Kensington is a living, dynamic church that changes to keep current 20-45 year olds in view. The help the community around them, they bring kids in from Pontiac for dance & acting classes. They had out Thanksgiving baskets and run to raise money for the Hope water Project, bringing wells to the nomadic tribe of the Pokot in Northern Kenya. Messages are relevant to what's happening NOW in the world. It's a weird world. Pastors at all campuses give messages on the same topic but have their own stories & memories to draw on. KCC is contemporary but sticks to the Bible. From the babies on up to the older people, they fully serve & show kindness. read more

Kensington Church is very beautiful, and the people are very friendly and nice. My family stopped going there because we do not agree with having female pastors. It is not biblical. Also, their sermons are presented by different pastors every week, so there is a definite lack of continuity it discouraged a feeling of community. In fact, one of the pastors reminded us of a stand up comedian testing his routine. The sermons while heartfelt are sugar coated in order to not offend. The singing/ worship is truly beautiful, with lovely singers. We truly respect the efforts of the staff who do an excellent job of making people feel welcome, but, we were looking for a church that provides sound biblical teaching even if it can be tough sometimes. Since moving to Michigan 6 years ago I had been on the hunt for a church that felt like a good fit. I'm happy to say I've found that at Kensington. I leave every service feeling fulfilled,welcomed, and educated. I live the music here, it really makes you connect to the message and it certainly doesn't put you to sleep like some of the more traditional churches. Everyone has their preferences. And for many, traditional is theirs. However, I have found a church that works for me. I believe church can be spiritual, educational, motivating, and fun! After going to my second service here I paid more attention to detail in the message and noticed... There is not ONE cross in the whole inside or outside of the building and that is a little disturbing to me. Also, no Christian music all main stream pop, today including Katie Perry which I thought was very odd. I also noticed they were persistent on money. I grew up going to a Catholic church with my parents every Sunday. I remember from a young age that the second mass was over for the week, I would already dread returning the next week. When I was a teenager, my parents got divorced after many years of trying to make their marriage work and basically staying together for my brother and I. It was the best thing they could have done for our family and we were all much happier once the decision was made. However, the Catholic church that we had been attending weekly for the last ten years (and generously donating to on a weekly basis) politely told my mom that we were no longer welcome at their establishment That's when my mom decided to take my brother and I to Kensington, which was a new church at the time. I remember even at 14 that I immediately felt welcome and like I fit in. They have a band (not typical church music) playing at the beginning of the services and sometimes do skits and show videos relating to that week's message. The pastors are amazing and do a great job getting the message through while keeping the attention of their audience. I have found myself crying like a baby (trying to hold it in of course) because I can really relate to what they are talking about. They do some reading from the bible like any church, but also make the Bible's messages relatable to current times and the struggles that people are facing. Kensington sometimes describes themselves as a place for people who have been turned off-or turned away from traditional churches. You are encouraged to "come as you are", jeans are perfectly acceptable, although many people dress up as well. When they take their offering each week, they clearly say that if you are a visitor, don't be obligated to get your wallet out. Very different from the Catholic church who can act as a debt collector! Now as an adult with a two year old, I actually look forward to going to church! My daughter absolutely loves the childcare there and has learned many new things there. When we pull into the parking lot on Sundays, she squeals with excitement to go see her "friends" and play with the toys at the daycare. I would (and already have) recommended Kensington to many people. I can't think of a better place to bring my family to every week. read more

What a great fit for my family! We love the services, the vibe, the music, the way we are all able to worship. This is a Christian church with a modern flair and the ability to leave you bouncing to the music on your way out after feeling spiritually fulfilled and ready to face the world. If you're looking to stand up, kneel down, pray-pray-pray, this might not be the fit for you. But if you're like me, a sinner looking to repent, someone who hasn't been the perfect picture of a Christian, with baggage and damage and flaws...this is an awesome place to worship. There is so much love in this building. Love for each other, love for the children, love for the world. It's big enough to do awesome work in the name of Christ Jesus but small enough where you will still learn peoples names. This is our home, and I hope you may make it yours too. read more

COUPLES WHO LIVE TOGETHER AND ARE NOT MARRIED STEER CLEAR! And here is why.... My fiancé and I decided to give Kensington Church a try, as I moved from my home into my fiancés home in order to save for our wedding, resulting in an hour drive to my previous church. After attending the Clinton Township Campus for a few months we decided to call Kensington our "home." My fiancé met with the lead pastor to introduce himself, explore how he/we could serve God within the Kensington Church, and inquired about having the pastor marry us next summer. The pastor was excited to have new members become a part of the Kensington family and agreed to marry us in July, but 1st we had to meet with the Care Director of the Church and complete an intake form and pre-martial counseling, no big deal, we were excited to begin our journey. Then we met the Care Director from the Troy Campus, Chris Cook... In the beginning, our meeting was going great! And then the question of being sexually active popped up, which we were open and honest and explained that we reside together in order to save for our wedding. He immediately responded with "you two can continue with the pre-marital counseling, but we will not be at the wedding." I asked him to clarify, in which he stated that because we live together, we were living in sin and the "Kensington Brand Name" would not represent our marriage. He began stating that "statistically" our marriage has a 50% chance of failing because we were living together before marriage. By this time, I was visibly upset and defensive by his judgement on our relationship. He turned to me and said "you look like you want to bite your face off," which I immediately informed him that I wanted to "bite his face off." By that time, Chris Cook began making vague and unrelated movie references, while he continue to tell us the way we were living is not honoring God and making us feel as though our relationship was sin and unworthy of God's blessings and a Kensington Pastor. Chris cook then went on to say "give me 4 weeks to convince you that living apart is more honorable in the eyes of Jesus." We informed him the it was not possible to move apart, as we are not financially able to do so. He then presented "door #2." Chris Cook stated that we could get married by a Kensington Pastor "today," but we would 1st have to take a test, go to pre-martial counseling, and our test would be reviewed by Chris Cook himself and "HE" would determine if we could marry one another in the Kensington Church. Due to the tension and time spent in his office (2.5 hours), we agreed to look into the info. Chris cook then emailed us an information packet. Once we received and read the packet emailed to us, I couldn't help notice that in order to start the 4 week process with Chris Cook, we had to pay for the test, pre-marital counseling, and the reading of the results of the test, which then Chris Cook would determine if my fiancé and I could marry one another. We felt that this was a money grab, just so he could tell us at the end of the 4 weeks that a Kensington pastor couldn't marry us. Like my fiancé stated, Kensington Church is not a church of God, it is a business, and the people running it are not servants of our Lord, but salesmen. Frankly, we don't want to be affiliated with a church that judges our relationship status based on our financial decision. To all thinking about attending or those who are currently attending, do you research and get to know those running the "Kensington Brand," before you end up in a situation where you feel that you are unworthy of Gods love and blessings. To those who run the "Kensington Brand," you should be ashamed of yourselves for identifying as being open to all and calling yourselves "non-denominational." The "Kensington Brand" should vet their paid "servants" like they vet their volunteers. I pray for Chris Cook to find his way and heal his heart and soul. read more

I visited Kensington for the first time today. I have been to many many churches and have never experienced one quite like this. Am I at church or a rock concert? I guess if you aren't there for a really deep message, it's pretty entertaining. I felt like was more designed for people who aren't looking for a deep spiritual message. There are definitely places that are "too much church" and others that are "too little." For me, Kensington was too little church. The people there seem really nice though. read more

Ive been attending Kensington's Troy campus since last October.Thier typical service is 45 minutes of multi media presentation,new age chrstian music,and 15-20 minutes of sermon.Very little scripture and what lines they lift out of the Bible are taken out of context and twisted to align with the message they want you get. To many people who attend this is great.Little scripture,no guilt or thought involved.Just be sure and put something in the collection bag and enjoy your day.Ill agree with Jocelyn M.'s review just "too little church" for my spirtual needs. This is the 4th mega church Ive attended and each and everyone seems to be more involved with making money then real spiritual guidence.Ill be returning to the Lutheran church starting tomorrow. Authentic people. Fantastic speaking pastors. Wonderful youth programs. There is nothing here not to love. We only wish we had a satellite closer to us but it's worth the drive. We often watch services online when we can't make the drive. I always feel like I get something out of every service and I often refer people to this church. It's very casual and welcoming to all. It's a big big church but it doesn't feel like your anonymous. I really can't say enough nice things. read more

I have attended Kensington off and on since 2010 but more heavily in the past year. I come from a traditional Roman Catholic background and the services through my whole life were 45 minutes of repeated acts week after week and 10 to 15 minutes of learning of Christs teaching with a little interjection of relating things to present day. This church spends 90% of the service taking passages and relating them to every day life and teaching us how to be a better person in God's eye and our fellow man. It has made a revolutionary change in my daughter. She is involved with all the youth groups and participates in many of the events. Dave Wilson is passionate about his work and all the people who speak have brought a really great message each and every time. I am still getting use to all the music which may be a bit over the top for me coming from a traditional religious setting. It seems like the last 10 minutes is all music and to cut that in half and spend a little more time on a spoken topic instead of all the music production would be welcome but its doesn't take away a ton from the service. I hope to be able to dive deeper into the programs they have. read more

I have heard Kensington announce what their target audience is, and that's the 35 year old unchurched male. Makes sense to me, as I used to be one of those so called unchurched males. That's where I found Jesus. As far as more depth from a stage perspective (pastoral teachings), Wednesday nights go deeper than weekends, as weekends appear to be more "family" oriented. As far as how deep is Kensington overall? Kensington goes as deep as you want it. With groups for character matrices, strength finders. Biblical tough questions, the story of the Bible, and many other group (large or small) options. Kensington is rich with choices. So, in closing, even though their weekend services are geared for the unchurched or new believer, there are still many options available for those who are seeking more. read more

My child visited the Clinton Twp location with a family member last month. After coming home that Monday I noticed a change in his behavior. I asked what was wrong and he told me of inappropriate play with him by a male music teacher. I will speak to the pastor about this and possibly the authorities. read more

Fantastic! I've attended many churches in my 56 years, Kensington is by far the most innovative and effective on getting younger generations involved with church, the Bible and Christ. Their kids program is so appealing to the kids (of all ages) they actually want to go to church every week! I was first invited to the Troy campus by a couple of friends after searching for a few years to find a Denominational church that didn't just go through the stereotypical steps of worship only to be hounded for your required offering. After attending my first service I was hooked, Their approach is modern and yes they do play some main stream music mixed with current Christian music, but if you actually listen to the words and apply them to the sermon you'll see how they usually match the lesson. I believe many young people have found Jesus because of Kensington's approach. The Pastors actually go out of their way to let you know you do not have to participate in the offering (don't know where these negative reviews came up with how Kensington is "persistent" on money?). If you need the discipline, structure and routine of a typical church Kensington is probably not a good fit, but if you want an active, warm, currently relative experience try Kensington. Remember how Jesus taught, it was currently relative to the time, he did not follow the way of the Pharisees. read more

Nice church with wonderful people. However, the Left has gotten to the American culture so efectively, it has now infiltrated the American Church. I signed my child up for the childrens music program called K Rock, the program included a "cultural" lesson at the outset of every class. One of the lessons was given by a college student who talked to the children about Palestine and Israel. I made it a point to listen, the college student was unbelievably misinformed in her subject matter and none of the parent assistants were the wiser. The college student made a moral equivalence between Israel and Palestine and by the end of the class draped one of the students in a Palestine flag. Btw; the head pastor has shown quite a bit of favoritism towards Palestine. Great place though read more

I attended a local Lutheran church as a kid and it was always painful. I had to dress up, sit still and I didn't understanding anything they were saying. When my kid is skipping from the parking lot into the church, I know it is the right place for my family. In the just short 3 years we have been attending we have attended services at Troy, Orion, and Clarkston and have been helped by, or served, in a dozen branches of Kensington. For example, Man-up (men's retreat 900 guys), Smash (women's retreat 1000 women), KKids (kids programming during service), KRock (musical and theatre youth group), Breakaway (middle school) and Edge (Highschool) Youth Ministries, Celebrate Recovery, Small Groups, Insights (Women Bible Study), Thanksgiving basket delivery, DIGS (mens bible study), etc. They have something for everyone (i.e. Field and Stream, a mechanics group, grief share, divorce recovery, 18/29 year old program, etc. It is so worth a try. read more

I knew of Kensington for a long time but didn't feel the need to check it out, I have been on a spiritual journey off and on for years but never really engaged in it. I was in the Catholic church for 25 years and didn't find it relevant to my life. In the spring of this year I saw a friend posting a service project to help someone fix their house on Facebook. I said to myself "I can do this". I showed up and met some amazing people and helped this person. It was the first day of my new life. I was invited to service at Clinton Township the next day. I love it. It feels like the message is always speaking to me. You need to jump in and take their classes and serve. I belong to a great small group and have amassed so many friends. The church does not feel that large anymore. My life is transforming all the time learning to have a relationship with God. There is no pressure for money when your new. The leaders of the church are so respectful of everyone. read more
