    Pressed lamb

Enter into this magical place on the west end for the best dinner in Scotland, bar none! We started with the cured salmon with smoked roe, mackerel, bbq carrots and scallops. WOW!! Each starter had their own great flavor profiles and set our palates perfectly for what was to come. Be sure to meet Will who fully understands the menu and was quite fun to banter with a bit back and forth. Abbey was wonderful! She made excellent suggestions for our mains so we went with the venison, monkfish and lamb. Each was better than the last! Venison melts in your mouth! Monkfish was grilled perfectly and the lamb was pressed and almost like a confit!! Desert was just a awesome!! Raspberry sorbet with lemon tart, chocolate mousse and caramel as well as affagato using brown butter ice creme!! The experience was outstanding and the food was incredible!! Don't forget to get one or two Old Fashioned's from Matt who had been with the restaurant for 30 years!!! Don't miss this wonderful place on a quaint little alley on the west end!!

This was a highly recommended restaurant in Glasgow so my friends and I came here for dinner on a weekday. We made a reservation in advance. Getting into the restaurant as a bit confusing (there's a bar on the bottom and you'll need to go up the stairs to enter the restaurant. We shared dishes family style but noticed other people had individual dishes. We ordered the following: - Burrata - the burrata was very fresh and the blistered tomato's were yummy - Calamari - rather on the small side, but the batter was light and crunchy - Falafel - I thought I'd like this more, but the falafel was a tad dry - Steak frites - a good plate to share if you're wanting some red meat, but not wanting to be too unhealthy - Mac and cheese - I can't get enough of dairy in the UK and this dish was no exception Service was on the slow side and we had to follow up multiple times to get water refills. The ambiance is really nice and bright. Washrooms are available by the bar area. It's a good spot for a corporate meal or a date night.

First time here was 30+ years ago, and from then to now the place has gotten both bigger and better. Great food, inventive, authentic, and oh so flavorful. Ask for a lemon or orange zest on your affogato, you won't be disappointed.

Tucked behind the bustle on Ashton Lane, enjoy something uniquely Ubiquitous. The downstairs dining room wasn't available so we ended up in a way better spot upstairs. Of course I was here with all the ladies who began taking pics of all the greenery, because rooftop dining in the rainy season here is an arboretum with great food. The rest were busy splitting a bottle of white while I enjoyed the Local Chip, which of course was exclusively brewed for this place. There are a few other UK locals if interested. The charcuterie was decadent yet different, featuring chilled shellfish, and they pulled it off. We skipped the small plates but gnudi and venison were tempting (besides it's "Chip's own"). As with the wine, this group seems to like similar stuff, so two got seabass and loved it. I was going Bavette steak all the way, and it was a solid choice. You'll also find some nice vegetarian dishes along the way. Somewhere in there they talked themselves into bottle #2, and why not? Affogatto does nicely for a pseudo dessert, and of course the sharers shared some lemon & poppyseed cake. Don't worry about missing out on menu items if you're upstairs either, because you'll have virtually the same choices. Great service and memorable eating made the evening go by too quickly. We'll hopefully return quickly.

Last dinner in Glasgow and it was great. Had the Bouillabaisse and BF had the Sea Bass with Lentils. Decent portions and both were between 21-23 pounds. Great atmosphere and staff were attentive.

I came for dinner on a Monday night. It was very busy, and I was glad I had made a reservation. It was a little tricky to figure out where to go to find my table. The part of the restaurant I reserved a table was in the upstairs area. When I arrived, I went upstairs. There wasn't any servers in sight so I stood there for about 10 minutes before I finally found a server and asked where I should go for my reserved table. The server was nice and gave me recommendations from the menu. The black bean and chickpea burger was on the bland side and was incredibly dry. The rhubarb and custard was excellent. Tangy, creamy and sweet. I think if I were to come here again, I'd book a table at a different part of the restaurant.

On a cold February afternoon in 2020, before the world came to a standstill, we visited UK and enjoyed a light lunch, scotch and gin at Ubiquitous. We sat up in the mezzanine , enjoying the ambience. I forget what we ate, but recall it was very nice. The scotch flight I had and the gin flight my wife had were amazing. The pleasant memory I have of this place albeit with the detail faded, is testament to the greatness of the place. Recommended and I'll visit again when I can. Slainte!

Quite simply I think this is the best restaurant in all of Scotland! Not only does it have a fine dining restaurant, but it has a casual upstairs bistro, and a pub, you really can't go wrong! This restaurant in this whole area of Ashton Lane was recommended to us by some friends from Scotland... This whole area is really great so spend the evening here and pop into a couple spots. This should be your spot for dinner 100%. We initially made a reservation in the high end dining room, but after looking at the prices and realizing we were in the mood for more casual and quicker dinner, we asked to switch upstairs to the bistro. They were happy to accommodate which was very nice. We had a very nice mix of lots of different food, they have a lot of different small sharing plates, as you can see from the pictures the presentation is incredible. The muscles were just amazing! The highlight though of the meal was the haggis... Something that can be done very terribly as a foreigner if you know what I mean... This was probably one of the best dishes I tasted on our trip, and obviously the best haggis I've ever had in my life. It's a 52 year old recipe and it does not disappoint, it basically tastes like the most perfectly seasoned ground up little bits of meat that have all the little gamey pieces and organ pieces that are interesting but not over the top. Served with purée of parsnips and potatoes and an incredible gravy that makes it just perfect. The highlight of our trip food wise!

    The mallard duck entree

The location is a bit quirky, but the food was amazing. It was one of the best meals I have had all year. Service was impeccable and lovely ambiance.

Dessert of crowdie cheesecake- definitely a highlight and would recommend again

This place is gorgeous! Its definitely an experience to walk in here I loved all the indoor plants and the beautiful garden they created. They also had a fountain in the corner and the space is brightly lit since the roof is glass which lets in a lot of sunlight. They told me all the plants were real as well, and as a succulent lover, this place was my paradise! Great drinks, well mixed - i recommend the peach daiquiri. We got these to start. Haggis venison was outstanding and it comes with neeps and tatties, beautifully arrangled on the plate, I will say the portions are on the smaller side but if you're there for lunch its a good meal, dinner portions are larger they said. It is a little expensive for the price but just order more, you're paying for the space Dessert of crowdie cheese cake is showstopper and I highly recommend getting this if youre here. You can digest it by walking around ashton lane after that :) Great service- there is seating on top I recommend getting as high up to the skylight as you can but all the spaces in this restaurant are lovely. The staff is good and help with offering tourist recommendations as well as details on food presentation and helping with allergies Great bathrooms and lots of them so less waiting. Also uniquely spaced and interesting layout of the whole restaurant

Highly recommend. I had one evening in Glasgow and I am pretty sure I could not have picked a better spot to spend it. "Chip" is in a fun, lively alley. I recommend walking around the neighborhood first, and then checking out the different spaces of the restaurant itself before you are seated. I can't pick a favorite. The bars looked fun (especially the little bar), the rooftop was cozy and unique, the fine dining space looked beautiful, and the mezzanine, where I sat, was so unique and special. Drinks were good, and the food was great. The mussels were TO DIE FOR! A must-do in Glasgow.

I first came to UC back in 2015 and was awed and blown away. I certainly did enjoy the food here this time around, but I have also found other spots in Glasgow and Edinburgh that have comparable pricing but much more delicious tasting menus. I'd rate my experience here at 3.5 stars. The wine pairing was excellent. The wine alone tasted not as good as the accompanying wine with the matching dish. Service was superb. The Glasgow accent is thick and sometimes hard to make out what they're saying. The lad that served our wine knows a lot about wine! Would I return the next time I travel to Glasgow and Edinburgh? Who knows???? We shall see what the world looks like in 5+ years! I had a pleasant experience nonetheless b

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. This is a must try restaurant for me and I will definitely visit again very soon.

There is a good variety of dishes for the munching, but there is usually only one vegetarian option available as a main course so if you have a veggie amongst your number, make sure to check the menu before you drag them in. I had the pleasure of attending a Christmas Lunch with my colleagues at this fine establishment. Everything was absolutely delicious. What I particularly like is that they have veg in bowls for passing around the group, rather than just dish them out regardless of people's preferences. You can have as much or as little as possible. Oh, and all their desserts are amazing, and they have different specials every week. The cheesecake is particularly good (and I shouldn't have it because of my lovely allergies), and they make their own tablet to go with the coffee! The waiting staff are ever attentive, filling your glass with the table wine whenever they spot an empty glass. They're always smiley and up for a chat as well! It's refreshing to see staff that seem to be enjoying the company of the customers. It certainly helps to foster a homely vibe to this charming wee place. Don't be shy, give it a try! They also have specials on, which tonight was a Pork Loin with mustard mash and a rosemary and thyme jus. (Can tell Fiona went for this!) Service was as I recalled & excellent the whole night. We pretty much spent 3 hours in there & the last table out... At no time did we feel anything was an issue for the staff. I had the chilli and tortilla chips for starters & pleasantly surprised at the chips being made in house. Absolutely lifted the dish for me to another level. Cottage Pie for mains & it was roasting! Could have done with room to move the meat around underneath, as some bits were a little oily, but it just needed mixed. Absolutely delicious delicate flavours mind. My only criticism of the meal experience, was the house wine they supply. Simply put at £10/12 a bottle - frankly rotten stuff. We ended up ordering from the buttery wine list to £41 for a bottle of pinot noir, to get something you could drink without tasting the chemicals! At £10/12, you can do a lot better on the wine front - no excuse there I'm afraid. Whole meal itself was a delight & more a dining experience with the quirks of old style plates/cutlery like in the pig and the butterfly restaurants. If a building like St Andrews in the Square existed anywhere else in…read moreEurope, it would feature on postcards, be highlighted on guided tours and sign-posted from across the city. Tourists would flock and photograph it from every angle, creating albums on Facebook entitled "Me at St Andrews in the Square" to a sea of thumbs ups from friends who like it. Instead, this lovingly-restored 18th century church is inconspicuously located in among modern east end flats and virtually impossible to stumble across unless you are specifically looking for it. And what a pity, because when it's lit at night, it provides one of the most spectacular photo opportunities in the city. Those who do know this building, know it's one of the greatest classical churches in Europe with a truly sumptuous interior. Now used as a performing arts centre, St Andrews in the Square can also be hired as a spectacular setting for ceilidhs, concerts, weddings and receptions. Just go. I promise you will not be disappointed.

It seems to live in a sort of parallel universe, stuck in the middle of blocks of flats. I visited the cafe a few Sunday ago and, despite the sophisticated art deco style interior and impressive menu, the place was dead. I think this is because most people don't realise it's there.

They aren't reinventing the wheel, their dishes are just plain tasty. Our starters -- Marinated Olives (£4) & Chicken Skewers with lime & coconut yoghurt (£7) -- prepped our palates for richer courses to follow. Our side of Onion Rings (£5) was coated in a light, airy beer batter. To add to the festival of fried foods, I chose Fish & Chips (£19) as my main which had the same beer battered coating. Flakey cod paired well with the tangy tartar sauce. I only wish it was served with more traditional mushy peas instead of the one-noted crushed peas. BF also enjoyed his order; Filet (£37) was tender, flavorful, & well seasoned. For dessert, I had one of many Sticky Toffee Puddings (£7) ordered on our trip through Ireland & Scotland, as well as a Chocolate & Strawberry Eclair (£8) which I thought was the most creative dish of our meal. Modern ambiance & friendly service, though I think the staff were overwhelmed with catering to a larger party. May have to bring your patience, but at least the food is worth the wait.

It was recommended to us by 2 different Scots (Our tour guide in Skye and our hotelier in Glasgow), so it has quite a lot of credential from all over. (We found a spot upstairs. Our bartender was quite knowledgeable in the extensive collection and guided us to a good choice. That got us to a Duich Moss dram...heavily peated (just the way I like it) from Islay...a great choice for one of our last whiskeys in Scotland. If you like Scotch Whiskey, you can certainly get it any and everywhere in Scotland...but this place is a true Scotch lovers' destination...the selection is unrivaled, and you'll find yourself in a great, historic atmosphere to enjoy it. It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out
