No lean back, recliner, vibrating chairs, with food service served to you. No it is just a plain small theatre with one popcorn machine, a few concessions people, some candy for sale, a nice somewhat elaborate coffee barista area, and a few select movies showing. I love the quaintness of this theatre. I loved the quirky decor. And I really enjoyed their coffee as well. I came here during the winter when they were showing It's a Wonderful Life. Not only was it was my first time here at the this theatre, it was also my first time seeing this movie. Prior to the showing, a worker stood in front of the theatre to address the crowd with beautiful facts about the movie and Jimmy Stewart. It is an annual event, so if you are curious this is a great way to spend an afternoon. They also have a soap machine making what represents "Snow" outside as you enter the establishment. People also came dressed up in fun winter and Christmas gear. I highly recommend this being done at least once. And if not for this annual showing, any fun date.

I could just sit and talk story with strangers about cinema for hours. Wish I could travel to NOLA every month just to watch movies at the Prytania. Roads between here and there were easy to find and navigate. Once here, parking was easy as there were spots in their designated lot as well as out front. There were several handicap spots available as well. The building itself is beautiful inside and there is a cafeteria and theater. The theater was gorgeous and had seating for over 100 patrons. I am excited to bring my daughter back for a showing now that I know that this planetarium is here!

Home of the Krewe of Red Beans! You can book a tour to learn a bit about the Krewe's history, and of course, a bit about beans. They also have live music and community events you can drop into. There's a dedicated playspace for kids, though kiddos can actually run around safely throughout the space, including the wrap-around garden. If you're a local or frequent visitor to the city, consider becoming a member. (That's what I did!) They have a pay-what-you-like, pay-what-you-can membership fee with a super low minimum that gives you free access to the space, including most events (excluding fundraisers, because they're fundraisers). They do serve food, but there's no menu. Just a plate of the day, which can vary from simply rice and beans or fried chicken or even jerk lamb chops! The bar serves beer and wine, but in order to keep the space kid-friendly while playing live music, they can only serve alcohol with food purchase. Plates vary from $15 to pay-what-you-can. Yup! And food is bomb! It's a music venue! It's a community space! It's a social club! It's an event space! It's a museum! It's a truly magical place!

One of my favorite art genres is southern art and folk art, so I wanted to swing by Ogden. They have very little traditional art, for which I am grateful. I like things that are a little quirky or moody or have something to say. They have four floors of exhibits (one floor is offices only). I saw some great art focusing on the Black experience in the south as well as music and jazz. They had a couple wonderful photo exhibitions as well, one focusing on jazz legends and another showing never before seen photos from their collection that, of course, focused on the culture of the south. Was 15 dollars a ticket, which is well worth it. We probably spent about 90 minutes here, though you could spend longer if you wanted to read every single plaque. Some of the plaques were a little wordy, but covered the topics well. Staff was polite and helpful. This is right next to the WWII museum, which is a WONDERFUL museum and the most attended attraction in NOLA. I would say you could swing by Ogden before or after that museum, but that might be a little much given the pure expanse of the WWII venue. As another yelper said, Ogden is not an essential stop when in New Orleans, but I would definitely recommend it at least once to see what southern art is all about. You'd likely be surprised at the diversity and talent on display.

There were many movies, artifacts, and photographs that the story of Jewish culture, business, food, entertainment, farming, religion, education and rights of passage in the southern states. The Fortunate unfortunate exhibit told the story of life in a New Orleans orphanage; it was well detailed & upbeat. There were many interactive exhibits that were well presented. There was a small gift shop when we went inside, they were beautiful, artistic mrs. Susan that were encased like fancy chocolates. Eleanor took a group of us to the succah on the rooftop, & she shared was information about social activities here.

The museum presents the colonial experience by focusing on immigration, work, cultural traditions and religion. Throughout the 1800's New Orleans was a major port of entry for German immigrants with many of them continuing on their journey into Texas or the mid-west. As the tide of German immigration continued by 1850 New Orleans had more residents of German ancestry than French ancestry which is reflected in the current population today with Americans of German ancestry being the largest group of all Americans with European immigrant ancestry. The German American Cultural Center and Museum also sponsors fun events on their grounds with Oktoberfest and Maifest being popular celebrations that feature bier gartens. The German American Cultural Center and Museum also provides a genealogy and research room that includes church records, computer research tools and many other research materials. I enjoyed seeing all of the pictures and watching the videos. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. They have a lot of resources to help your genealogy research. The gentleman working had some good information. I am glad I came in. If you happen to have a few minutes, I recommend stopping in and walking around a bit.

This is such a unique exhibit and I had no idea it even existed until a week ago!…read more So, a friend of mine suggested that we go and check this out, since it is right in Algiers and it's only going to be there for a limited time. We went this past weekend and it's so cool. It's a former apartment complex that was originally called De Gaulle Manor. I won't bore you with the history of the place, but you can read all about it on the Exhibit Be website. A group of artists came in and decided to make this a large art exhibit and using spray paint, they transformed a once dilapidated apartment complex into an urban work of art. There is a lot of powerful artwork on display here and the talent that is exhibited is incredible. Unfortunately, the exhibit is only for a limited time. The last weekend to go see it is January 17th-19th and after that the entire complex is going to be demolished. In my opinion this is a "can't miss" type of experience. I enjoyed it so much when I went last weekend, that I plan to go again this weekend for the grand closing. It's a great group of people who are out there and everyone is just happy and having a good time and enjoying the same art experience. Check it out, before it's too late.
