I slipped in to the store, hoping not to draw attention to myself because let's be honest - I can't afford anything inside and was promptly greeted with warm hellos and smiles. This put me at ease. Browns aren't particularly modern - the setting isn't particularly sleek or sophisticated, it is quaint and modest. The attention is on the jewellery and the enormous precious stones that gleam out at you. Gold, silver, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds - I've seen them all here. The wares are truly phenomenal. Browns also do watch repairs and stock other pieces - not just rings. They just happen to be the thing that catches my eye.

Not once am I given the recorded "we are closed and opening hours are.....". So...onto their website, and again no opening hours. Feeling annoyed - just tried in the CBD during the week and all their nominated jewellers, plus their own boutique store - can't help me get a new leather watch strap as my other one broke. Oh - and the band width is 13mm which isn't standard, so I can't go into any normal watchmaker and just buy and ordinary strap. No, I have to trek up to Malvern Rd and hope they don't send to Switzerland for a replacement. Talk about planned obsolescence and making it difficult for the customer.
