My son has been going here since he was about 2 years old and he's 5 now. We absolutely love the staff here. The owner, Ms. Genny is wonderful! We also loved Ms. Maly, Ms. Jessyka, and Ms. Latantha. Everyone is warm and always made my son feel comfortable. They know his interests and listen to him. My son has separation anxiety and the staff really helped him feel at ease at drop-off. And they'd let me know that he calmed down and was fine within 10 mins after we left. I can't recommend this place enough! It's hard to find quality daycare in which you feel your child is really cared for. This is one of those places! read more

This is the most loving wonderful daycare my son has ever attended. They have a strong curriculum and teach the children how to be ready for kindergarten. I'm that mom, the mom that had a checklist of a zillion qualities I wished for in a day school provider. The moment I met Ms. Genny, I knew we had hit the jackpot. Genny and her staff truly loved and cared for my son during his time at KIH. They laughed at his quirks, snuggled him with hugs when he cried, and helped our family feel at home each time we stepped through the doors. They were detailed about his day, progress, and helped us through potty regressions, and tough feelings. They truly teamed up to make sure that all bases were covered. Miss Mia was so sweet and kind, my son instantly fell in love. He often asked if we could invite her over for a play date. I always appreciated Ms. Lathantha's laugh and knowing smile as my son played Mr. Shy in the mornings. Nothing phased her. Miss Monika was so cheerful! Ms. Genny was wise and kind, and always had a sparkle in her eye as she recapped the day for us at pickup. Miss Malay and Miss Jessica didn't even teach my son directly, but knew his likes and dislikes and always had a smile for him as we came in. Each teacher had something wonderful and different they brought to the table. My experience over the years with Kids in Harmony has been excellent. The staff at the school are kind, caring and dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for learning and development. I have never wanted to publicly proclaim my love of a place more. My son and daughter both attended Kids in Harmony (my daughter for about 4 years and my son for about 2.5 years). We have never once dropped them off and worried for one second about them; they are showered with academics, love, and structure. They have worked with several different teachers in several different classrooms and all of the same caliber; they are excellent teachers under the facilitation and guide of the owners Mr Joseph and Ms Genny. I highly recommend Kids in Harmony day care/day school. My son grew so much throughout his time there, both academically and socially. I was continuously impressed at how much he learned, and more than just academic lessons (although those exceeded my expectations too), he learned how to play and be a friend. Born during the pandemic, his interactions with other children had been limited until he started attending KiH. He was nervous and hesitant and not sure how to interact with other kids at first, but in part due to his time spent at Kids in Harmony, he is now playful and social and excited about new friends. The teachers and staff are nurturing and truly care for all the children so much. They are dedicated and provide the children with fun and unique opportunities and events. My son has now moved on to a CPS school, and his teachers have commented on how well prepared he was for the next step. We have our 3 year old here for preschool part time (3 half days a week) and we love it!!! Mrs Grisel is wonderful. Our son is learning so much. The place is so cute, and so clean. There is a nice outdoor playground in the back that is fully fenced in (wood fence, not see through.) The field trips they arrange are so fun. We feel so blessed to live so close to this amazing preschool. I highly recommend them, you will feel at ease that your child is in the best hands. read more

There are 2 things so precious to any parent - their babies and the education those little ones receive. It is critical to find a loving, safe space for our children when a day school program is needed. How lucky and fortunate for us to have found Kids in Harmony where my babies were taught and loved every single day. The teachers and Ms. Genny became family to us. My 2 boys were enrolled at KIH from 18 months until the age of 5 and I would choose that place again, if given the chance. I love this place and am so glad I found out about it from a neighbor who sends her kids there. The owners send their own children there and maintain very high standards across the board. They are very caring and get to know all of the children and families. My son started here as soon as he turned 15 months. I love both of his teachers. They taught him quickly how to drink from a cup and eat with utensils. The art projects are amazing, but what surprised me most of all is that even in the youngest class, each student receives a review and a report card. I have experience with at least 3 other day cares in the city, and I can say that if you are looking, you should not hesitate at all to send your child here. This review is a long time coming. My child is now seven and about to turn eight. She attended this school (Not a daycare to me.) from the time she was 15 months old until she was ready to go to kindergarten. One of the reasons we chose this school is because of its substance. From the very beginning the teachers are given a curriculum. It is a structured learning center and children are taught to enjoy learning. Of course we care very much about our child's education, (how else do you get good at whip-crackin' come backs!) and we do take the time to learn with her but by the time she was ready for testing she was able to get into a really good school and so did some of her classmates. Her current school won the Federal Blue Ribbon prize in 2018 and some of the credit goes to Kid's in Harmony for helping my child develop a love for learning. read more

After searching for day care fro my 2,5 old son I realized that not a lot reviews are out there to read. So I went to a couple of neighbourhood ones on reccomendation and decided to write some reviews at least on what I have seen. Please: keep in mind that we did not have any experience in any of the day cares yet, so this review is based purely on my first impression. I thought it might help other parents in search though. This day care was recommended to me by a neighbour who has her 15 month old son there and she was raving about it. I kinda thought she gets referral discount for brining a new person in, because she went over board trying to sign me up for this day care. So I went and checked. Well, in general I never liked that pretty much all the day cares are on the main road. Oh well, not much can be done about it. So I was greeted by a lady (not very warm and welcoming to my level of expectations), and then another lady showed me the center around. The place seems to be quite small. They have 4 groups: 15 months to 2 yo, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5. The 4-5 year olds were outside. Their room seems to be a little bigger, but maybe because noone was there. They had about 8 babies at the same time-they have the smallest front room as you walk in. To the left was the room for 3-4 year olds (the music was SO LOUD in there that I thought my ears would burst. WHY? I thought that should not be like this). Then you have to walk THROUGH the 3-4 year olds room to get into 2-3. I did not like the fact of a "walk through" room. Room for 2-3 year olds is not very big either. They have about 16 kids at a time. When I came they were all over each other, one was chewing his shoe. It was arounf 4PM. Maybe because it was the end of the day, but kids were not really occupied with anything. They cook food there in a day care. Being an Eastern European with home cooking preferences for food I personally did not like the menu: it is mostly chicken nuggets and pizza and crap like that. But again, I am probably in minority on this prospective. No option for organic or vegitarian. It looks like they do quite a bit of activities there and starting at 3 years old they take kids on field trips. What completely turned me down is that they do have option for having enterntainment come to the day care for younger kids. It is extra (110.00 for the summer season). BUT: I asked what if a family does not have that kind of money to pay? What happens then? The answer: "You have to find a place for your child on that day/time". I thought it was wrong. I do not have a problem to pay 110.00. But I amsure there are fanilies that do. And I did not like that approach.In other day care I checked: they take the whole day care on field trips in a school bus and those who cannot come for some reason just stay IN day care and have a normal planned day. I also did not like the fact that they take kids out twice a day for only 30 minutes. I thought it was too short. And the playground behind the building is soooooo tiny that there is no room for them to do anything. When I came outside the 4-5 year olds were outside just sitting around looking completely bored. So, sorry neighbour but you won't get your referral discount for signing me up. I am taking my son to a different place with more room, more time outside and more energetic teachers and good food. Again: this is just a first impression. I do not have any information about how they are with kids and what they do during their activities. They might be awesome on that end. But the first impresion was less than average. read more

My daughter started at KIH when she was 2 1/2, and she stayed there all the way through this past August, a total of three years. I cannot say enough good things about the education and socialization she received at KIH, right from the start. When she began there, she was only about 80% potty trained -- by the end of her first week, she was completely potty trained with help from her teacher. As she moved up through the classes, the teachers were incredibly attuned to the pace of her learning, and made adjustments and suggestions accordingly. They also do a wonderful job with things like seasonal "shows" at the Portage and the spring graduation, where the kids do little dance-and-singing routines -- it's fun for the kids to celebrate milestones that way and it's fun for the parents to see. There's always something fun going on - holiday parties, appreciation days (including parent appreciation day, which was always a nice morning surprise, since they put up an array of treats for parents to take.) The only complaint I could fathom making is that I wish they had a website that could help parents keep on top of events at the school, like special "bring X in" days or whatever. That would have made my life easier, but it's hardly a dealbreaker. As far as some of the concerns I've read in other reviews -- yes, the outdoor space is small but they do a good job of working with what they have, and they take frequent trips walks, trips to the park or the library, etc., to supplement the outside time when it's possible. The summer program is fun and stimulating for the kids -- having chaperoned a few trips myself, I always had a good time, as did the kids. I never felt like we didn't get our money's worth and then some as far as activities are concerned; I know from talking to Miss Genny that they try hard to keep costs low but still provide a fun set of field trips -- that's tough to do, I imagine. And the food -- well, my daughter generally ate breakfast at home so I can't comment on the breakfast offerings, and she's accustomed to home-cooked meals and fresh foods from home but can be picky about vegetables. There are a fair number of processed foods on the menu but I really didn't find it to be that excessive; having chicken nuggets once every two weeks isn't going to condemn your child to a lifetime of obesity, so, lighten up, Francis. I will say that my daughter was encouraged to eat her vegetables at lunch, which actually made it an easier sell at home. Could they do a better job on that score? Yeah, probably, but again, not a dealbreaker. Now my daughter is in kindergarten at what is ranked as the best elementary school in the state. I firmly believe a big part of the reason she did as well on the selective enrollment test as she did because of the education she received at KIH. My daughter had such a great experience there that as much as she loves her new school, the days when she can go back and visit are practically holidays to her, and the teachers are so warm and welcoming that it's a pleasure to leave her in their care. We honestly feel incredibly lucky to have found KIH when we did. read more

I have a 10 year old daughter and a 5 year old son. While my day care experience with my daughter was not a very good one, my son who has been going to this day care since he was a toddler, has been very positive. The staff is very caring. They seem to know all the family members of each child enrolled and the director is very approachable and knowledgeable. Their program is well planned and offers children many activities. I looked at many different places even farther from where we live, and this was the best one. I only have good things to say about this school. read more

My child was in that day care for far to long! As usually i would drop of my child to daycare, was not to please that still after a year my son would still cry when being dropped off. I headed to work and around nine thirty received numerous calls stating my child had a "high fever" and was unable to stay there. Being that i work an hour away i contact everyone i possible could to pick up my child. After a couple minutes i recevied a very rude voicemail, stating " I told you, your son had to be pick up".. I contacted them back and asked what was his temperature and they couldnt even tell me and was told to call back. I called again and was told they were not allowed to disclose that information over the phone. Uh? hello i am his mother. When my mom got to the child care center she felt on my child's head which felt cool, so she ask the temperature be taken. My child's teacher refuse to take it! So my mother asked another staff to have it taken as was informed no fever, My mother then asked if he was given tylenol or any sort of medication to decrease the fever, and the answer was no. So of course my mother brought him home, i got there a couple hours later to a child running around just fine. The next day he was taken to day care again, but was not without a full body and fever inspection. I still could not believe they did that after they saw he had no fever. I ignored and went to work very unhappy. I rcieved a call a few hours later from the owner stating they had regulations and i had to follow them, i informed her i would coming in the next morning to speak with her. Well the next day i went, was not allowed to say one word. She kept going on and on on how they had rules to follow over sick kids. At this point i had had enough. My child would come home with bruises, scratches, busted lips and me trying to be understanding "hes a boy, hes likes to run around" i let it slide. But when i am being informed of my child having a high fever and its not true that upsets me! She did not let me say not one word, i told her if she was not going to let me express my mind that she needed to walk away, which she did. I stood there with a blank expressions. But of course the front staff had to say something even more rude to just top it of. She told be she was a single mother of 4 and that if she was contacted of her child having a fever she would do it quickly. Was she trying to be little me? Then she got loud and almost jumped over the desk. She literally had to be taken to another room with how close she got to my face. I had my child in my arms and every room was open as im sure other children heard her very rude comments. She then came back and informed me i needed to leave before she hurt me and if not i would have the police called. I stood there in shock! I asked for my child belongings, and her rude comment was "what are you still doing here, grab your child and leave"! I am beyond unhappy with how it was handled. But i am glad i got him out! read more

I can honestly say that I am completely satisfied with Kids In Harmony. My son, who is one week away from turning 2, has been going there for about a year now. He goes Mon-Thur full time. He absolutely loves it there! The teachers/ day care assistants are very nice and welcoming. They treat my son with such kindness and I have never found a reason to be unsatisfied with their care and attitude towards him. The lunch menu actually surprised me when I first saw it. Sure their are chicken nuggets and entrees of that nature on the menu but there is also pasta, salad, sandwiches, soups, etc. I find that it gives kids quite a but of variety. The breakfast menu is simple most days (cereal with fruit) but I am perfectly fine with that. I'm not bothered that the location of the daycare. Its a block away from the bus stop so it is very convenient for me. The fact that it is located on a main street which can get busy at times doesn't worry me. The kids cannot leave the facility on their own since there is always someone watching their whereabouts plus the toddlers room always has their door shut when the toddlers are inside. Plus, in order to enter the facility you must be buzzed in. That was a plus for me. I cannot give too much of an opinion on the cost since I have Action For Children therefore I only pay a small fee every month. I also must point out that I love the fact that my son brings home drawings and paintings just about every other day. I know that he is being able to let his creativity shine and is exploring different colors, shapes, etc. I appreciate that my son's teachers always inform me of any concerns they might have and they are always willing to answer any questions I have concerning my sons development, behavior, interaction, etc. I can go on and on about the things I liked but basically I am very happy I choose Kids In Harmony to care for my son. My son age 3 and daughter age 2 both attended KIH from 9/2012-11/2012. Although our time was short it was a great investment. I visited several preschool/daycares in my area Norwood Park and decided with KIH despite it's distance from my home and job. The owerners of this establishment were so kind and accommodating to us. The teachers were wonderful. My son learned so much in his short stay. He would come home singing songs he learned, counting in Spanish and English. He is only 3 but he recognizes all of his letters and knows their sounds. I am a Kindergarten teacher and I can tell you most kids don't come into Kindergarten knowing as much as he knows and I attribute a good portion of this to the time he had with KIH. I felt the establishment was clean,, organized and safe. Many times I would see the other children engaged in different Learning centers working cooperatively. It is a great balance of academics and nurturing. The reason we left was that my parents were able to help us and also the cost.. We paid $250 for 2 full days. You do get a better deal if your child is full time 5 days. My son now attends Norwood Park preschool which he likes, but it's not as academic, its more play time and socialization. He definately learned more at KIH. To those parents out there searching, I would highly recommend this place; it is a gem. read more

My kid has been here 3 years and will be here one more... she's learned a lot and we love the school. They don't just babysit the kids - they keep them active, teach them all different types of themed subjects (and usually make a bunch of adorable crafts to go with the theme), play with them, help them with socializing and overall good behavior. They take field trips, have parties, learn dance routines for their twice annual shows, go through a "graduation" ceremony, celebrate their achievements, etc. They have visitors like librarians, firefighters, music and dance teachers. The school is enriching, provides an actual curriculum ...and dare I say some sheets of homework for the older kids if your child is so inclined. Mostly, my kid has loved going here and she loves her teachers and her classmates. When she leaves here in a year, she will be very well equipped (maybe a bit ahead!) for big kids school. Bonus: the track record for the students that have left here has been very good regarding getting into excellent CPS schools. read more
