I was thrilled to locate one to my hotel and an office reviewed so highly. I called the office and spoke to the receptionist who was extremely professional and caring to my out of town situation. Although short handed with the doctors nurse practitioner off they squeezed my son in within 15 minutes. Upon arrival our insurance was accepted and forms completed. The office staff was exceptional and wonderfully efficient and had us inside with the nurse in 10 minutes. The nurse swabbed for influenza which was suspected. Doctor Barry came in within 10 minutes and had a warm bedside manner. He took his time with my 13 year old son and treated him like his own patient. A complete exam was administered as he waited on the results. He discussed with my son why he was in town, which was a swim meet. The results came up over his iPad and were positive for influenza A. A prescription was written for Tamiflu since he only became symptomatic today. He discussed the medicine and the typical time of recovery. He also discussed his weekend swimming schedule limitations. Dr. Barry also prescribed me Tamiflu as preventive since we are in closed quarters at the hotel. I cannot recommend Dr. Barry enough. If he treats an out of towner this well can you imagine being his patient. A big 5 STARS and thank you!

So if you're child experiences side effects such as depression or anxiety from medicine they prescribe rather than properly having another outside source help before administering medication, they will go ahead and prescribe mental health medications without a mental health diagnosis from a mental health professional. They will not work with outside sources outside of their practice for mental health/psych services because its "messy". Also, when seeking a second opinion my child was removed from their practice without my knowledge until I followed up with concerns/questions about medicine that was prescribed and was told they weren't required to answer my questions because my child wasnt an active patient. All they want to do is get their write off. In my own personal experience with this practice for my child, there had been no compassion or empathy within their practice. It's medicine, medicine and more medicine.

It also helps that she calls our daughter "perfect" every time we're there but that's just because I'm a proud dad with a perfect little girl. We're moving in a few months and we will be sad to leave NRV Pediatrics behind. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and make every visit as much of a delight as a doctor's visit can be. I highly recommend going there as your first pediatric choice in Blacksburg.

Took my children to see the doctor while they were sick with fever, vomiting, diarrhea. I told her their symptoms and she brushed me off like she didnt care. She has always had poor bedside manner. I have asked numerous times to see B.H. only, but she stays so booked it is hard to get in with her. They need to get a new provider in there that actually cares for their patients and wants to make a difference. From what I've heard C.S. has had numerous complaints, the office has also received complaints for it being unclean. I have noticed things, but have tried to give the benefit of the doubt because the nurses there are overworked! The little pregnant one is so sweet, she is always great with my kids, even when they are a handful. This office would be so much better with a new doctor to see. Looking to move to HMG, I hear Dr. Etter is amazing.

Appointment was at 8am supposed to only be 15 mins bc it was a med appointment. Well at 8:48am I asked how much longer it would be bc I have a job like most parents and only took enough time off for the appointment. Instead of just saying I will be a few more mins or ur next I get " it takes as long as it takes and I had someone come In in front of u and I'm going over everything." To which I replied " ok that's fine I was just told this appointment was only going to take 15 mins and I have to work." Then I was told "ok I'll be in there in a min." I shut the door and waited. As soon as she got in the room attitude and rudeness was all I got. " haven't u been to the dr before it takes as long as it takes, and u have been nothing but problem since we started her meds for adhd." Which i replied " I only missed one appointment and I told u why I missed it and took complete blame for missing and haven't missed since and I also apologized for the mistake is that not good enough for u ?" Which my daughter has only had 4 appointments for adhd and I only missed one. I was only going to Henley bc at mount Rodger's in order to stay there for children u have to do case management and counseling that they didn't just do meds which that's all my daughter needs. All she wanted to do is have an attitude and argue. She replied " by the paper work u filled out she may need med changes and that's what's taking so long." I said " well she may not need med changes bc she's been sick and I brought her here for that 3 times but only got an appointment once here the other 2 y'all couldn't take her so I took her to urgent care and they gave her antibiotics there but she's still sick." She said " well u brought her on the 10/23 and she didn't see me she seen the other dr." Which I said "yes she seen the other one and I took her to urgent care bc y'all couldn't get her in. But it's fine just do ur job so we can go." To which she said "she said u put appetite changes and stuff on the paper so she needed to change her meds." I said "I don't think she needs it changed she's been sick, I don't know how's she's doing in school bc I'm not there but the paper I filled out was her on her meds and she's been sick so some of the issues is from her being sick." Being rude and having an attitude the whole time she says " it's best u will have to go to mount Rodger's from now on I won't be doing her meds or charging u for the appointment." I said " ok that's fine she won't be back here." So after wasting an hr and half of my time for nothing not to mention I was there last week on the last day of school before break for this said med appointment that they canceled and didn't even tell me, I showed up and everything was told I wasn't on the schedule but yet had a whole appointment card with the date and time, I told them then she was still sick and needed to be seen which I got they didn't have time to see her and that the appointment was now Monday and would only take 15 mins and I could take her back to school. So basically I'm in the wrong for asking " how much longer?" And I deserve attitude and rudeness. I wouldn't take ur kids here Henley does a half ass job and only wants to be rude and have an attitude at every appointment. Pretty bad I've been going to these ppl for 15 yrs and only have a problem when the real drs leave bc of the poor ability of dr Henley. It's fine she will go to mount Rodger's where Dr Becky Ewald is bc she actually cares about my kids unlike Henley.
