I have mixed feelings here. The owner is very nice and I genuinely feel he is just working is butt off and trying his best. But it's VERY unorganized! After about 4 days of a truck no showing (during the covid-19) I finally got my couch. It was very good quality and a great price. The warehouse. So if you have ever seen American pickers... lol not quite that bad but a lot going on! I personally like the rummage sale style but if your looking for a Denver mattress vibe, steer clear! Absolute rubbish. Advertised as "like new" but what I received was a dirty and stained box spring. There are huge stains on it, including blood, and it appears as though it was dragged across the road and sliced open at the side. I called to voice my issue and I was told I would receive a replacement first thing the next day. I have since been ghosted. read more

I've truly loved all the staff! The delivery has been successful and they were polite and handled everything with care! My main issue with this business is they misrepresented their merchandise, claimed to sell "like new" mattresses and described them as new, possibly out of the plastic or with cosmetic damage in shipping so couldn't be sold as new. They delivered to Iowa City, which seemed odd but he said they came here once a week or so. What I received looked okay, but was trash, old and completely worn out, sanitized with what smelled like Clorox. I complained about the merchandise and they delivered a different mattress, also terribly worn out. Both of these mattresses were complete garbage, totally worn out - worse than anything I've ever experienced. When I pressed them about it, they said they did not know where the mattresses came from. I asked the owner to simply take the second mattress back, get it out of my house, not expecting a refund and not wanting another of his mattresses. He wanted $40 to take the mattress back - I'm sure because it does cost money to dispose of garbage. Ever wondered what happens to the worn out mattresses people have hauled away when their new mattresses are delivered? I think it's safe to say they're sold by outfits like Kern Mattress Outlet. EDIT: After speaking with the owner of the store, the extra balance was waived and he personally delivered her items. We are now happy, and glad that this matter is settled. It's probably better if you wish to buy something or use the moving services if you speak directly to the owner of the store. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This company is either full of incompetence or dishonesty. My sister was trying to purchase a coffee table from this company as well as utilize their moving service as she has some physical impairments. So far this company has dropped the ball at least three times. I have been witness to all of this. She was trying to move out of her apartment on Thursday. She called to set up the move and the gentleman that took her call did not properly report the items she relayed to him. This resulted in an improper quote and now they are charging her another $50. Then, on Thursday when they FINALLY showed up (half an hour late) we find out that the moving order was mistaken. Then they have changed the delivery date of her items three times. First they promised Friday morning, then Saturday morning and now it is Sunday morning and they have still not called to say they are bringing her items. Frankly we are appalled at this. We do NOT recommend that anyone use their services or buy their products as they do not care to do their jobs properly. If they do not give a discount for these atrocities we will make sure to tell everyone we know in Normal to not utilize this company. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The do not run a good business AT ALL. I called them to have them purchase a king mattresss since I had purchased a new one. Daniel- the owner's son- took my information and said someone would be at my home last Friday between 3pm-5pm. Needless to say NO ONE ever showed up or called. So I called on Monday and they said they didn't recall ever getting a call and not sure what happened. So Kerry- the owner- scheduled to come out on Tuesday at 5pm. I called Tuesday at 4:45pm to confirm that someone was going to be out and turns out they "Forgot about me". They then rescheduled me for Wednesday at 4:45pm for sure. Now at 4:25 on Wednesday I call to confirm that someone is on their way and I was told that the delivery driver had left at 3 to make his last delivery and was coming to my place after. 5pm- I call again saying no one is here. Daniel tells me that Thomas, the delivery guy, is on his way. 5:15pm- I call Daniel again, tells me Thomas will be here momentarily 5:30pm- Daniel gives me the number for Thomas- 1st number I was given is disconnected. 2nd number he gives me is off and goes straight to voicemail. Call Daniel again and tell him that they have until 5:45. He replies "He has your paperwork and everything else so he should be there". 5:45pm- Still no show. I call yet again... and goes to voicemail. I leave a message to have Kerry call me. Thursday at 12:15pm still no call from Kerry and I call again and Daniel answers. I explain to him how NOBODY every showed up. He replies "Well I have no control over my delivery guy. I am not sure why he didnt show. I was at home when you were calling last night since we closed at 5pm. What do you want us to do about it now?" I asked to have Kerry call me as soon as he got into the office- which he said would be at 2pm. Now it is Friday at 10am and I have yet to get a call. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Go somewhere else or save the money for an new mattress thru Bed's Direct. HORRIBLE LOCAL BUSINESS. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Mr. Kern has always been fair when dealing with him. Sometimes I notice people have things for sale and they want him to buy it. If he doesn't get back with you sell it on craigslist. I noticed there was a gentlemen complaining about them not picking up mattress. Anyway, I have known Mr. Kern for 10 years and have bought several things from him. And they also have moved me from one state to another. I have been really pleased and I am glad I am dealing with a Christian business man. Also, I know Mr. Kern helps people in need. He got an award as Community Business of the year from the Baby Fold. And I know he works with other agencies to in Bloomington-Normal area. Ordered a full size mattress and split box spring set for 200 and It was delivered to my house on time. If you don't have that much money to work with and you desperately need a mattress or any kind of furniture then this is your place to go. The mattress is very comfortable and they even had a split box spring because a regular box spring would not fit down the stairs. I lived across the street from Kern Mattress Outlet for 5 years and there could not be better people. From the first day I moved in Thomas helped me move in and showed me some furniture to look at. The first time I went in there I bought a mini-fridge and they gave me a great price and I still use it today. The second time I went in there I bought a brand new couch from their outlet store. The couch is not the quality you would get at lazy boy but it looks amazing and I get many compliments on it. It is also perfect for the price and size for someone living in a small one bedroom apartment. I went back and bought a box spring with my friend. Daniel (the owners son) helped us out with it and threw in a frame as well, he couldn't be any nicer. Finally, when it came to moving out I was able to trade some of my old furniture I was going to throw out anyways and get a bike. Kerry (the owner) showed me the best bike to trade for and even wouldn't let me take it right away so he could fix it up and make it perfect. On top of this they even helped me move even after business hours. One item I donated was a brand new never been used fish tank and Kerry gave it away to a child. He could have easily sold it and made a profit but instead he made this kids day free of charge. (Not to mention there were many times where they would jump my car or help me when I locked both my keys and phone in there).
