This place is great and the staff is amazing! They really know how to talk to children and have amazing patience. The entire place is always very clean, they keep it as nice as possible. Our daughter is 4 years old and she absolutely loves it and wants to go every single day. They really care about every student here and take the time to individually help them all. I would recommend this place to any and everyone!

I have 2 young daughters that have been coming here for a few months now. The instructor to student ratio is incredible. My daughter has learned a lot of skills and gained a lot of confidence. Master Jeff and his staff are excellent and work very well with all the kids. There are many Tae Kwon Do places but we drive 40 minutes to every practice for her to train here. 100% recommend. read more

If I can give more than 5 stars I would because they really deserve it. Our 2 sons enjoys attending their classes and always looking forward for it. Everyone is friendly. All instructors are very nice and passionate in guiding all the students, they make sure all students are learning. Most importantly they have showed our son who has cerebral palsy diplegia, that he can also do things just like the other children, that his disability is not a hindrance. We love Kicks!! This is the best self defense school for kids in Riverside. Not only do they promote self control, self defense, and the principles of TaeKwonDo in the dojo but at home and school as well. The instructors are AWESOME!! My daughter has been begging for me to put her in martial arts for years. We finally realized she was serious and decided to enroll her in taekwando here at KICKS. Master Jeff is great with the kids and all of the black belt teachers are patient and helpful while still expecting respect and self-discipline of their students. Master Jeff and his team at KICKS are some of the best instructors I've witnessed in any setting period. I am a lifelong practitioner of martial arts and I've rarely seen a studio with such patience, discipline and maturity as I see here every week. My five year old son has grown leaps and bounds, learning to channel his boundless energy into constructive and controlled movement. I attend the adult evening workout sessions and I really enjoy it. Every workout has been hard but manageable even though I am out of shape. Both the leaders of the sessions (Jeff and Sergio) are kind but happy to push for your best workout. I really like that I've been attending for over a month but there is a new exercise every time. In short, it's hard, fun, and never dull. My only complaint is that it's a bit expensive but if you attend often it pays for itself. read more

I really loved going here! They will customize a move for you if you have had health issues in the past. Classes are very small so you get the one on one attention in a group atmosphere. They have different payment plans that if needed they will help with a meal plan. I can't wait for my knee to heal and when I can return to classes! read more

My son has been with Kicks for a few years now and he loves it. When it comes down to it, it's his opinion that really matters. I have seen this little 7 year old grow tremendously. His confidence, self-discipline, and physical fitness has grown by leaps and bounds. This would not have been possible without the patience and guidance of his instructors. Master Jeff has been great. He is a natural teacher. Before I signed my son up for classes I observed a few of the kid classes. Being a middle school teacher, I watched the interaction between Instructor Sergio and the kids with a critical eye. I relaxed after a few minutes. His relationship with the students was comforting and my mind was set. I couldn't wait to get my little guy signed up. Hopefully my son will earn a black belt soon so his mastery of the art can truly begin. I strongly encourage those of you contemplating taking classes to go and observe. We specialize in martial arts for the whole family. We teach ages 3 & up. We also teach fitness kickboxing to help you tone up and lose weight. These classes are also a great way to relieve stress & teach you self-defense. Our kids classes are amazing to help improve focus, concentration, respect, discipline & manners. An area we truely specialize in is helping children with ADD/ADHD. Doctors recommend our program to parents & its amazing to see how children improve with their grades in school, focus on their parents & teachers. Some parents have even told us our program has helped their child to no longer need medication.

Established in 1992.

KICKS Taekwondo & Kickboxing has been in business for over 20 years. Originally started in Colton with Grand Master Kit Mattson and in 2000 opened in Riverside where Master Jeff currently teaches.

Meet the Manager: Jeff M.

Master Jeff is the master instructor at KICKS Taekwondo Riverside. He helped establish the KICKS system and helped expand the school from its roots in Colton to Riverside, Yucaipa and Corona. He currently is a 6th degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and has experience with Kickboxing, Hapkido and Jujitsu. He also does stunts on TV Shows like Marvel Agents of Shield. This experience helps students with the performance teams and shows them how to take their training to the next level. Lastly his experience in health and nutrition has helped countless members get in shape and lose weight. With customized meal plans and exercise classes to fit any schedule, he continues to help people with their fitness goals.

The evening classes that I attend are taught by lead instructor, Ray. Although I only train in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Karate classes are also offered here. Onsite gym access is also offered with Gold membership and access to the Orange facility is also offered with the Gold membership. Muay Thai practices typically consist of a warm-up such as jump rope or jumping with conditioning drills in-between, shadow boxing, learning technique by hitting pads, bag drills with punches and kicks and sparring at the last 15 minutes of practice. The workout is great for me as I'm in my 50's and I don't have any aspirations to compete. I attend 2 - 3 times a week, evenings during the week and sometimes Saturday morning. It would be tough to get that high intensity workout by just going to a gym. The staff is is friendly and helpful. My only opportunities for improvement are more clinch training is needed on Monday or Fridays and the mats could be cleaned more frequently. Four stars!

A few months later I tried out the jiujitsu class with coach Paul and got hooked on that as well. My first class we worked on one move then rolled for the rest of class. It was a great workout and no information overload from trying to learn too many techniques in one class. I upgraded to the unlimited membership after that class.

When we got down to where the creek was, we found the heart shaped rock and some waterfalls. Being that it's July, the fall were light, but still rapidly moving and the water was clear. Very unfortunate that somebody had to go spray painting the area, which is so sad because it's such a beautiful little spot. We took the dirt trail to the right going back to our parking area and it was a nice beautiful hike. Take some water with you so you can stay hydrated during the summer.

Then you go downhill on the way back. It is around a 2 hour hike, very nice views!

I thought this would be a great way to use our funds and teach him pool safety. Fast forward to today, my son has since turned 7 this year, and he still does not know how to swim or even put his head under the water. Granted, we were not going consistently. But for the past 3 months we have taken him weekly. Before that we did 2 other months I believe. I thought, let's just keep trying, maybe it's just that he's scared and he'll learn if we stick it out. My child struggles with sensory issues and has not been interested in getting his face wet. He also has a harder time being around other kids in very close proximity which, he definitely is here. He did the group lessons for 30 mins and they're basically shoulder to shoulder most of the time. So, the good: when he first started he really liked the two different teachers that worked w/him. The class was usually just him and one other child. The location is clean, and the staff seemed friendly. My son also mostly enjoyed the time and being in the pool, so it was good for getting more experience around other kids, teachers and being in a new environment. The negative: the teachers rotate so you never know who you're going to get. So one teacher might know where your kid is at, but then a new person comes in the next week and it's like starting all over. It seems hard to build a comfortable relationship with the teachers because of this as well. Also, my son never progressed much at all. He moved to the larger pool this year and it's been 3 kids to 1 teacher. recently, however, there were 4 kids in the class. I timed it on my phone out of curiosity- to see exactly how much 1:1 time he got during that class. 4 mins and 9 seconds. Total. The class moved like a conveyor belt just shuffling the kids around, I couldn't believe the kids were getting less than 5 mins each with the teacher. The time in between their turn, they're just holding on to the edge of the pool waiting. My son felt very cramped and two other kids were being kids and having fun but disrupting the class, so the teacher's attention was mainly spent on telling them to stop doing what they were doing. My son was frustrated and felt like he wasted his time. He also had safety concerns because the kids were practically on top of him at times and kicking and splashing in his personal space, so I don't blame him. He's already afraid as it is. Today we went back and there were 4 kids again. He just didn't want to do it again. The kids seem to be on a hamster wheel. The teachers, though friendly, simply don't have adequate time to actually teach the kids anything solid. It's like busy work. I also had a strange phone conversation with the owner recently. to be frank, she kept trying to rush me off the phone and I kept having to say "oh, wait sorry" (nicely) because i had more than one question but she seemed bothered with me. She also didn't explain about making up a certain day and how many days I had to reschedule when my kid got sick. You only get one make up class for the whole year which seems odd to me. We already missed two classes due to vacation (1 planned reschedule) and sickness (she apparently gave us 7 days from the date of the class to reschedule but didn't actually communicate that to me- I found out from the girls at the front desk AFTER the fact and the 7 days passed, which was frustrating because I would have brought him in. I guess I was supposed to assume what she meant when she asked "what does he have??" As in asking what illness he had. I said idk, a cold I think? But wasn't sure. So she "made a note" on her end but never specified that I had to come in within 7 days to make it up. Which really was just a courtesy reschedule because they don't even offer that. So, oh well. Honestly though, even beyond all this, I could see and feel the judgement when I mentioned today that my kid was more easily overwhelmed and we would maybe look into one on one classes for the future. I got the impression that there was very little understanding or empathy there for my child, and my family and I felt brushed off. Bottom line, just not for us. 4 kids is too many for one pool. 4 mins is not enough time to give each kid when you're paying for 30. Maybe one on one classes are different, or with smaller groups, but I had too many incidents where I brought up a concern and felt dismissed. In the future we'll be going elsewhere but I'm bummed we went for so long with really not much to show for it. At the very least my kid got a little more comfortable being in the water but for paying about $400-$500 total and like 4-5 months of weekly classes? I would not say this was worth that time or money unfortunately.

KICKS has been a very positive experience for my son! I signed him up when he was almost 11 hoping he would learn how to defend himself and become a bit more confident in his abilities. It has been over two years now and he has done that and more at KICKS! Lessons there have been great for him; they have improved his focus, enforced a respectful attitude, improved on his communication skills, helped him focus and work on his patience, allowed him to feel he can handle himself better in a tough situation should one arise, and given him a level of confidence in himself I wasn't even expecting him to achieve. The feedback from his Master and Instructors has come to mean the world to him and has taught him so much - I can not say enough positive things about the Instructors here - they are just fantastic with the kids!! If I had a little girl I would totally enroll her too so she could learn how to physically take care of herself! I see the little girls in there and they are learning a ton of valuable information!! I would recommend giving it a try - you have nothing to lose because they will offer you a few trial classes to see if you like it. read more

I was looking for an activity to spend some time with my 7 year old son, and my wife suggested a martial art. Since my older kids had done Tae Kwon Do I searched Google and found Kicks. I fired off an email to Master Jeff on a Sunday evening and had a reply by 7am on Monday morning. We came in for our week trial and fell in love with Kicks. Master Jeff is an excellent, and attentive, instructor and is very passionate about developing those that come to his dojo. Master Instructor Sergio is equally passionate and extremely professional. Since November I have seen my son develop more discipline and a growing passion for Tae Kwon Do, as well as myself. One of the greatest things about Kicks is that nothing is given and everything is earned, so I know that when I move up in a belt, or my son moves up it is something we have worked to earn. I recommend Kicks for anyone looking for a high quality Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, Kickboxing training and personally feel it is the best in Riverside. We love Kicks!! After looking for something to get our boys involved in, we decided on Kicks Tae Kwon Do. Our boys are able to attend a family class together even though their ages range quite a bit. After only a few months, we have noticed better focus and self control, along with improved self confidence and discipline. The instructors are all very knowledgeable, encouraging and most of all patient. My boys have grest role models to look up to and they have set long term goals that they are striving for. We began our Tae Kwan do adventure with Kicks a year ago. Kicks is AWESOME!!! We are able to learn as a family. Our experience with Kicks has been to encourage and build each other up as we learn.
