The staff members' faces were stoic, not friendly at all. It was our first meal in Vienna so we figured maybe friendliness is not the norm in Vienna. I don't know. We ordered, took a long time for the food to come, and it was mediocre at best. We asked for the check and my husband is always a generous tipper so he gave more than the 10% norm. The waitress herself said the norm was that and she thanked him in a monotone. Very underwhelming and unpleasant experience. Please, go anywhere else but here.

The venue inside was nothing special, rather indictive of the chain character of the restaurant. The waiters were ok and till here everything was fine. Later on, I felt the need to visit the rest room and on taking downstairs a terrible odour caught me as I was walking down the staircase. When I returned our food was there. Nothing special here either. I confirm what others have written about a charge of 0.9 € per sachette of mayonnese or ketchup. The worst part though came in the end. I was right in front of my boss when the waiter came in for the bill but actually I wasn't paying attention as I was searching for something on my mobile phone. Yet I sensed that there was a mini dialogue about a tip to which my boss concured despite one last conversation we had the other night about the leech tipping situation that the US is currently facing, Right after exiting the restaurant I asked my boss if the waiter had asked for a tip. He nodded positively. "And you accepted..." I added in disappointment. To my sheer surprise he said with a cutting edge like tone "NO!" "What no?" "He asked and I denied. But he went on saying that the service was not included.. so I backed in" At this point I was already feeling my blood boiling. "But why did you have to succumb? You should have said NOOO! and if he inisisted the answer would still be NO and then we should see what happens." I was in distress. We were scammed. What's worse is the fact that this virus that has taken over the US is coming straight forward into Europe and it seems there's space and time to conquer here. I definitely DISCOURAGE anyone to visit this certain place but since it's right in the middle of a touristy area fresh victims will get milked day by day. So, why would the owners even care?

The waitress was very unfriendly, she really didn't want to go to work. The food took a long time before it came and worst of all, it didn't taste good. I was so disappointed as this was my first Viennese meal! When it was time to pay, my husband tipped really handsomely, like he always does, and the waitress' eyes lit up and she sprang into life. I understand that waiters and waitresses work for tips with some restaurants but come on, you're at work so act the part. Overall, the experience wasn't great. I wish I went to McDonald's nearby instead.

It's still family-owned by the fourth generation of the Figlmüller family. We had a reservation, which I highly recommend. When we arrived, there was quite a long line outside the building, but we were able to walk right in to get seated at our reserved table. Figlmüller Bäckerstraße may be the offshoot of the original, but it still has tons of historic character. It's traditional and cozy and warm. The service was great, too - it made for a very comfortable spot. My friend and I shared: Figlmüller-Schnitzel, creamy veal goulash with spätzle, and carrot salad. We might have had a couple of glasses of wine, too. The food was all great - Viennese classics and delicious. Overall, I thought Figlmüller lived up to the hype. The place was spotless, including the bathrooms, and the staff were super friendly. What made it truly unforgettable was not just the food but also meeting new friends from Malaysia and Taiwan while waiting in line. They had a reservation (we didn't!) and invited us to join them. Strangers from opposite sides of the world sharing an amazing Viennese meal, stories, and laughs. Proof that good food really does bring people together.

However, my personal favorite restaurant for authentic Austrian cuisine is Schitzelwirt! They have an exceptional Biergarten in the front of the restaurant or inside dining if you want a more romantic setting. I recommend enjoying their traditional Wiener Schnitzel with Herb Potatoes. Aperol Spritz & local Sturm Wine pairs nicely with this meal. The service was excellent! They are able to speak English but restaurants are the best place to try using your Deutsch and the staff will be very pleased and create laughs around the table. Also, this restaurant isn't very close to an U-Bahn station so I recommend using a taxi or Uber to arrive and continue your night.

The restaurant is big with lots of seating available and prices are reasonable as well. We even saw a photo of Ed Shireen on the wall during our time there indicating that he had eaten at the restaurant before! Menus are in English and German and the staff are able to communicate in English fluently. They also have some outdoor seating as well. We both ordered the Wiener Schnitzel. Sides are separate so I ordered a salad while my partner ordered a side of fries. The salad was tart and fresh. The schnitzel portion was huge! We got 2 big pieces of schnitzel each on the plate. I tried to finish my plate as best as I could but it was difficult. The coating on the schnitzel was crispy and just the perfect thickness where the pork meat was pounded to the perfect thickness. Overall, a great place to grab some schnitzel in Vienna!
