The most beautiful area in the Bridgend borough. Very well maintained, with the staff being very informative and friendly.

So worth it if you love wallabies and feeding animals. Also I have not known any other zoo/park that has a wallabie walkthroug. Manor House also has many experiences that you can pay additonal cost for by pre booking so I booked and paid for a VIP encounter with a tapir. They were lovely. I especially loved brushing them and tickling their bellies. So sweet. The keeper as well was a very lovely girl and very knowledgable. Wildlife Park is very clean and spacious. Highly recommend.

The park is under new ownership (since I last visited 30+ years ago), and everything is very clean and well presented. The walk around the park was just amazing and all the animals looked very happy and well-cared-for. Many of the animal habitats are accessible to people for petting or simply getting up close and personal. There are "wallaby-bites" available at the front entrance gate for feeding the wallabies. Many of the wallabies had their babies in their pouches and wouldn't come near, but they were so beautiful to watch! When we entered the Flemish rabbit area, one of the rabbits ran straight up to us for attention and petting :) I love that there are hand-washing stations with lots of signage at the exits to all animal habitats. It's a small park, in the middle of rural Wales, so the variety of animals is not the same as you'd find at a larger zoo, but my husband and I still had a wonderful time. The keepers were feeding the meerkats as we entered that area, and the keepers stayed and spoke with the crowd of people that had gathered to watch. It was clear that the animals in the park are treated with respect and great care by the keepers. My husband and I had an awesome time that day, well worth the admission price of 11.95 British pounds each.

You can walk all day in this forest admiring the lovely views without retracing your steps - and without meeting many other people either. There are some benches here and there and picnic tables down by the river. There are useful maps available in the visitor centre and there's a small shop for gifts in there too. I find the self service cafe very disappointing however as the menu (which hasn't changed for years) is extremely boring and unimaginative and the staff aren't friendly. There's almost nothing available for vegetarians either and nothing for vegans apart from the inevitable potato with boring old baked beans. Why on earth can't they even keep a box of veggie burgers in the freezer? So, to sum up: fantastic forest but poor cafe. UPDATE JAN 2009: Same old menu but when we asked, they found a tin of vegetable soup which was very nice. The lady who served us was friendlier this time. They had a delivery when we were there and I noticed that all the boxes contained pre-cooked baked potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and other ready-meals. So don't expect home cooking but it's not expensive so that's one good thing. It's somewhere warm to shelter from the freezing wind too.

Most notably, they advertise penguins on their brochure as a main attraction which one of our party was very much looking forward too and only came for the penguins but they all died a while ago. Great value tickets, nice little gift shop on the way out. They have such a wide range of animals for a fairly small space, all with wonderfully large enclosures, and all naturally managed - all the enclosures are as close as possible to their natural habitat, so the animals are happier and in better health. This can mean that they're hard to spot because they can be hiding in plant growth, but when you do see them they're so animated and fun to watch. Informative, educational and amusing talks are given by the keepers on the animals, there are various encounter sessions during the day where you get to hold some of the smaller animals, and reptiles and spiders and so on. The kids had a wonderful time, as did we, though we were surprised at how tired we were when we got back to the car - it's a deceptive space! Though on quite a small plot for a zoo, the paths and enclosures are arranged so that you get the impression you're walking round a much bigger place.

From chickens, goats and cows to prairie dogs, exotic birds and llamas, this farm has a great selection of usual and unusual animals. What makes this farm so much better is the option of feeding the animals. You can purchase animal food on the way for something like 30p and you can feed whichever animal takes your fancy. Although, if you drop any seed near the chickens they will follow you around like you're the Pied Piper. Situated in the Vale of Glamorgan, Warren Mill Farm is found in a peaceful, countryside setting. As well as the actual farm itself, they also offer fishing facilities for as little as £5 a day for adults and £3 for children. The four and a half acre lake contains a variety of fish, such as Carp, Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd and Perch. If you like wildlife this is a great place to come for a day out, but if you can't fit all the activities into one day, why not make the most of the bed and breakfast service and stay at the 17th Century farm house, with double room rates from £65. There is also the option of staying at the self-catered cottages, which have unusually been converted from old cow sheds (which are actually a lot nicer than I've made them sound). A great day out for the family or a good spot to do some quality fishing.
