We walked in this shop to look for some souvenirs on our recent cruise. They had a lot of cute items, prices were decent. We found a cute mug on clearance and bought some key chains and tshirts. It was not crowded and was next to the aquarium. read more

This place is a tourist gift shop. It has pretty much the same items you'll find it any other other towards shops. I went in here to buy a bunch of water bottles for my family because it was extremely hot. There were no prices on the drinks so I asked an employee. However, he said he had no idea how much any of the drinks were and could not give me a price. He then made bo effort to go find out and walked away. I was like...?! This shop is conveniently located near the Key West cruise port. They have a large selection of generic souvenirs but also some unique ones you can't find at other shops. It's worth giving it a walkthrough, especially if you're short on time while getting off a cruise ship. read more

Picture in your mind the MOST TOURISTY gift shop ever... if you did it correctly, you are picturing the Key West Sponge Market. Located in the heart of the area that is flooded with tourists... most people would think of Duval but you're not even close. Mallory Square seems to gather ALL tourists to watch the sunset and yeah, it's an amazing sunset and well worth the view... before and after though, the area adjacent to Mallory Square is bustling with all sorts of "what to do" and "what to see" (all in the vicinity where Front Street meets Whitehead Street). There are museums (Mel Fisher Maritime Museum and the Shipwreck Museum), to the Audubon House, to the Key West Aquarium, to Trolley Tours that have stops here to come and go, to the Waterfront Playhouse and countless bars, restaurants and shops.... And right there in the middle of all this action is the Key West Sponge Market. First thoughts of course should be, "if I need a sponge, this must be the place" and you'd be correct too... What tourists don't know, is way back in day, Sponging was a major industry here in Key West until the waters were depleted and the Spanish-American War scared the sponge boats (called hook boats) out of the area (to Tarpon Springs). BUT back to the Key West Sponge Market... they offer so much more (IF YOUR A TOURIST). You think what "stuff" can I bring home to remember my trip to Key West or a gift to rub it in someones that that you came here and left your friend's behind. Need a beer coozie, or a metal iguana to hang on an exterior wall, or salt/pepper shakers of a chubby couple in island attire, key chains, bottle openers, coconuts carved into caribbean themed characters, t-shirt sporting the southernmost point buoy, posters, maritime maps, shot glasses.... And lots of stuff with roosters... yes, we have tons of wild chickens/roosters all over the island and it makes sense that rooster souvenirs are front and center.... what I don't get is the flamingos here. Last visit had so many pink flamingo knick knacks; and yet, I have never seen a flamingo in Key West... never even heard of one here before. I bought cute T-shirt's, Hawaiian shirts for my husband and son. I also bought this awesome blue crab Christmas ornament but left it there by accident. I realized it at 4:56 and called the shop. Tammy who had been my cashier answered the phone. I was there 4 hours prior. I told her the ship leaves at 5:30 she said I will run it to you!!!!! I met her at the port security entrance and my perfect ornament now has an even better story. You will find this shop right beside and attached to the aquarium. Key West Sponge Market - Gift Shops Near Me - Key West, Florida

This is a one-stop shop for all sorts of Florida / Keys souvenirs. The selection is huge with pretty much every touristy thing to buy. Cookies and treats, shot glasses, mugs, things with your name on it, figurines, toys, art, knickknacks, etc. etc. etc. True to their name, they have a ton of sponges! They go from cheap, tiny, rough sponges to oversized, soft, plush sponges. The smaller and rougher they are, they cheaper they get, and you can get a little personal loofah-sized one for under $5 or spend a lot more for a pillow-soft sponge bigger than your head. There is also a sponge man outside for your picture pleasure. I ended up buying a bunch of sponges, a pirate ship, and a blown glass jellyfish for friends and walked out of there with what I considered to be a good price. The prices range from cheap to expensive depending on the item, though. This place is definitely super touristy. Not surprising, given it's location, but it's good for what it is and not a bad way to pick up something to remember your trip by or to give to your friends to make them jealous. read more

The haven for all tourists seeking souvenirs! Not only can you get your magnets/snowglobes/postcards etc., they also have...sponges! And not the Scrubbing Bubbles kind; these are high quality natural sponges. Key West of course has a historic sponge trade, and you can learn a little about it here. I love the Key West Sponge Market so much! I go there every time I go to key west and buy several sponges so I can give them to my friends and family as gifts. Staff is always friendly, it is a bit on the pricy side but totally worth it since the sponges last so long if you take care of them and they clean anything and everything so well. read more

This is basically your typical shell shop/tourist supply location specializing in sea sponges. I purchased a pair of sunglasses here that I later discarded because they were distorting my view of the world and were the cause of a headache. The one crazy bit worth visiting this particular location is the insane sponge man or sponge bear at the front of the shop. read more

I visited the sponge market and did purchase a sponge and I must say I love this sponge. It is so so so soft, I love it. I wish I would have bought more but I plan to order them. The sponge man in front of the store is great for taking pictures with. Had a good time in key west and will return. Key West is a great get away for couples. Lots to do and take it easy. read more

I am giving this place five stars because it had some lovely clothing for very low prices AND because they have great customer service. I purchased a dress there, brought it back to my home in Virginia, and then discovered a little problem with it. I called them, expecting to hear them tell me "Tough luck," but they were gracious and helpful and immediately sent me another dress. Very nice, very fair. read more
