The atmosphere is very loving and nurturing. The administration and staff are very professional and friendly, and the facility is neat and clean. The outside play ground is fabulous and quite large! There are many staff members who have been on staff for over 10 years, which to me, speaks for itself! The center has an open door policy for parents, and parents are encouraged to take advantage of this policy. Parents are also encouraged to sign up to come in during the day and participate in their child's classroom activities, such as reading a book to the class. I can not say enough good things about this center and the center's program and would highly recommend Christ Lutheran Child Care Center to anyone who is looking for somewhere to send their child (6 weeks-pre-K)!

Whelp it was a blessing in disguise that my daughter can no longer attend! And I couldn't be more…read morehappy. This daycare is all over the place! There is a new "teacher" monthly only one teacher has been there since my baby started in January. This new teacher that started in June called the emergency contact who is my mom (I've provided my new number multiple times) very nasty & rude and order her to call her mother due to her recent travels from Puerto Rico. Now I do not mind fallowing protocol however be professional. This lady called my mother speaking nasty while my daughter was hollering in the background. I get to the school (they have cameras & I also recorded this lady Brittany rolling her eyes & arguing with me about a confusion. We didn't travel from a "hot state" for them to act this way & my daughter & I was tested anyway. All they had to do was ask. No isolate my child like a prisoner with a "teacher" who does not even know how to deal with children panic attacks. I however couldn't not get passed this lady rolling her eyes at me & telling me my child crying was not that serious. Long story short do not tell a parent their child hollering is not that serious. She was all for the non sense & mess until I told her I would go in her mouth about my child! Honorably ! The owner did mention the only thing that was wrong was the threat but honestly I'm sick of new teachers that they do not introduce to the children & my child learns more with me than in daycare.

My youngest son has been attending Just Children since he was 18 months old. From day one, he was welcomed into a warm and nurturing environment. His lead teachers have been consistent. No turn overs like mentioned in other posts. To speak directly to the program, his day to day is a well-thought out mix of age appropriate activities, learning and free play. At 3 years old, he has already been taught his letters and numbers, and can read and write them, too! Throughout the day, I am provided text message video and photos, which makes me feel like I am still a part of what is going on! I love seeing his activities each day! There are a variety of enhancements my child receives at Just Children, which he didn't get at other centers. Touchscreen computers, Spanish lessons, and offerings for sports or dance classes! The staff at Just Children is well educated, friendly and warm. They care about my son - really, they do, and keep me updated on his progress. The other review I read mentioned something about a problem with communication at Just Children. As a parent of a child currently in the program, I couldn't disagree more. The director of the school has an OPEN office at the reception area. She greets the parents as they come in, and knows each child by name. The lead teachers in the room keep me informed about my child's day to day progress, and each evening I receive a communication from the teacher with notes, food, etc. They will even remind me of upcoming events, or if there was an issue my child had that day (this is never a surprise -- I'm always aware prior to the email). In my honest opinion, I wouldn't think to put my child in any other daycare center in the area. They say that actions speak louder than words...so I will also say that Just Children is so amazing that I have THREE neighbors who also send their children there. In fact, they are the ones who referred me to the center. Their children have all been attending since they were infants -- and most are now 4! Thank you, Just Children, for taking such amazing care of my child! You make a working mom feel so comfortable leaving their baby each day.

After trying (and failing) at a more trendy, less-structured preschool, we found the structure we needed at Formative Years. My son feels safe and comfortable knowing when free play time, circle time, snack time, etc. will be each day. Each day is designated as a cooking, science, music, sports, show-n-tell, or library day, and each week has a letter of the week and other themes to inform the classroom activities, so I know that the students are exposed to a variety of subjects. While the school does academic activities like practicing letters and counting, handwriting, etc., the emphasis is truly on play and discovery. I feel like my son is learning the life skills he needs (e.g. socializing, taking turns, sharing, etc.) to be successful in Kindergarten. Nestled in an old church building on 20th and Lombard, the school makes great use of the neighborhood as a classroom. Students take "nature" walks around the neighborhood to search for signs of each season, walk to the public library each week, picnic in Rittenhouse Square, and take field trips to Sound All Around (through the Philadelphia Orchestra), Taney Park, fire stations, and other spots around the community. The school helps students connect to their community. The teachers in the school are wonderful. Ann, the head teacher and director of the school, maintains high expectations for her students, and still maintains a positive, nurturing relationship with each student. Even when my son misbehaves at school, he knows he'll still get a kind word and a hug from Ann when it's time to go home. The care, respect and love I observe between the teachers and students is heartwarming and reassuring. When I first toured the school, I was a little disappointed that the school didn't have a playground, but my son hasn't missed it at all. Instead, the school blocks off an adjacent street or courtyard and fills it with toys (scooters, balls, bubbles, etc.) and the kids have a great time. Formative Years does an excellent job ensuring that little kids have the chance to move their bodies, so even when the weather is bad, the school pulls out scooters and has a small structure to climb on inside the classroom. Here are some logistics: The school is one big classroom with 3, 4, 5 year olds mix together. Formative Years provides after-school care to students at Chester Arthur and Greenfield schools, so there are some KG and 1st graders who come later in the day. Parents have a great deal of flexibility in scheduling, students can choose to attend half or full days (or a mix) and can choose which days of the week they attend (although it has to be consistent). The school is perfect for working parents since they rarely close (e.g. you won't get saddled with trying to find day care for a weeklong winter break in the middle of February), and hold regular hours when the public schools have delays or early dismissals. When I was shopping around for preschools, I did notice that the Formative Years website was out of date, so I'd encourage prospective parents to look past that technological faux pas and go ahead and set up a tour. When we were shopping for schools, I found it interesting that my son didn't end up loving the fancier schools with the indoor sandboxes, instead he loved the simpler school with the friendly kids and teachers who welcomed him and made him feel at home immediately. My son has continued to grow and thrive at Formative Years, and I would encourage families to check out the school when they start shopping for preschool.

However, I have nothing but great things to say about GFELA! 1. Parking - Drop-off and pick-up are usually a hassle at most daycares, but I can always find a free, legal parking spot here. This was an unexpected perk! 2. Teacher Retention - At our previous daycare, there was so much turnover that we could barely remember the teachers' names toward the end. That is NOT the case at GFELA. 3. Security - There is a security guard on the first floor of the building. On the fourth floor, the doors remain locked, and you must call the center to be buzzed in. 4. Director Involvement - Before my son started, the director, Mrs. Unis, personally called me to ensure he would be properly accommodated. She continues to keep me updated on his progress and is very involved in his development. She attends his ELWYN meetings and ensures his teachers provide input to help him get all the therapies he needs. At our previous daycare, I invited the director and teachers to video meetings, but they never attended. Because of that, I assumed directors simply didn't participate. However, when I forwarded the ELWYN meeting invite to Mrs. Unis, I was pleasantly surprised--she and the teachers made themselves available for the meeting! I'm so happy I made the switch!
