This little take away lunch spot popped up late last year on St. Enoch square and immediately…read morepiqued my interest. As the name would suggest it's loaded with American style food, don't be down heartened though this is no run of the mill 'American diner' serving cheap hot dogs and yucky burgers from the cash and carry. The food from Nic's is tasty, well thought out and delicious. There are of course the likes of baked potatoes and sandwiches with lovely looking toppings to be enjoyed. My eyes however were very much glued to the Hot Dog menu where you can try such delights as the amazing Cheesy Pig Dog ( bacon and cheese) or the BBQ Dog (sweet fried onions, BBQ Sauce and dill pickle) or the very tempting Glasga Dog ( black Pudding and fried egg). What makes these dogs in my opinion the best take away dogs in Glasgow is that they fry off their dogs for a few minutes which makes them extra tasty. I've not tried the freshly made pancakes or waffles yet but they do come with some lovely looking toppings - the Banana Beast ( banana, maple, pecan nuts and ice cream) Peanut Butter Jelly Time (peanut butter and blackcurrant or strawberry jam) or the Sweet Porker Stack ( bacon and maple syrup) these are definitely next on my list to try from the menu. On my last visit I finally gave in to the cool looking doughnuts. These lovely little clouds of light dough are made in-house ensuring they are as fresh as they come. The base is so soft and flavoursome, the topping is a luscious thick layer of fondant sprinkled with a variety of American style toppings - Oreo, peanut butter cups, smarties, marshmallows......the list is endless. What really excited me tho was while chatting with the girls they announced that they were expecting their doughnut menus to arrive any minute. Hang on! Let's just think about that for a second........a menu......dedicated to doughnuts.......it's the stuff of dreams! Nic's is a great wee lunch spotwhere they use really good quality food and the girls who work there are all lovely and helpful when trying to make your selection....what's not to love about this place.

I found this place on Yelp (just like I always do for the best-kept secrets just waiting to be…read morefound) and I'm really glad I did. When you go in, it looks just like a normal deli... then you notice the amazing menu (taco bowls, proper dogs, "Triple Bypass" baguette etc.) and the cheeky bottle of Buckfast that's apparently used on Fridays to make some of their food a little more special. Going back to the food, it did take me a couple of minutes to choose what to have because EVERYTHING looked awesome. Even the SALADS!!! I was guided by the lovely staff who work there and plumped for the Taco bowl. A large, crispy tortilla shaped into a bowl stuffed with salad, guacamole, sour cream, PULLED PORK (this was my topping), covered with jack cheese and some Glasgow Megadeath chilli sauce. Great stuff. And for dessert you MUST get one of their special donuts... loads of flavours. Think Krispy Kreme but without the nasty aftertaste (you know what I mean!). If you've never been here, cancel all of your other plans and go here ASAP! You won't regret it...

Now my friend who ate the cheese burger has been sick after eating it ! Chips were soggy and this place is just a joke ! Won't be eating from it again and I'll be advicing people to eat somewhere else and not here !

I called…read moreagain at 4:20 inquiring about the status of my order and was told by a very disinterested young lady that they hadn't sent my order out yet and that 'maybe' the driver would be back in 10 minutes to deliver my order. I called back at 4:50, but had to call no less than 13 times in a row before someone picked up. Was told it was out with the driver. I asked what sort of compensation they would provide and the same disinterested young lady said '50% off I guess'? I decided to make myself some dinner at home (which in retrospect I should've done in the first place) and decide to wait to see how long it would actually take. At 5:30 I had to leave for the evening, and sure enough at 5:35 the driver called saying he was there. I have ordered once before and there was no delivery issue but the food tasted like shoes. I only ordered this time in the hopes of a more flavourful cheap meal. Alas, it was not meant to be.

The rebrand of my favourite love/hate affair - Pinto…read more Nothing has changed inside apart from a lick of paint, new menu boards, and new branding. Instead the main changes are on the menu and the attitude of the staff. My big problem with Pinto was it slowly felt like a production line as time went on, this is now the opposite - you are greeted at the door by a friendly face, the staff behind the counter are friendly and chatty, and there seems a lot more love and attention put into making your food now. The menu itself is made up with the exact same menu as Pinto, but with additions to the burritos - a loaded burrito (a standard burrito with coleslaw and guacamole), and a superfood burrito (coleslaw replacing the rice), there is also the addition of Churos to the menu which is great for a sweet tooth like me. The food itself hasn't changed much, there's just a couple of tweaks I noticed. I spotted herbs and spices being added to the rice while I waited. My favourite part is the bland chicken that continually disappointed in Pinto has gone. The chicken now has a subtle kick of spice to it that complements everything else in the burrito brilliantly. A much welcome rebrand.

These burgers are a bit pricey for their size but are loaded up with amazing, unique ingredients that definitely make this place stand out. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had, honestly. Would have been nice if we could have specified how we wanted the burgers cooked but that's apparently a restriction put on all Scottish restaurants. (My previous review is for a wing pop up he did). Thanks to Austen, Trudie, Pammi & Ally, I had the inside scoop of which burger to order - they all said the Top Dog was the best. I was a little confused as I assumed that was a hot dog but nope, it's a burger. What's in it? Beef patty, double bacon, bone marrow, Roquefort butter, caramelized onion and black truffle mayo on the side. And it came with chips. There was a bit of a wait but we were drinking with friends so weren't too bothered. The burgers were nicely presented on a tray with the chips in a pot. Excellent chips and I really liked the black truffle mayo. The burger was obviously the highlight though - it was totally delicious. I actually don't eat too many beef burgers these days as I find a lot of them are overcooked and bland but this was heaven - perfectly cooked meat (rare) and the Roquefort was just the perfect match as it really gave the burger a punch. The combination of flavours was just perfect for me and I really enjoyed it. I've had some good burgers in my time and I really do mean it when I say this is right up there at the top. My only negative comment is really the pricing - £13.50 for a burger and chips is pretty hefty but I can also understand why as this is a special pop up burger which tastes amazing and obviously uses quality product. For me, I wouldn't have this burger every day but as a special occasion treat, hell yes.
