I was very excited about this program when it came time to enroll my son in a mothers day out…read moreprogram. He is my first child and I did not realize how quickly they fill up so I did not begin the search until the beginning of the summer. I was SO delighted when one of the ladies over the program called and was extremely nice and helpful. She informed me that he would be 4th on the waitlist. This was great news for me because that was the closest he was on any list. We then talked about how it was crazy that everyone wanted to send their two year olds this year because their program normally had spots at this time of year. Fast forward to a few days following their open house (months later). I called to check and see where he was on the waitlist. The lady informed me he was 8th. I was completely devastated and when I expressed this and asked how he could have been moved down the list I was met with excuses about how I was mistaken. I informed her that there was no way I was mistaken because I had spoken in great detail previously about how it was still a huge possibility my son could get in. She then said that the lady speaking must have accidentally put him on the three year class but that didn't change anything because it still goes by signup date (even after we discussed how crazy it was that the specific class had so much interest). I understand mistakes happen but it appears to me that there is sketchy behavior going on with the waiting list. Even if it was a mistake I was never even given an apology for this happening. She was very cold and non-sympathetic on the issue. If they called me and told me there was a space I still would not let him attend.

After moving unexpectedly back to Asheville from Los Angeles, we were in desperate need to get our…read more3 year old into a great preschool. We spent almost a year touring preschools in Los Angeles and then almost another year getting accepted into one of the best ones, which was in extremely high demand. In Asheville, there were fewer options comparatively. We toured several schools that had been highly regarded by different friends but as soon as we went to Roots + Wings School of Art and Design and met Ginger Huebner, the founding director, we were sold. The school was not only the perfect fit for our 3 year old and our family, but after attending a semester, it easily exceeded the ridiculously hard to get into school we were excited to attend in Los Angeles. Roots + Wings is a beautiful blend of creative art driven education with just the right amount of structure, set in a truly wonderful space to learn and grow. Throughout his first semester at Roots and Wings, our son grew so much - emotionally and intellectually. By giving him a comfortable and positive space to explore art and his surroundings, he learned problem solving, interpersonal skills with other children and teachers, and became much more independent. Most importantly, he had a blast doing it all. When we picked him up from school, he was always so excited to show and tell us all the amazing things they'd done that day. The kids created incredible art projects, had animals in the classroom, played music and had plenty of outdoor time. Our teachers were incredible - it's clear that Ginger is very careful when selecting who will be working at her school. The classrooms themselves are also beautiful. Tons of natural light fill every corner, the design and choice of every element in their classroom from the furniture to the wall colors to the flooring is spot on. Roots + Wings feels like a school you'd read about in Sweden (to be fair, the décor at Roots and Wings is Scandinavian modern). Ginger beautifully conceived our end-of-semester celebration, with all the kids artwork and projects elegantly displayed and a sweet and poignant ceremony. Overall we couldn't be happier with Roots + Wings and if you're looking for a creatively stimulating environment with just the right amount of structure for your preschool aged kids, I'm sure you'll love Roots + Wings as well. We can't wait for the next semester to start and for our other kids be old to enough to start attending!!

I could not have asked for a better experience for our family. Angela is incredibly gifted at meeting each child's specific needs, and working with the child as well as the family to ensure that the children are in a safe and enriching environment. My children have flourished academically, socially and emotionally. The curriculum is creative and flexible, with a good leaning towards STEM and problem solving. One of the things that I love most about GP is that children of all ages are in the same classroom, creating an intricate social structure. There is also strong communication with parents and many opportunities to connect with other families. I can't say enough how much I love Garden Path School and what a blessing it has been for our family!

I was looking to give my daughter a great start in her development and could not be happier with Angela's school. It's a very personal and hands on teaching style that my daughter loves. I actually have a hard time getting her to go home some days because she is having so much fun with her friends. My wife and I both work, and it's hard to leave my child's upbringing partially in the hands of other folks. It was really important to me to find a school where my daughter would be learning, but also feel loved by the teaching staff. I personally think Garden Path is the best pre-k school you will find, probably in the entire state of Illinois. I love that's it's also home based so my daughter feels like she is in a safe and comfortable environment every day. Many of the big volume day cares near me are trying techniques to make the building look like a home inside with cabinets and furniture, but those still feel like a school. Garden Path is an actual home, that hides a pretty awesome school inside! My personal fave: They use tadpoles software everyday and I get to see videos and pictures of what the kids are learning and what field trips they may have gone on! My daughter loves it there and it's the next best thing to being able to have my wife or I stay home and raise her during the critical early years. Thanks Angela!

Jamie is wonderful! We worked together at a Montessori school in Portland for quite some time - she…read morewas an excellent guide to our students and had immense patience. Jamie also has an incredible sense for what types of learning activities would be interesting for kids in the 1-6 age group, often making materials herself, to help students learn life skills such as folding towels or opening and closing snaps, buttons, zippers, and velcro. I would trust Jamie with my child in a heartbeat, and know that she is extremely dedicated to creating a wonderful learning environment, focused on child needs, opportunities for learning, and school organization to assist in keeping parents updated and involved in their child's development.

Since then our girl has blossomed - learning language skills, socialization, independence, and was even potty-trained around her 2 year old birthday. I attribute this to the amazing environment Jamie has created with Norwood. Jamie is patient and kind, she treats the kiddos with respect and such great love. Both of my girls have been in Jamie's care and they both feel confident and secure with Jamie. Outside of the children's care, Jamie has created a community for the families who are attending and have attended Norwood. It is simply the most amazing, special place and I feel lucky to be a part of it with my family.
