Republic Services had a strike and for two weeks we got no service. They still charged us for service. No amount of calling and complaining would do anything to these shysters. They would lie on the phone, be rude as possible, and do everything but admit we shouldn't be paying for their strike. I got "it wasn't us who was on strike, you need to bring this up with your city" and every excuse possible. I pay Republic for the "service," not my city. They would not give any kind of refund. I contacted 7 on your side and a guy named Brinke was really great. For a couple months he was on them. He would get back to me every couple weeks and ask if there was any change. The thing is even for two weeks it's not that much money - but no one should be paying for a service we never received, even if it was just a dollar a week. I let Brinke know these people were super rude to me (I believe they were harassing me at one point, charging me for garbage six inches over the rim, something we've done 20 times and never been charged for, now all of a sudden getting a charge because of my complaining). I just wanted to give a very positive notice to Brinke and 7 on your Side for taking the time on this - it was a very minor thing in the overall scheme of things (I know they've got far more major situations they're dealing with) and I was hoping a lot more people would contact 7 on your side for this particular matter (only one other that Brinke told me did), but either way, great job, going above and beyond to work on this matter. read more

KGO/ABC news broadcasted the S.F. Chinatown New Year's parade on 2/15/2025 beginning a 6 year contract. The parade also livecasted on Hulu.. Deja Vu as most participants are repeaters. The hosts were chatty but not much about the parade nor it's participants. Most exciting was the fireworks at the end, the usual long dragon, and the new Chinese dance troupe. Kungfu performances and live marching bands were not broadcasted. The commercials were repetitive, the commentary of the casino floats during the parade sounded a lot like informercials. KGO has experience in parade casting re it's work with Pride parade & Black Joy. 2.5 stars gonna skip viewing next year's parade. read more

Nightline is ok but The View no so much - tuned in today and they were talking about removing a head from a body. I don't think that's suitable for children. Journalist James Longman was on the view today 1/9/25 discussing some very graphic details that I don't think belong on television for children given so many other things are censored. My take on it was because he worked for the company they bend the censorship rules - and I don't like that. One star for the view - all this yapping in circles goes nowhere anyway. I don't know how people can watch that. Nightline I think is ok - even good. More investigative journalism than the norm and they go into any given subject instead of some sensationalized title and a 5 or 10 second informative few words. What do we do - average it for a solid three stars. read more

I love abc 7! But Larry Biel was very rude, disrespectful and feeling entitled. I was working as a University Safety Officer in San Francisco downtown when a male, which later identified as Larry Biel, illegally parked his black Mercedes SUV on the campus bus pick up/drop off stop in front of a campus building. The white mark sidewalk and bus signage were very visible. I (in officer uniform) then approached and respectfully informed him that this sidewalk lane is for campus student bus pick up/drop off and university safety patrol cars. He just ignored me and kept looking at his phone. I then asked him to move his vehicle and park somewhere else. He then responded to hold on a second I was looking at my phone. Again, I reminded him that the bus will be here in a minute, and that he needs to move his vehicle because the bus has nowhere to park. Larry told me to wait again. At this time he is interfering with my job and our safety operation. The bus came and Larry was still parked at the same spot. The bus parked in the middle of the road which elevated the traffic that's already heavy and slow. Now, there's only one lane for all the vehicles. Larry also put the student's life in danger because their pick up bus is parked on a busy New Montgomery street. I stated to Larry now the bus is here to pick up and drop off students. He responded ok I'll go now. But then he realized the bus was parked beside him and there were too many cars in front and behind the bus. He has nowhere to go now. He then blamed the bus. Larry stated that it was the bus fault he couldn't get out. I said to Larry do not blame the school bus you are the one who caused all these because you took the bus spot and now it's causing so much traffic. Larry responded "Fuck off!" I responded to him, you're driving a very expensive vehicle and wearing a stupid suit, and that's how you talk. This morning ABC7 reported that the Exploratorium was giving out FREE eclipse glasses. In fact, Kumasi Aaron even said she would run across the street and get a pair for herself. When I arrived at 10 am to get a pair, the Exploratorium personnel said the glasses were ticket holders only. Channel 7, PLEASE get your facts straight!! This may seem like a small mistake but it alerts me to think twice about what you are reporting. I think I'll switch networks to get my local news. read more

I could not of asked for a better time today being part of today's 7 Live "Voice Box" audience.. Well except for my 2 minutes of fame.. (Somehow I'd managed to shadow my face with my own hair and give myself the appearance of having aged a decade or so.. Sigh..) Everyone at Channel 7 was so warm, friendly, and helpful. They were big Yelp fans and we must've heard we were the best audience ever a dozen times (I'm sure they say that to everyone ;-) They made sure we were fully prepared for what would occur and even let us play on the set when the show was done taping! Maybe her delivery works there, but her high pitched shrill at unexpected intervals and her inappropriate smiles while reporting tragic news grates on everyone here, friend and family alike. When she's on the air, we immediately go to ch. 3 where the past Bay Area anchors are. I received free tickets to be a part of the live audience on "The View From The Bay" on ABC so I got to see a bit of their backstage offices and their set -- pretty neat behind the scenes stuff and you find out that A LOT goes on to time everything just right for the viewers! The area itself is pretty desserted and parking is a rip-off unless you do meters. read more

Reception is always great in South Bay till there is a major show or a major sport game, then you lose connection and all what you see is pixels. This TV station does not have the bandwidth to serve. What a sham, because they do have good potential. read more

Reached out to ABC 7 On Your Side in 2019. They reached out about a week after I submitted a request on their web form and asked if the issue was resolved. I was the one keeping them updated and didn't really feel they were doing anything on their end. I let them know the large corporation denied any responsibility and rather than contacting them to investigate, ABC just replied that they wouldn't pursue the issue as they are just a "consumer mediation service". They heard one 'no' (through me) and that was it. So much for them being 'on your side'! Don't bother, they don't do anything for you except waste your time; contact NBC or another network instead. I just want to say thanks to Channel 7 News for covering the LGBT prom held at the San Mateo Pride Center a few weeks ago They were the only station that was there, covering the event, and they did a great job. I don't know who was the cameraman but I was impressed. He was all by himself. He not only filmed the whole thing but he also did the interviews. Acceptance and diversity are a big part of what makes the Bay Area so special, so I'm really glad ABC 7 News was there to cover this event. Hopefully other LGBT kids will see it and feel like they have a safe, fun place to go, to celebrate a prom of their own! The kids had so much fun, and I am hopeful it will be even bigger and better next year. read more

Luz Pena's enunciation is horrible. I usually don'tbhave a problem understanding foreign accents, but the way she enunciates inncorrectly for American English makes it impossible for us to understand much of her reporting. Very frustrating. Can't watch when she is on. read more

My favorite local news program by far. They provide stories that need to be heard and are always professional. Also, Dion Lim is a treasure.

What is up with the programming - why are the local news and Jeopardy always bumped for things like the NBA draft and other sports shows? The only reason I watch KGO is because it comes before Good Morning America. Eric Thomas' delivery of the news is nothing short of awful. He often flubs his lines (aren't you reading from a prompter?) and makes awkward comments at the end of each segment. Perhaps he's just trying to get the last word? Who knows. To be fair, Thomas is just part of an entirely awkward cast. The puns consistently fall short. The transitions are always agonizingly slow and painful. The "friendly" chitchat they try to have among each other comes off fake and near comical at times. Not to mention, there's been numerous times when you'll hear sideline conversations because someone is still miked. Awkwardddd. Clearly the ABC-7 team sees the 5am to 7am time slot as rehearsal for the rest of the day. Save yourself the energy and tune into any other news channel in the Bay Area. Or perhaps tune into to that infomercial where they talk about shaving your arms with a handheld laser. It'll be a better use of your morning hours, guaranteed. read more

I wrote most of this review in June of '07 and felt the need to update it in April of '08: *** Come 6:00 PM I need some news with my Bombay martini. There's KGO Channel 7, and the usual NBC and CBS equivalents. Then there's Channel 9 with Tom Lehrer and if we're lucky, Ray Suarez. By habit, I click on Channel 7 and put up with Pete Wilson and Jessica Aguirre in order to get to the great Spencer Christian's weather news and Larry Biehl and Mike Shuman's sports stuff. Larry was a breath of fresh air after the 99-year-old Martin Wyatt -- god love his soul -- retired. Martin's problems was that he couldn't read -- a pronounced shortcoming for a newsreader. *** As you no doubt know, Pete Wilson died a few months ago and Jessica Aguirre disappeared. They were replace by Dan Ashley (a giant leap forward!) and Carolyn Johnson -- a very attractive and serious co-host. This change alone raises my rating from two stars to four. I also enjoy the weatherman-with-a-sense-of humor: Spencer Christian -- world's best meteorologist. *** At one time, KGO-TV had the greatest pair of anchor-people in Dan Ashley and Terilyn Joe. Both were modern and fresh -- appealing to a very wide demographic. Then two terrible things happened: Terilyn got herself in trouble with somebody there, and Pete Wilson decided to come over from KRON and displace Ashley. Damn! Terilyn was replaced with the cackling Jessica Aguirre -- a giant leap in the wrong direction. I would replace Jessica with the beautiful and thoughtful Cheryl Jennings immediately. Then there's Dan Noyes -- boy investigator for the "I-Team". His "mouth-full-of-mush" speaking voice is definitely better than it was a couple of years ago. "Seven on Your Side", starring the irrepressible Michael Finney shows how a major-market TV station can use $50,000 worth of TV time to save some little old lady $1.37 on her phone bill. And finally -- Don Sanchez, the failed tap-dancer who reviews movies with his popcorn bucket (I'm not kidding here.) I'll never forget his skating around the memorial service for Herb Caen -- the worst casting job in recent history. Dan Ashley, who can be serious when that is what's called for, would have been perfect. *** Dan Noyes and Don Sanchez are still there doing their thing. I can put up with Dan, but Don and his popcorn bucket movie ratings are a real turn-off. He should go back to his frantic tap-dancing. *** Assorted other miscellaneous folks at KGO: Heather Ishimaru, a nice lady who should lose a couple of pounds; Leanne Melendez -- an excellent reporter who covers remotes; David Louie, the financial guy (and a Chinese Pete Wilson); Political reporter Mark Matthews, who always has a sinister thing or two to tell us; and finally, I love Wayne Freedman -- a free-wheeling spirit with a great sense of humor -- give him a raise! *** This is a much better news show than it was a year ago. *** read more

"Accu-Weather". Ok I know that forecasting weather is a science. Hit and miss and all. But when stations such as KGO call their weather forecast Accu-Weather, they have then raised the bar. It is not like KTVU and StormTracker 2. Accu-Weather suggests that they are accurate. With that being said. I saw the 6pm news last night, (Mon April 6) There was Leigh Glaser showing the rain storm we were suppose to have today, Tuesday April 7th. "Looking at the Accu-Weather model, Rain will develop overnight making the morning commute a mess. Rain will continue through the day, quite possibly raining on the Giants home opener. We expect a quarter inch of rain from this storm. With the temps and the rain, we may get a thunderstorm here and there" The rain simulation showed the entire Bay Area covered in rain. Now yes we got some rain, but not to the extent as the Accu-Weather projection showed. Yes they said that they would update the forecast at 11pm. But I'm in bed around 10 or 11. So I do not watch the newscast. But if they were Accurate to begin with, there shouldn't have to be an update. I could go on and on. Although KPIX/CBS 5 is not off the hook. Since they call their weather forecast, "Pinpoint Weather" they too have upped the ante in the weather wars. But with CBS 5, from the ones I've seen,they have been pretty 'accurate' Let me state again, I am fully aware that weather forecasting is a science. But when they call it fancy names, they up the anticipation of exact weather forecasting. read more

Love Amy Holifield a true pro. She showed up in front of my home at 2:00am to cover a bad car accident and at 2 am she was awesome dressed like a pro and very pleasant to us and all the interested neighbors. She also covered a shooting about one year ago, in our area. All the local TV stations covered the shooting on Corona Heights . Large mob of onlookers and Amy made kGO look good. Amy was sharp and making friends for KGO. Melanie Woodrow (KTVU) was there wearing shower shoes and looking like a gothic from the 80's and totally unfriendly. She seemed unhappy we ignored her but said HI to Rob Roth (whom we like) Rob looked like a pro and was friendly to neighbors even smiled and did not have on shower shoes. But back to Amy, she was so good it was like a community outreach for kGO. After looking out my window and seeing a 50ft gusher of water from the fire hydrant and a badly damaged occupied vehicle 10ft from my front window it was a break to see Amy's face, I immediately turn on KGO for a live broadcast and Amy was on the job and I got the whole story it was unclear what had happened, there just was a major car accident in front of my home. Keep smiling Amy your'e the best. My wife and I love Nicco and Sandy also they are real "people" people. pls get Reggie and Drew to tone it down a notch. read more

I recently dropped by their physical station on Front Street to apply for an internship position. I am a videography and editing student at City College of San Francisco. To my disappointment the building was closed to the public. I was forced to speak to the security guard inside on a phone hanging on the outside of the building, who told me to go online and apply. I found this experience repulsive and impersonal. read more

KGO is the WORST of all the ABC OAO (Owned and Operated) stations. The look and feel is of a station in Fresno. I don't even live in the Bay area anymore, but in the beautiful, CLEAN, Orange County area where I have the privilege of watching KABC, which might just be the best local TV station in America (top notch anchors, ton's of blondes, every reporter is live, 2 choppers, great set and graphics -- this is what local news is about!) and puts KGO to SHAME. I find it odd that from the two trips I make to San Jose per month I seem to see all kinds of technical glitches on KGO -- like microphones not being on or anchors not realizing they are on camera. And can they not afford live shots like KTVU (and all the stations in SoCal). I swear, you'd think they were a little station with no budget by the look of the product. At KGO they have people like the rug wearing Dan Ashley who came from a small market and somehow has stayed at KGO (I bet he is cheap) for way too long. Then there is the old hag Cheryl Jennings who I've NEVER seen report, and who has the thinnest lips of any broad on the tube. Her face is so full of BOTOX nuttin moves -- she gives me the creeps. And the weather gal, Sandya Patel looks and sounds like some bollywood cast off. And speaking of Queens, how does Don Sanchez keep HIS job -- seriously, has this guy any journalistic chops? Last but not least is the dopey looking and acting Larry Beil -- I know reading that teleprompter must be challenging for him --- and the awkwardness of the hand-offs and chit/chat. Do any of these people talk off set. And speaking of challenges, there is my fave, Carolyn Tyler. She cracks me up! I love watching her struggle and get words twisted. God forbid they put something with 3 syllables or more on the prompter for her. She comes off as smart as a box of rocks. If I ever end up moving back to the Bay, my remote will be on KTVU ONLY since they have the only real big-city, competent news team on the air (and they can't really compete with KTLA, KABC, KCAL, KCBS in LA). read more

ABC 7, like KRON 4, used to be part of my morning ritual when I had to be awake to get to work by 5:30 in the morning. I'd watch ABC 7 while brewing coffee. Breakfast of champions. It'd also be my prime time ritual with shows such as "Desperate Housewives." I enjoyed the lineup of Dan Ashley, Spencer Christian, and Michael Finney ("7 on your side") One morning, they had a fascinating documentary about one of the first female rabbis- she served not in the 20th century, as one would expect, but in Gold Rush era San Francisco. However, my kudos to ABC 7 were its Sunday very early morning roundup when I'd get up around 4 in the morning so I could get to work by 5:30. On **VERY** early Sundays, before the sun rose (regardless of Standard or Daylight Saving), they'd have incredibly cheesy movies, like a Casper Van Dien movie about a killer shark (set in Africa, obviously filmed in Mexico)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wkva0k44SK0 The late Corey Haim&Patricia Arquette as heroic roller skaters pitted against white supremacists in post-apocalyptic LA- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl5Wxqx5ffs Jon Voight (Angelina Jolie's father) as a reincarnated good guy battling the evil Armand Assante, along with Wilford Brimley- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAAoOAWww-A A movie that involves Native Americans, the media&an oil pipeline that sounds oddly relevant (despite being from 1990). ABC 7 specialized in early Sunday morning cheesy movies from the 70s-90s. Anybody who appreciates cheesy, lovably bad movies would appreciate this channel. ABC 7 did excellent coverage during the 2014 South Napa quake as well as the recent October wildfires. They kept the coverage current&accurate. read more

This morning Frances Dinglasan was doing a great job giving the weather report, BUT she should not be wearing a dress that shows her knees -- because her knees are NOT pleasing to look at, and that is distracting.
