My family returned to Montebello after 11 years, this time taking me with, and decided to go out to Kenauk Nature to again clay shoot. Note - I'm absolutely not a gun person, but eons ago as a Boy Scout did enjoy every year at summer camp the round of 10 shots with a rifle we were allocated, so I was game. Keep in mind, clay shooting is much different than the static paper target at my Boy Scout shooting range. Kenauk Nature offers rustic accommodations should you require them, plus a number of outdoor activities - clay shooting is only one of those options. After registering, the 2 hour session we booked took us to a remote facility, where the forrest air was noticeably refreshing. They provided all the necessary equipment. It started with a lot of safety training, with intro to firearm handling, provided by our two absolutely professional, expert guides that was certainly more than I remember from my scouting days... but absolutely essential. The session advanced from more simple shots to more complicated. Each of us clearly had a different skill level, with myself admittedly one of if not the least talented. Our experts really tried to guide and adjust the activity towards each of our abilities... or (smiling) my lack of. What I enjoyed most was the "Rolling Rabbit" which was a closer shot like a rabbit running in front of you. That being said, it was not just a fun thing to do, the outdoor location was sensational. Should I ever get back to Montebello, absolutely would check out the other outdoor activities at Kenauk Nature, like canoeing, fishing or the floating sauna!
