I have been going back-and-forth (for more than a year now) with Dr. Maybury and his office over an erroneous charge for "out-of-network". I have healthcare coverage and should have been charged "in-network"... Yet, his office can't seem to fix it. Super frustrating. Please know that I am not being overly dramatic here, but Dr. Maybury literally saved my life. As part of my annual physical and blood work, he noticed that my PSA was 6.0. (My uncle died of prosate cancer and his PSA was 26, so I figured 6 was "low". But what he saw was a bad trend over the past 2 years and strongly recommended I get a biopsy of my prostate. Well - turns out I have prostate cancer with an aggressive tumor (Gleason score of 9 out of 10). He referred me to Dr. Peter Carroll at UCSF, one of the best urologists in the country. He told me it appears we caught it early (thanks Dr. Maybury). I had surgery in March 2025 and thank God, it has been successful. So - I could not be happier with him as my doctor. read more

My physician of over 30 years retired and sent my files to Dr. Maybury. After trying to call for an appointment. The phone kept ringing. (No roll over to voicemail.) I persistently called back & finally got Jasmine to answer. She seemed nice. My wife & I were able to make an appointment. I was running low on my medication & Jasmine said, "she would take care of it." (The appointment was two weeks away.) I checked with our pharmacy & nothing was ordered. So, I waited a few days. Still nothing. I was able to get enough medicine from the pharmacy for a few weeks. We showed up for our appointments to meet Dr. Maybury. I paid for my wife & my co-pays. The next day, I looked at our receipts & for my wife, I was given a receipt with someone else's name on it. No big deal. Right? We called Jasmine & she told us, "The printer made a mistake." Really? She said, she credited my wife's account. So, we thought the issue was over. A few weeks later, we received a bill from their billing service. We called Jasmine back & she said,"she would take care of it." Another billing cycle passed & we received another bill. My wife spoke with Shea in the office. Shea said,"she would call the billing office and tell them it was paid & call us to let us know." Never called us back. So, after calling & being put on hold & cut off for thirty minutes, we spoke to Shea. Shea informed us that the billing department will take care of the issue within 30 days. (The jury is still out on that one.) Now, back to our first visit. I met Jasmine & asked above my prescriptions she was going to order. Some lady behind her said,"They don't do that!" I asked her, "Did you ever think about letting me (your patient) know?" No response. (Waiting on a pair of shoes is one thing. Waiting on my medication is another.) I was then rushed into a room where the nurse took my height and weight. She hit me in the head the bar while getting my height. Completely rushed & rude. Dr. Maybury finally came in & he seemed like a good doctor. Personable. The situation reminds me of Dr. Maybury being a chef in a four star restaurant & you're trying to get a table. Only you can't make the reservation because the staff is too unorganized & completely incompetent. In my business & personal experience, I've had interactions with every type of medical practice. This is by far the worst I have ever experienced. If you're a glutton for punishment, give them a call. read more

Maybe Dr Olga got such satisfactory service is due to the 'Dr.' designation. I left this practice a few years ago, offended and disgusted. I had 3 questions, none complicated or time consuming. After about 8-10 min, he said 'I do have other patients you know'. So insulting and unnecessary. I also had the same experience as another regarding a so called checkup. He had me put a gown on.... But why? No need- he looked at ears, mouth, listened to heart, no palpating abdomen, no basic skin check. Maybe he works by osmosis... the following year, a melanoma was discovered on my leg, luckily early. And luckily by then I'd changed doctors. Mostly, after an initial positive feeling, I got turned off by his insulting and at times downright odd behavior. read more

Dr. Maybury has the calm air of a competent physician and he's pretty good at acting like he listening, but his actions indicate that it's nothing more than that. Each time I saw him I felt like I was a new patient. When I reminded him of something he would finally look at his computer to review my medical records while I was in the exam room. He should at least review them prior to seeing me. I was his patient for several years. I had to choose a new doctor because my previous doctor retired. Each year I would ask him if he had my previous medical records. He always said there was some kind of problem. After several years I finally gave up asking. Each time he examined me he just listened to my lungs and heart with his stethoscope and looked at my ears and inside my mouth. I don't know why he bothers to have you change into an exam gown. I could have had bruises or suspicious moles and he would never know. The front desk staff is a chaotic and a revolving door. They wouldn't return calls and there always seemed to be a problem with miscommunication. Dr. Maybury insists you have blood work at Lab Corp, outside of the hospital. He claims it's because the hospital lab frequently makes errors, but if it were more convenient for me and if I was willing to take that risk, he would request blood work from the hospital. I wasn't willing to take the risk, so I made another appointment with Lab Corp. Knowing that Dr. Maybury is forgetful and that that front desk is chaotic, I asked the lab to verify the blood work requested. Sure enough, they had forgotten to add a blood panel I finally changed doctors. The doctor ordered an ultrasound. Turns out that lump on the side of neck is a solid thyroid nodule. Two, in fact. One couldn't be felt. Oh, and his office will send you your medical records a fee of $50.00. It's been nearly a year since Dr. Maybury has been my doctor so why did it take me such a long time to write a review? It's because he had the audacity to send me a letter requesting an "optional" $250.00 *ANNUAL* practice fee citing San Francisco's "skyrocketing" rising office rents, payroll and insurance cost for his support staff. The icing on the cake is that I haven't been is patient in months! read more

A member of our family contacted his office out of a genuine public safety concern for our elderly parent (who is one his current patients), and rather than independently raising the concern with our parent, the doctor told our parent that a family member had called his office to raise the concern. My experience with Maybury was not good. He' seems like a good doctor when you're healthy but once you're not you realize he's not at all helpful. He's looking for quantity of patients vs. being a quality doctor. The staff turnover is high which tells you something. read more

Dr. Maybury was the worst Dr in my Life so I got a new wonderful Doctor now. Christine is working for Dr. Maybury very very rude and trouble attitude. Every time you call their office, she says" I am busy or a lot things to do". She does not help at all and she yelled at me many times. I told Dr. Maybury , he said I have to protect her. He does not care about patients. One time I needed disability form from them. They said I have to pay extra for the form, I do not know why my insurance does not pay it but anyway I did pay $99. They charged me right away but they did not send me the form for a month. Every time I call them, she yelled at me and said buy or tell the doctor. Every time if you need something from them, it will take weeks and weeks to get. Also very hard to get them on the phone. If you are really sick, please do not waste your time with them! read more

I have withheld this review for years, and have decided to post it as a community service. Thanks for the opportunity Yelp. First: after experiencing painful, disfiguring arthritis for a couple years, a family member recommended celiac tests. Lots of people in my immediate family have celiac disease, though with more "classic" symptoms (GI distress, wasting, the kids failing to develop appropriately, etc). Informed by well-done research that described celiac disease with arthritic symptoms, I went to Dr. Maybury asking for celiac testing. He not only refused, but also refused to consider the medical research I had downloaded from PubMed. "I don't need to read that," he said. Guess what? I soon after tested positive for all the celiac tests. Symptoms were gone soon after I stopped eating gluten. Second: I had a "genitourinary" problem. Back to Maybury's office, where I undressed from the waist down as told. Not a pleasant thing in the best of circumstances, but I trusted I would get an appropriate exam and treatment. Did I? Nope. Maybury's "exam" consisted of standing well past the end of the exam table, followed by no diagnosis or treatment for a clearly identifiable problem. I left, and went to another medical office where I received an appropriate exam, diagnosis, and much needed treatment. Is Dr. Maybury smug? Disinterested? Negligent? Homophobic? The reader can decide. There are lots of bad doctors in the City, and also lots of good ones. I'm glad I left Maybury and found some good ones. read more

He has been my doctor for over 5 years. But now a days, he has got too busy. I don't think he can handle the patient load anymore. Getting an appointment is a nightmare. The person answering the phone is awful, and will put you on hold for 5 minutes, before the line getting disconnected. This happened to me thrice today. I needed to see the doc urgently. Finally the doc returned my call and all he said is - please go to urgent care. I have no appointments today ! I think it's time for me to find another doctor who is more accessible. read more

I came here twice for general checkups and blood work, and everything seemed great. Then a few months later, I came in to address some injuries I had from an accident. I made an appointment and showed up on time. But then, the front desk refused to run my insurance card when I handed it to them. They told me that they absolutely did not take my insurance (though they'd taken it twice before, and there had been zero issues with billing). I was confused, and went home to call my insurance. Long story - short: They do take my insurance. They misidentified my plan by just looking at the wrong info on my card. They never ran my ID or Group number. It took me days to get them to even speak with Health Net, as I couldn't get anyone in the office be accountable for verifying my insurance. Not the front desk, not their remote billing office that closes early. They were completely uncooperative. It was just really unprofessional and discouraging behavior to deal with when you are in pain with physical injuries, and you're a returning patient whose insurance has worked fine within the last year. After they realized their error, they were completely unapologetic, and the Dr. wouldn't even hear me out when I tried to inform him about my experience with the front office. He insisted it was my responsibility to know my insurance, not his staff's. Well what more can I do? If you refuse my valid insurance, how in the world is that my error? You're also refusing to check. I'm in the right place with the right insurance! I decided to bail and seek help elsewhere. Too many red flags. It was awful, awful treatment. I didn't see that coming from my first 2 visits there, but it was really insulting and humiliating treatment. read more

I have called and left messages for Dr. Maybury's staff for the past MONTH and no one has ever returned my calls. I have now mailed a letter to him and will revise my review IF I finally get someone to respond and assign an appointment date. Very wary of the unprofessional staff support. Dr. Maybury is a great doctor -- I would absolutely recommend the practice from that perspective. Highly knowledgeable, competent, friendly, etc. He also is using an electronic health record system which gives you direct access to your own medical records, which is great. (They don't support email or messaging, unfortunately.) Parking and driving around the office is a little tough, but not a big deal. However, if you have any insurance related issues, billing is open from 9am to 3pm by phone (only). I ended up being billed for what was a "preventive care visit" as an "office visit", which meant 0% vs. 100% coverage. I contacted my insurer twice (who do take email), and received inconsistent information from the billing provider. It's only $190, but on principle, I hate being charged for something incorrectly. Wasting another hour of my time between insurer and finding the billing number and calling makes it more like $400. read more

After years of unsuccessfully searching for the right doctor, I managed to stumble upon Dr. Maybury. My new insurance provider's disorganized directory actually proved in my benefit. It was my first time seeing him, and he managed to squeeze me in on the same day. The staff was very friendly and professional. Dr. Maybury very professional, knowledgeable, approachable, gave advice without placing judgment, and he took the time to listen and to explain everything to me and didn't rush me. Most importantly, he didn't treat me like I had the plague when I was coughing up a lung. Easy location on Shrader and Fulton, quiet building, decent street parking (2 hour) nearby. read more

Dr. Kenneth Maybury. I really have the worst experience at this office. First appointment was at 3:30pm but doctor saw me at 4:45pm. He sent me for a blood test and didn't sent the order to the laboratory. He was on vacation and his staff weren't available to send the order for my blood test. Second round to the test blood facility. After a was told the order was send from the doctors office. No order was placed yet. I called Dr kenneth office again. Finally they sent the order. Second appointment to see doctor kenneth was scheduled at 3:30pm. I arrived at 3:30pm The receptionist told me I was late and wasn't able to register me to see the doctor. This is awful!! After all the hassle I had to deal with since my firs appointment. But yes they still charge me $50.00 for penalty for no show?!?! My name is Hector yedra and of this doctor is a little ashamed of the way he and his staff treated me. At least they should wave the 50 dollars for penalty. Today was my first visit to Dr. Maybury's office, and I called just this morning for an appoinment. I've never had a doctor that was so easy to talk to and willing to answer all of my questions, I felt like I had his complete attention the entire time. I'd also like to note that his receptionist Angelee (forgive me if the spelling is incorrect), and his attending nurse were extremely nice and helpful as well. The doctor is a nice guy and very smart. However, I've had too many "mishaps" with communicating with the front-desk staff. There seems to be a revolving door, over four years that I have been going to the doctor I have seen three to four "new" and different front desk people. When I told the doctor this (on separate occasions) he said that it is "new staff". Also, I can understand a doctor being 5-15 minutes late for an appointment. But I had to wait 1 hour! My time is also valuable. Sadly, even though I personally like Dr. Maybury, the level of costumer service here is unacceptable to me. Update- 11.08.2018. I switched doctors, then got a call today from the Maybury office saying that they would only send my medical records after I paid $25. Doctor Ken is so great, first time i saw him he got me in right away (most doc's you wait weeks) he really listened to what i had to say and he prescribed a course of action that i felt was really thorough and well thougth out. He left it open for a followup if the situation persisted but if it resolved itself i was good to go, which was great i didn't feel like he was trying to pump me for $$$ for unnecessary visits. Second time i saw him months later, same thing, really conscious doctor with an amazing bed side manner that tells me he really cares about his patients and loves what he does. Dr M is absolutely worth my time battling traffic from hayward, hunting down parking, getting a parking citation (yes, that happened today). He is such an awesome doctor. What I appreciate about him is that he is very thorough and he actually reviews his notes to recall what has happened in your previous visits etc. He never rushes with your appointment and makes sure that all your concerns and questions are addressed. His staff are equally great. I love Angelique, she always has a pleasant disposition and the new nurse is great and friendly too. Why else would I want to look for another near my place? Dr. Maybury is the ideal doctor: deeply knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He sees my elderly parents and is GREAT with them and all their complicated stuff. And with me, he is very engaged and proactive about my physical exams, moles, labs and all the wellness stuff. He doesn't give me short shrift just because I'm really healthy. He asked about my caffeine intake (too high! maybe it's partly what's making me anxiousness), whether I'm vaping (no way), exercising, etc. My mom says his new staff are the best.
