They are always willing to get you right into the office when you are having a problem. It is a large practice with several other good doctors. The only thing is sometimes the office staff is a little snippy on the phone but I believe it is because the practice is so large maybe they do not have enough help. When I asked him what the hell he was talking about he said that he preferred doctors to be not to hot or not to cold. In other words not just out of med school because they don't have experience and not just about to retire because they might be a bit burned out. My doctor at East Greenwich Family Practice, Dr John Slattery, is indeed like fine porridge. He's old enough to have a lot of experience but not old enough to stop caring. Perhaps his finest quality is the ability and desire to listen. He will patiently listen to my stupid complains and then make comments or suggestions. His examinations are complete and professional but with a sense of humor. When he noticed I have quite a few scars from various mishaps he said that I should think of them as memories or souvenirs. Good idea. The light hearted approach helps things go by quicker and easier. It can be a bit difficult to get through to the office because nobody ever seems to answer the phone and for some reason things like prescriptions and faxes to the pharmacy can take longer than necessary. However the actually interact with Dr Slattery has always been excellent.

Hearts and stuff…read more Going to a doctor, especially a specialist, can range from annoying to inconvenient to exasperating. You are probably there because you have a problem, you suspect a problem or perhaps just a routine visit where you hope the doctor doesn't find a problem. Not a whole lot of good options. But just like changing the oil in you car, mowing your grass or taking out the trash, sometimes going to a doctor is necessary to keep things running smoothly and to get a few more miles out of the old chassis. Some doctors are very competent but not very compassionate or personable while others and nice but you might wonder if they really know what they are doing. Always nice to find a physician that you have confidence in that also will take the time to listen and actually explain things in detail if that is what the patient desires. Dr Willey treats cardiac conditions like cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, endocarditis and a whole bunch of other problems and does procedures like electric cardioversion, cardiac catheterization, coronary angioplasty and other things that most people probably don't want to know about. And if he doesn't actually preform a particular cardiac procedure he almost definitely knows and can recommend someone that does. Going to a doctor can be annoying and very frustrating. It's nice to have a physician that not only can do the poking, cutting and zapping but also take the time to listen to the patient and most importantly be honest and can explain what to expect.

She's kind, sweet and her voice and concern are comforting. She doesn't talk down on me about my concerns because I'm young, she actually went right into details and is working on my concerns. You can tell she knows her stuff and doesn't use all that medical jargon that's hard to understand, she gets on your level and she takes action. He is thorough, and engages patients to take responsibility for their own health, with his support. He doesn't pass out antibiotics like candy. In all this time, there has only been one time I was unable to get a same day appointment for an acute illness, which is amazing. He also has a highly qualified Physician Assistant who supports him and she is wonderful. Dr. Cronin is kind and compassionate, and keeps up to date with latest best practices (unlike Drs. who learn in med school, and feel that that is the only right way, forever.) One of the things I love best about his practice is that he's not afraid to admit he doesn't know something, and if he doesn't know, will either figure it out or send you to a specialist if needed. The *only* reason my review is a 4 and not a 5 is one of the receptionists....she is cold, blunt, to the point of being rude. She has been with the practice as long as I can remember and I've always dreaded dealing with her. But all of the other staff and friendly and immensely helpful.
