm not a hollandaise expert but it added to the rest of the dish and tasted very nice. The staff were friendly and took our order fairly sharpish but the wait between our coffees and food was quite a long time for a quiet Sunday at 11am, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. I wasn't in a rush but some of us were, so it maybe felt longer than it was. That wasn't enough to put me off, but it's worth a mention in case you do need to be out quickly. But hey, maybe it was a one off! The decor was super cool and the whole place had a nice 'vibe' for a Sunday early afternoon. There was window seats that I'd happily sit in all afternoon with coffee/cakes and people watch on Argle Street, however I'd also see myself coming in the evening and having a few cocktails at the bar. I'd definitely go back, next time to try the evening menu I think! read more

Kelvingrove Cafe is a relative newcomer to the burgeoning Finnieston bar scene and I for one have greeted its arrival with open arms. On approach the bar is appealingly unassuming, a welcome change from the neon glare of many of the nightspots in the city. Interestingly the 19th century building still displays much of its signage from days of yore when it was a popular Italian cafe. The tastefully decorated drinking den is the new venture of award-winning cocktail connoisseur Mal Spence, cocktail fans rejoice! In the name of research I decided to try a few, well it would be rude not to (and would make for a rather futile review). First up was the Old Fashioned, Don Draper would be proud...and tipsy. Delicious. I followed up with a Mint Julep, not surprisingly it was very minty. In a creative twist the drink was presented like a potted plant with large sprigs of mint leaf sprouting out from the pewter chalice. Unusual and refreshing. Next on the table, as I slipped gradually under it, was the rum based Treacle. Tasty and fruity, an apple juice that really packs a punch. Prices vary but a cocktails typically cost around £6 and fans of a more simple tipple fear not, the bar has a varied selection of beers and wines too. Kelvingrove Cafe is definitely worth checking out, it has a relaxed vibe, friendly and skilled staff and a cracking drinks selection to boot. read more

Can't speak to the food because we arrived after the kitchen closed. Weirdly it was only just before 8 which felt early to not have food, let alone bar snacks. Our cocktails were not pleasant. We had been warned my dates drink was sweet but it literally just tasted of sugar. My drink on the other hand was bland. The bartender had also spilled the powdered garnish for my drink all down the side which was an unpleasant discovery after I put down my glass and found my hand coated. Service was also pretty terrible. The waitress seemed flustered at first despite the place being half full. When we tried to get the bill it took forever with both waitresses on their phones and the bartender helping other diners. Was really disappointed, had heard good things about this spot previously. Ended up going across the street and had a much better experience for the same price. read more

This is quickly becoming one of my favourite bars in Glasgow. Their mixed drinks are superb and the food while not as unbelievably good as their mixed drinks is definitely at a much higher standard than you will find in any other bar, or a good many restaurants. read more

Decided to go here for a late lunch/early dinner on Sunday. We were just in time for their brunch menu however my boyfriend wanted something more substantial so we waited for their a la carte which started at 4pm. I spotted the shakshuka on the brunch menu though and was very eager to try so they allowed us to dine from different menus. My boyfriend ordered the lobster slider, mac n cheese slider, chicken slider and spicy chips. While we waited we had a look at the cocktail menu however I never fancied anything on it so I asked the barman if he could make different cocktails and he gave me a fewo other options based on what I like. The cocktail came Ina cute martini glass which seemed quite small but they were very strong so that is probably why it was small! The food came and I was impressed with mine. 2 eggs baked in spicy tomato sauce with crusty brown bread to scoop it up! However my boyfriends food wasn't as good. The lobster slider was cold so It was more like a prawn cocktail sandwich. The mac and cheese burger wasn't as good as it sounds! It actually wasn't very cheesy. The chips were ok but seemed like they were undercooked as they were slightly mushy. The service was good and the waiter was very polite. The interior is cool and has a good laid back feel but it still feels quite upmarket. A bit on the pricey side for a sunday brunch but reasonable for the location! read more

Popped in here the other night. Such a nice place, and a refreshing change to the surrounding pubs [which I love, but they can get a bit samey]. It has lovely decor, great lighting, friendly staff and table service. I had the most delicious old fashioned of my life, and yes, the ice block does make a difference to the taste! It is so nice to have somewhere in the west end to go for a cocktail that has such a nice cozy atmosphere, unlike the cocktail bars in town with their too loud music and too cool staff. The decor reminds me of a lot of bars in Berlin - considered, but not too much; effortlessly chic. Will definitely be back. read more

I've been here three times in the past week (just in town for work and this place is a block away from where I'm staying). They have a nice selection of brews and other spirits, very reasonably priced. The food has all been good except the burgers were very overdone. The menu says served pink unless asked otherwise, and even when I specifically confirmed that it would be pink it was still cooked all the way through. Other than that, I've enjoyed everything about this place. The servers have all been very pleasant. If I actually lived here I imagine I'd be a regular. read more

The food here is quite good and the ambience we encountered was a marriage of Cuban and Motown, which isn't exactly unique but has a definite charm to it. The service, however, was SO-SO in the most generous of terms. It's never pleasant to be tourists and made to feel unwelcome, but beyond that we felt rather ripped off because we never received the change on our bill. We understand that tipping is customary in North America, however presuming a tip or failing to return change is not something we ever encounter in Canada or the US. As overly-polite Canadians we failed to make a legitimate fuss about it, but it certainly left a sour taste on the palate. read more

Having been to this bar on a couple of occasions and enjoyed the atmosphere and decor we decided to give their menu a try - BIG MISTAKE!! My partner ordered the fish and chips which arrived nicely presented in mock newspaper - little did he realise the paper would probably have been tastier than the contents of the parcel!! A tiny portion of limp, soggy skinny fries, soggy battered, dry fish served with a miniscule ramekin of mushy peas. I ordered the hot dog and when it arrived it was lukewarm and I could barely get my teeth through it it was so tough. At £10 and £6 respectively and £22 for a bottle of wine definitely not cheap and being located in an area where there is a plethora of excellent bars( Lebowskis, Black Sparrow, Chinaski's to name but a few) serving great food at competitive prices this bar will need to up its' game if it wants to survive. The overly attentive waiting staff were noticably scarce after receiving some honest feedback about the food. But there's more!! A couple arrived with a dog (which we have no issue with) and the dog was permitted to sit on the seats - even after returning form a walk in the rain with one of its' owners the dog promptly jumped up onto the seat and the waiting staff who were present and chatting to the couple did not attempt to advise the couple that dogs should not be on the seats so a word of warning folks - check the seats before you plant yourself,do not visit this bar wearing your Sunday best and head across the road to the Grove for a decent fish supper!!! read more
