UPDATE: Received a very nice call from Randy. He was unaware of any of these issues. After speaking…read morehe went to work making sure that I got a refund of the balance of my money that was in my account. He also refunded the $20.00 that I was charged in error. I'm changing my rating from a 1 to a 4. Everyone goofs up....its how you deal with it that matters. Randy took full responsibility. What more can I ask?

I procured the services of A Debt Coach in May of 2018. I had fallen into difficult financial times…read morebecause in 2017, I was diagnosed with cancer underwent surgery & months of recuperation. Unfortunately, I used my credit cards to live on. In retrospect, I erred when out of desperation, I decided to enter into a consolidation plan to try and regain control of my finances. I failed to do my due diligence to obtain an understanding of what consolidation companies actually do for people. Simply stated, they call your creditors on your behalf to structure lower monthly payments & APRs. The fact is, you don't need a consolidation company to do this and can do it yourself. At the time I contracted A Debt Coach's services, I agreed to let them debit my checking account in the amount of $190.00 plus a $10.00 fee that is applied towards their services. A few weeks after beginning participation in the restructured plan, I was contacted by a female representative of A Debt Coach and informed that one of my payments was in arrears. I asked how this was possible as they had been managing my payments for approximately two months. She replied that she did not know but asked that I remain on the phone while she called my creditor so she could conduct a conference call. The creditor informed her that one of my payments was late. I interjected and asked how that was possible if A Debt Coach had been debiting my account and submitting payments on my behalf for approximately two months. The creditor stated I owed $2800.00 and that the last two payments were late. He then agreed to amend the due date so that future payments would not be shown as late. I next asked the creditor why I owed $2800.00 while my records showed I owed approximately $1000.00. The creditor's representative replied, "Because that is what our records show." After termination of the call, I informed A Debt Coach's representative that the amount due on the account is incorrect and evidently when my monthly payment was calculated by A Debt Coach, they relied on an incorrect unpaid balance. A Debt Coach's representative said, "The important thing is your record no longer shows that you are late." Evidently, the fact the outstanding balance was in error and much higher than what I THOUGHT I owed, was inconsequential to the representative. In the weeks that followed, I contacted the creditor who refused to investigate my inquiry and said I must look at my monthly statements and research these on my own. I began researching statements and later wrote a letter to the creditor's CEO and filed a complaint with the state Attorney General's office. Within days, I received a call from the creditor's headquarters advising me that someone had submitted a payment paying off my outstanding balance and afterwards, charged more than $3000.00 in electronics. I live in California but the person paying off the debt used a fraudulent check and an address in the city of New York. The actual amount I owed was later reduced to less than $900.00. After obtaining proof that my account had been fraudulently compromised, I contacted A Debt Coach and asked that they please reassess my monthly payment. I was told they could not do so and that I must continue paying the monthly amount of $190.00 plus $10.00. Since February 2019, my hours at work were reduced because of a seasonal decline in business. Coupling this reduction was the fact I fell while at work, causing me several injuries. I contacted A Debt Coach and was informed they could skip one payment to my creditors to help me out but that this could result in being referred over to collections and might cause my credit score to drop. A Debt Coach offered to file a "hardship" request but added there was no guarantee it would be granted. Yesterday, my doctor placed me on Workman's Comp (disability) after an MRI revealed sciatica which Is causing me excruciating pain. Today, I received a voicemail from A Debt Coach advising me that the request for hardship had been denied. I called A Debt Coach and asked them to cancel all future payments after 6/25/2019. I explained that my income is too low to continue paying $200.00 a month. The representative informed me that if I terminate my agreement, creditors could refuse to enter into another agreement & return my APRs to what they were before consolidation agreements were entered into. She transferred me to a "counselor" named Brian, who she said could work with me. Brian immediately said he would cancel my account. I asked that he please provide a list of the names of my creditors. At 2:20 p.m. (PT) he said he would email this to me in "5-minutes." At 4:02 p.m. I called because I never received Brian's email. Anna answered the phone & said she would "mail" this to me. Brian not only failed to follow thru, he also wasn't impelled to inform me he would not be emailing the document I requested. AVOID THIS COMPANY.
