Coach Jongsanan and staff (Six, Max, etc) have a true passion for Muay Thai that shines through in their teachings and high engagement levels. They truly care about their students' progress. The team does an excellent job of keeping the equipment clean and the environment uplifting / positive. If feels good to be part of a community that cares so much about its tribe. Woodenman also does a great job of embodying the spirit and attitude of Thai culture -- friendly, professional, welcoming, and spiritual. What I find most impressive is that even the most badass fighters here are super friendly and approachable. When I started, I couldn't punch my way out of a paper bag.... after coming for a few months I'm a lot more confident and my strikes are stronger and more effective, much of that is due to the work and encouragement of the coach(es) and advanced fighters. Equally impressive is the squad of female fighters. They're impressive and dangerously good yet very chill and welcoming. If you're a female and new to martial arts, this is the place to start. I've seen a few of the women students go from fresh-eyed to confident students in the matter of weeks. Overall, this is the best Muay Thai gym in San Francisco, hands down. If you don't leave happier than when you came in, DM me and I'll cover your lesson haha.

I asked him for his help with billing at the front desk, he was extremely rude to me, when I called him out on it...he made up a lie that -" I slammed my hand on the table and caused a scene"...and then I just walked away after the scene and just went and did a class.....in a room with 40 people ... no one else saw this. The people they have running this place .... Genuinely sad...they will lie on people of color blatantly.

Classes are well run and open to all levels, from beginners to experienced fighters. The atmosphere is welcoming, focused, and respectful. I've trained with Kru Sam for over 20 years. He has proven to be one of the best Muay Thai trainers in the world. Over the last 25 years, he has developed multiple world champions and helped launch the careers of some of San Francisco's top Muay Thai and MMA fighters. His teaching is clear, technical, and patient. He gives the same attention to new students as he does to seasoned fighters. He also hosts fight events, giving his students real opportunities to compete. This gym has a strong and supportive community. Everyone trains hard and looks out for one another. The coaches are skilled, personable, and really love to see when you're improving. The other students are welcoming and all putting in their best effort to better themselves all for various reasons, and if you're doing the same, you're gonna make some solid friendships here. Kru Sam is actually from Thailand and knows the traditions of the art and still goes back himself or sends students there regularly to train, which may be part of why he's trained so many champions. If you're looking to compete, a place to learn how to defend yourself, or even a place to get in a solid workout, give it a shot!

Not sure if it's a staffing issue but I probably have been turned away 50+ times thus far, quite frankly, it sucks. Can't have open gym hours if you're not open. I came in as a brown belt specifically to train under Coach J Janero. His lineage through Rickson Gracie and the Ribeiro brothers resonated deeply with me since I started my journey under Kron Gracie. Making a move at that level is not easy. You do not change academies unless you are looking for something real. What I found at Evolve was next level coaching. Coach J genuinely cares about his students. He does not run a one size fits all system. He studies you. He understands how you move, where your gaps are, and how to refine your game. That level of individualized attention is rare. You feel seen, not processed. Training with J and Jane, who is also an incredible black belt and coach, has completely transformed my Jiu Jitsu. Their focus on efficiency, precision, and longevity is huge for me. I am in my 40s and I want to train into my 50s and 60s. They teach you how to push hard while staying smart. The culture is serious, technical, and supportive. If you care about growth and long term development, this is the place.
