We thought Mathnasium would be perfect because it was in a great location really close to my mom. My daughter is staying with my mom half a day during the summer. I called one day and no one answered. I didn't leave a message or anything but soon after someone called me back. It was pretty great. Erin explained all about their program and how they can help students get better at math. She said they were running summer specials and said that we could check it out and get a free assessment for my daughter. We decided to come check it out that Saturday. We came in around 10:30am. The parking can be hairy. They have two parking locations but at first we only knew of the one. The one we knew of was up a ramp. That parking has maybe five stalls and they were all full. My husband just dropped us off. Later I went outside to tell him where the other parking was but it was so tight in the lot that I had to guide him to get out and down the ramp. Meanwhile, inside, my daughter was doing her math assessment with one of the teachers. I waited for a little bit and soon she came out with the teacher and her assessment. The teacher talked more about their program and their specials and what they would do to help my daughter. They have a rewards program also. So if they complete their work they can save up and get some really good prizes from their prizes shelf. They even do a monthly drawing for up to $50 for a student. I liked several things about this program and the staff are super friendly. But in the end we decided to choose a different program for my daughter. But this is definitely some place that you should check out if you're child needs extra math help.

Additional bi-weekly sessions in September and a one time interview prep finalized his preparation to take the SSAT just one time! Covid precautions are in place with sanitizers and desk/stations separated by clear partitions. Staff wear face coverings. They currently offer both online and in person sessions. Mr. Chung is professional, laidback, and is a calm presence around students. He assessed my kids individually and came up with a plan to start at their level and take them to higher learning. He plans to work with them for PSAT, SAT, and ACT testing. He encourages them while expecting their very best. He and Mr. Koa have worked with both of my keiki and after only one session, they were ready to return the next day. We have had several sessions since and both have improved with not only their knowledge, but their confidence in their mathematical abilities. We decided to enroll my daughter at MICAA because at 3 years old, she wasn't articulating as many…read morewords as we hoped for. We couldn't really tell if she was just really shy or was delayed in speech. What we liked about MICAA was that they doubled as behavior analysts and as a Kindergarten prep. We knew we wanted to enroll her in private school so it really was a double purpose. The tutors were amazing and so patient with my daughter. I believe she had Kylie, Cari and Alissa (as well as Luke who is no longer with them). They were all very patient and accommodating, helping my daughter blossom. They made sure we were always kept up to date by uploading electronic copies of what was done during class. My husband and I rarely brought her due to work and had grandma bring her, so it was really helpful to see what she was doing even though we weren't there. We opted for 1hr sessions which at first I thought was pretty long for a 3-4 year old but they keep the lessons engaging enough to keep their attention. If you decide to stick around, they have different parking options - paid street parking, paid lot parking and free parking across the street in Whole Foods/Ward. They are located perfectly because there are so many coffee shops, retail stores, parks and Ala Moana Beach within walking distance. The only take away was that Lins Snack Shop was downstairs making it a popular "post class" treat every week. Our 2nd grader had been struggling with math. Homework was so frustrating ever since he started…read morekindergarten. When his 2nd grade teacher said he wasn't testing at grade level, we knew we had to do something. We looked at other tutoring services, but Sylvan's reputation drew us in. We have been doing 2 hours of math tutoring a week for about 4 months now, and he's so much more confident and comfortable doing math. He's able to complete his math homework with little assistance. And when I review it, there are very few corrections that need to be made. He's able to keep up with his classmates and complete his class work in the time allotted. He likes his teachers and looks forward to saving his tokens for spend at the Sylvan store. I love getting regular progress updates. Everyone who works there is very pleasant and professional. It's easy to reschedule lessons if something comes up. As pleased as I feel with his progress, his report card after one quarter really told the difference. His math grades are up in every measurable way. We're so happy with his progress, we're starting reading tutoring to make sure he is ready for 3rd grade. I'll say this...it's not cheap. Roberts office is clean, simple and straightforward. I sat down on the sofa with my book and read for the duration of the appointment. The first session consisted mainly of math assessments to figure where my daughter stood ,and what areas she needed assistance with. The following week he really got down to work! His explanations were very clear and concise, and he demonstrated great patience. I felt comfortable that she was making progress, and she was relieved to finally understand the concepts that she struggled with in school. He then constructed a practice test for her to work on, then graded it and explained the problems she had difficulty with. Her SAT composite score went from 1010 to 1230! She took the SAT three times total. The main upward trend was in her math portion. There's no doubt in my mind that her scores would've increased further if she tutored with Robert and retook the test again. The numbers don't lie! Yes, a good tutor is an investment. It costs money and Roberts services don't come cheap. But for my daughter and I, it was worth every penny, and I would book him again in a heartbeat. My 5 year old loves math so we brought him here for enrichment. After about a month and a half, we…read moredecided that the repetition method wasn't for us. When we tried to cancel, the program director, Debbie, was extremely rude. She said that we signed up for one year, which my husband and I were not aware of. When I explained that we only intended to try it out, she cut me off and said that "try" is not in their vocabulary. She then proceeded to accuse me of not knowing how to make a commitment and told me "good luck and I hope that you can learn to be a good role model for your son." I nicely asked if she was implying that I was not a good role model, at which point she asked me to put my husband on the phone. She wanted to make sure the refund for next month's tuition went to HIM and not to me. We still have two weeks left of classes that we paid for, which we clearly do not feel welcomed to join. This was not the first time she was rude to me either. When I brought my son to his second class, he clung to me and didn't want to go in. Debbie looked at my son and said "what's the matter, does mommy spoil you?" The program itself is okay. They claim to assess your child and teach them at their skill level rather than age or grade. However, after our initial assessment, the director said my son was advanced but that they would start him at his age level anyway. He can add, subtract, and multiply yet they started him with tracing numbers 1-10. I assume this is to keep you in the program for longer so that you pay more. The program consist of workbooks that the students do independently for 30 mins a class 2x a week plus workbooks for homework. The instructors don't teach the kids, but they are there to help. In my opinion, this is not worth $150 a month. The program probably works well for some, but it wasn't for us.
