We have used the Roland electric piano every single day for practice and have had zero issues (was bought used off of the floor). I would highly encourage people to support the few stores that keep product for demo use out on the floor. I want to thank Kennelly Keys Music for a great education. I walked in, asking for some G harmonica reeds for my Hohner (okay, I started out asking for G chords, which made me look stupid, but I forgave myself for that). Anyway they had some reeds, not G's, but they were over $23. So then I asked, well, do you have any G harmonica? I kept saying G. This is G, this is not G, this is, etc. There were sixpacks that had G as one, but I didn't want to spend that much. I wanted a G. Finally I found one that was acceptably cheap - $10. Hooray. I plucked it off the rack, and gave it to the clerk who I had been speaking with for 10 minutes about my G harmonica. He rang it up. Walking out, I took the harp out of the package and asked him to dispose of it. Outside, I walked about 15 feet and blew a few notes -- something wasn't right, I did't know what. Then I looked at the harmonica in my hand -- it had a nice label E. So you can say this is all my fault, and you would be right. I wanted a G, picked the E next to it by mistake and bought that. The clerk heard me say G about 30 times, but must have figured I'd changed my mine. But I hadn't. I'd just been careless. So I go back in side, with this harmonica that I'd blown maybe 10 breaths on, and the clerk says, sorry, we can't take it back once it has been used. He refused to even entertain a discount, but said he would gladly sell me a G. So here's where my education comes in. Some prefer the short gain of $10 over a possible longer gain of a repeated customer. Over a likely long term gain of a happy customer. Like I said, I messed up and grabbed the E, which was sitting next to the G that I'd wanted and had repeatedly asked for. So it's completely my fault that I'll never spend another dime there. I shop here very often. It's the only store in Bellevue where I can get my music books, guitar accessories, and violin accessories. The price is fine, and the service is fine. Sometimes I can find their coupons in coupon books, but most of time the price is as whatever the original manufacturers have suggested. Not cheap, but comparing to ordering online and paying shipping, it's not too bad. In general, I have nothing to complain. The only reason why I didn't give them 5stars is because most employees there may not be knowledgeable enough to explain their products. Once I was trying to buy Martin strings for my Martin guitar, the guy was trying to convince me to buy strings from a different brand. I asked him why, and he was unable to answer my question. I guess they probably get more commissions on certain products, which motivates them to encourage customers to purchase those products. Also, I didn't rent my violin here. I came here to inquire about violin rental, and realized that the guy who was helping me had no idea about violin. I didn't feel comfortable to rent there since I was not an expert of violin. I would prefer to rent from someone who knew violins well. As long as I know what I want to get, it's a place where I can find what I need for music. The location is convenient as well. read more

It was so nice to run into this shop. Ya, Guitar Center is getting pretty popular. But this place has instruments in place ready for purchase rather than online ordering. Ukuleles, violins, cellos, brass, and wood winds. I came in last minute to get my uke restrung and they did it on the spot. Staff is friendly to chat with about music and performing or pointing out other things to amplify your repertoire. They book selections for music are great too. They have the classical greats and popular pieces available. I've been going to the Bellevue Kennelly since I opened my music school in 2006. And Tyler has been there the whole time! Great store with lots of inventory and I love that they are about the only music store around that actually still carries-- get this--- music!! When you order music on amazon, you can't see inside the books so you have no idea what's in them. I send my students here all the time. I take my flute to this store for its annual maintenance (i.e. oiling of the pads, general adjustments, cleaning, etc.) It is very convenient as it is close to my high school so I can drop off and pick up my instrument with ease. The flute technician here is very professional. Additionally, the price is also very reasonable. I paid 85 for the service done on my flute, which was the hourly rate. The store employee I usually see when I come into the store, Lara (or maybe Laura), is very polite and kind. Recently rented a van-load of equipment from them. The rental prices were good, and the equipment was just what I needed. When I rented items that were not in their rental stock, they provided new equipment for no extra charge. I worked with three different members of the staff over the course of a few weeks. Each staff member displayed a level of courtesy and competence that I thought had disappeared from bricks-and-mortar retail. I get the sense from the vibe in the shop that most of them are passionate about music. There are a lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump through with the rental paperwork, but I blame that on customers before me who, I imagine, tried to take advantage of an honest business. read more

My SO and I came here to rent a ukulele for our wedding event and to inquire about renting microphones and PA systems. On our first two visits, Tyler was a tremendous star! We knew very little about ukuleles, and he knew everything about them. He patiently walked us through the different types of ukulele and the wood they're made out of, explained why some cost more than others, and demonstrated how each ukulele would sound. When we finally picked a ukulele, we couldn't decide if we wanted to purchase it at a discounted price or rent by the month. In the end, we opted to rent, but Tyler graciously said he would honor the discounted price if we changed our mind within two weeks. I stopped by Kennelly's again today to ask about renting microphones and PA systems. I needed three mics for the event, but my wedding coordinator can only provide two. I went in, again, not really knowing what I need besides a mic. This time, I was helped by a gentleman named John. He walked me through what a PA system consists of, and made sure I knew what I must already have if I were to solely rent a mic through them (e.g. a speaker and a mixer that can take at least 3 microphones; cables and mic stand already included in rental). He also showed me the instrument microphone and vocal microphone, and asked which one I would need. I told him I honestly don't know what the venue's PA system consists of, so I don't know if I only need to rent a mic, or a whole mini PA system. I told him I won't find out until the day before my event when I go over for a sound check, and he said he would set aside the two microphones for me at no charge, just in case I need them last minute! Rented a flute for my daughter 3 years ago. Yesterday, walked into Music & Arts in Bothell, WA to rent a trumpet for my son. Not only did I pay 1/3 up front as I did through Kennelly but the terms were much better, the service and courtesy was superb and it came with EVERYTHING! (Music book school requires, cleaning kit and even a music stand which I needed to purchase separately through Kennelly a few years ago) They may be a big name in the area and recommended by most districts but that should change. The selection of items is a little bit small, but that's not surprising given the size of the shop in general. I went for a piano bench with a flip-top lid. They only had one left in the store, and it was open box. They gave me a small discount for it, which I was pretty happy about. -2 stars because i felt a little bit weirded out by the level of 'security'. They asked for my ID and even scanned it into their system. They were able to pull up some other unrelated personal information. You walk in and they're either talking amongst themselves and ignoring everyone, or playing guitar and ignoring customers. The store itself is a huge mess. There is way too much stuff and you can't walk through the store. I would hate to have a wheelchair and need something out of this company's store. If you're looking for a violin, don't shop here. The violins are out of tune and they don't give you the best equipment to play (bad bow and no shoulder rest). I brought in my Besson silver euphonium into the Bellevue store for a very badly needed cleaning service and was told it might take a while as they are buried in school instruments. As my concert season was over I left it anyway. Instead it was ready in four days. This EBay sourced 40 + year old grungy looking horn came back looking and playing great. Shiny with dents gone and under the original estimate. Even the small details I forgot too mention were fixed to perfection. I have been having horns repaired since the 1970's and this is the best result I have ever seen. I will be very proud to play this horn now! As I approached, one of them looked at me with a very creepy look like he was going to physically attack me. This guy was disturbing. Very different from the usual friendly guys there, this guy was older looking and definitely way more creepy. Like a terrifying camp counselor kind of creep vibe.
