    IchiBan - Ramen now available for takeaway!

    This review is about the new takeaway ramen in particular that Ichiban just started 2 weeks ago…read more 3 stars for the food but an extra star for the great service and consideration for the environment. We tried the tonkotsu pork belly ramen. It wasn't really Japanese style, and somehow the broth and the meat were very sweet. Not really how we like it. Was sugar added to the broth? We added spicy rayu to counteract the sweetness which remedied the taste but not the uneasy feeling of eating unnecessary sugar. It also didn't look like the photo in the advertisement (but I guess that's usually the case?). During pickup, the staff were very nice, and everything was packaged nicely and ready to go. Regarding consideration of the environment, they gave us actual bowls (and didn't ask for them back it seems?), which was a big plus in our eyes. We will reuse the bowls many times for ramen and other soup at home. The sushi was good, but we were surprised that the tuna maki had cooked tuna in it (from the can?) instead of raw. I think we didn't read the menu correctly so we will be more careful next time. The yakisoba was a good but not quite like the street food version at a festival in Japan. It was more like the package kind with a powdered sauce mix... Overall, the food was ok. We plan to get ramen one more time to give a second chance and try another one (maybe one of the chicken ramen options) and so we have a set of 4 bowls.

    We were overnight in Hannover and had to satiate our asian food cravings before returning to…read moreBavaria. After briefly combing Yelp for helpful reviews to make our decision, we came across Pho3mien; we were pretty sold based on the photos that others have taken of this place. In terms of location, the restaurant is located north of what one would consider the city center. It's a bit in the cuts, but definitely worth the walk. Whilst traveling on foot, I did not notice any parking garages/lots and only street parking for this restaurant. I also seem to recall that it was a one way street. So if you would want to come here, I suggest parking in the parking garage about 4 blocks away (if you're driving) and then walking the rest of the way. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Despite how the pictures looked, my expectations were still rather low. It is really a pan-Asian restaurant - the menu offered Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai cuisines. They also dabbled in dim sum. We came here for the Vietnamese food and that's exactly what we got. Compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in Germany, Pho3mien rates amongst the top 10. The variety that is found here is like none other that I've seen in other restaurants. Example, Pho Bo is usually the only pho variation served in Germany (some restaurants may offer Pho Ga). At Pho3mien, you can also find, Pho Tai (medium cooked meat), Pho Dac Biet (special), and Bun Bo Hue in terms of the soup noodle category. They also have coi guon, banh xeo, com bo luc lac, and vermicelli bowls as well. Tip: Che 7 Mau. My Asians will know this drink. Only restaurant I've found in Germany that serves this. The only other asian drink that will probably beat this is Boba (we have yet to find one of those). The food quality exceeded my expectations and it was a delight to dine here. Would definitely come here again if I'm stopping in Hanover.

It has about 6 tables that seat 4-8 people each. And the interior is pretty decent. Nothing too fancy, but not run down, tacky, or any of that. Just a chill place to enjoy some Vietnamese food. Service was very nice. We were seated with our menus (in German/Vietnamese) but they had some photos to help. If you use Google Translate on their webpage, it's a big help! And the menu is on there. Our Pho was very good! I would be sure to ask if something is spicy. I didn't realize mine would be, so I ended up switching with my husband...and he added even more chili (Which they serve on the side with lemon). The broth is awesome and you can tell they know what they are doing. Why 4 instead of 5 stars? Simply because it was quite good, but I try to keep my 5 stars for those WOW spots.

    Pork knuckles - Yum! Almost like smoked ham, but with the skin on and fried to a crispy crunch!…read more I mentioned to my German friend that I wanted to try the traditional pork knuckle in Hannover during my visit, and this is where she took me. Didn't disappoint! Our party of 4 ordered various dishes... I did the pork knuckle, 2 types of schnitzels, and steak ... and all were A-okay! Portions were on the larger side, and the prices seemed to be above average, but all everything tasted good! They also make craft beer, and the one I tried was A-okay! Not the most heart friendly meal, but what the heck, I don't visit Germany every month! Once is 30 years must be okay! ;) Lots of seating inside, and covered tables outside. We ate our lunch during the weekday and we could just walk up without any reservations. So a nice (very filling) experience for me!

We had to wait a few minutes but honestly we were sat very quickly. Our server was AWESOME!! She recommended several beers as well as dishes. It took us so long to finally decide because as we were scanning the menu, dishes were arriving all around us and we got distracted. Oktoberfest was a few days prior to our arrival but I opted for an Oktoberfest bier. I have to add that I'm not a huge beer drinker but I just had to. Everyone at our table ordered something different;
