I had two keys that I needed to have duplicated. I had used Keyway before when they were located in a different location (across from Foothills Fashion Mall), and they did a good job. When I arrived at their current location there was one person in front of me, waiting for his job to be finished. At one point, a lady walked out of a back room, picked something up, and, ignoring me as well, went back to where she had come from. The bearded guy doing the work never looked at me at any time while I was there. After a few minutes of no looking/no conversation with me, I climbed back up their 14 outside steps and drove down Harmony to Ace Hardware. As usual, someone greeted me at the door and directed me to the key cutting area. I waited there for a few minutes (the guy was busy), then a lady came out and asked what she could do for me. I gave her my two keys and she knocked them out pretty quick, charging about 20% more than Key Lock did, but I had no complaints. The job was done and I could go home and get lunch. read more

If you're considering having keys programmed here, read this first. We brought in a fully functional vehicle to have new keys programmed. The technician failed to complete the programming but still charged us $80. To make things worse... When we tried to leave, the ignition would no longer turn. Prior to this visit, there were zero ignition or starting issues. The key would not rotate and the steering wheel was locked. The car arrived drivable. It left on a tow truck. The technician did not understand what had happened and offered no solution. After he failed, there was no clear explanation, no recovery plan, and no meaningful assistance. We were left standing there with a disabled vehicle. Because the wheels would not turn, the tow truck had to drag the vehicle out of the parking space. The company offered no assistance for the tow, we arranged rides, and lost two full days while the car sat at a mechanic. We were out several hours and several hundred dollars due to this failed visit. The owner, Jeremiah, changed his responses multiple times and ultimately did nothing to assist, or take responsibility for the inconvenience. No towing coverage. Nothing. If you value your time, your vehicle, and basic accountability, take this into consideration before scheduling service here. Ugh!! I hired them to change the key on two door locks in a small rental house. A dude shows up and changes the locks in about 5 minutes. I ask how him much and he says $177.00 and I'm like WTF and I pay him. I'm not sure what the thinking is in today's world but this is total BS! If you want to get robbed at key point then hire these guys as they have no problem fleecing people. read more

Another 5 star review. Last week we had the occasion of needing a locksmith for two unrelated matters. In the first case, the key broke off in my daughter's ignition. I called a different locksmith and they recommended Don's--and I see why. They had the problem solved in no time and charged my daughter only $20 for the service and new key. Next, I brought my truck in because I had lost the key to my hitch lock. Several guys came out to see if they could pick the lock, but it was too gummed up with dirt and debris, so the had to drill it out (which I was fine with). I have been using Don's Keyway for over 10 years. Zach has fixed existing handles/locks, installed keyless deadbolts for us and Jeremiah has installed a safe (bolted to our foundation) as well as have made various keys for us. I recently had door knob fail so that I could no longer lock the doorknob. I removed the mechanism to see if could determine what was preventing it from locking. I was not able to determine the root cause so I put the parts in a big ziplock and headed over to Don's Keyway. The gentleman that helped me out was very pleasant and with some assistance from his colleagues was able dissemble it further and find & fix the problem. He then reassembled the mechanism and wouldn't take any money for his time and expertise. When I got home I reinstalled the doorknobs, chassis, and trim; now everything is working as it should. The professionalism of this guy was so bad. When first attempting to reach him at the recommendation of a different locksmith . He was unavailable. Call after call ( during his stated business hours) I couldn't reach him or anyone else. So I finally leave a message. I get a call back a day or two later apologizing because he was out of town camping. The professional thing to do would have been to leave his change of hours and days on his voicemail let alone his website. He was unsuccessful the first attempt. Called me that night saying he thinks he figured out the problem. So we schedule to meet back at my car that evening. Evening roles around and I get a text. Saying there is something going on with his truck and if we can reschedule the following day. We do. So I find a ride , we drive to my car ( 20 min drive ). Just to get there and wait and wait. I call him and no answer. Finally he answers telling me he forgot to hit send. And can't do it til later that night. And to leave my keys in the car. So I do. He never went that night. And now my cats are still in my unattended unlocked car. The following morning he finally texts me saying he's on his way to my car at 10:30am. I waited and waited and waited. He never called. All day. Around 8 pm I call him and what do you know, no answer. So I text him saying I guess he broke the car since he hasn't said anything to me all day. He finally texts me back saying he couldn't get it and the next day he'll call tech support. That was it! I'm not leaving the keys in the another night and waiting til the next day again for one of the most unprofessional people I've ever hired. read more

I didn't want to pay $300 for a new programmable key from the dealer, so I bought the keys for $20 online. Then I couldn't find someone to cut them. Everyone wanted to charge $150 and to force me to buy the key from them and have them program it. Don only charged a few bucks to cut the key. Now I can program it myself. I've been to this shop several times to get new house keys made. The keys always, always work. (I've had keys made at other places that don't work, which is annoying, even if they refund the few bucks upon return.) The people at Keyway know what they're doing! I'd give Keyway five stars, except the location is problematic. The shop is at the intersection of two of the busiest streets in Fort Collins (Harmony and College). That means you have to be going East on Harmony to get into the business parking lot. It's worth it for me. read more
