I'm on business in Brasília and this place is right next to my hotel. I've had meetings with…read moreseveral people this week and every time we walked by this place they pointed out that this is a cool spot and that I should go try their kebab. I learned that this is a popular lunch spot, but even busier during the evening and the wee hours of the morning...think midnight snack! On my last evening I didn't have dinner plans and due to the set-up of the city, you simply are not able to walk around and explore the area; as a pedestrian you are stuck inside your quadre. So, I had the choice of dining at the hotel (meh), go to the nearby chuarraceria (too much effort) or hang out with the locals at this place. Obviously I opted for the latter. Once I got there I walked among the tables to see what people were eating. Well, to be honest, most people were not eating at all, but were chatting away over copious amounts of chopp (typical ice-cold Brazilian beer). But a few people were eating away at what looked like a wrap - this must be their famous shawarma! So this is what I did: I went up to the counter, ordered a shawarma (carne) and a chopp. The person who took my order then asked me to sit down and shortly after I received my beer and a few minutes later my shawarma followed. And to be honest, it didn't look very exciting. But...it tasted really good. Especially when I generously sprinkled some hot sauces over it...yummy! This is when I wished I would've been here with one of my local experts: I wanted more! The shawarma was excellent, but didn't really fill me up. But, communication is difficult if you don't speak Spanish...errr Portuguese...and so I opted for the universal sign language: bringing my hand to my mouth and performing a drinking motion...the next chopp followed swiftly!

This is a really best kept secret if you are in Brasilia in the hotel area. The place has good food…read morefast service and for being a food truck extraordinarily clean with the seating area. There is even a waiter that will provide full service like a restaurant.

Wow, this evidently is THE place to be if you're in the Asa Norte area! I drove by several nights,…read moreand it was just jumping with people...you could feel the energy from the car! I actually came during the day, and no one told me about here, I just found it on a quick Google search for traditional Brazilian food on my first day in town. Obviously, I'm in Brazil, so EVERYTHING is Brazilian food. I wanted traditional though, but as I thought about it, I'd be able to experience traditional every day, so when I found Bar Beirute, and saw that it was a fusion of traditional and Middle Eastern, I was very intrigued. While ordering, I was torn between two dishes, one featuring steak and the other lamb. Brazilians are known for steak, while Middle Eastern cuisine is known for lamb. Again, seeing as how I knew I'd get traditional Brazilian food the rest of the trip, I opted for lamb, and man was this an excellent choice. My dish came with a sizeable boneless lamb, rice with kale and green peas, eggs with farinha (cassava flour), fries and a fried banana. The meal was absolute heavenly indulgence. My first meal in the country, and it as a homerun! Never tasted farinha before, and as my trip went on, it would show up on my plate a multitude of times. Brazilians love their cassava flour! It doesn't really have a particular savory taste, but the texture works well on many things, and it was great on the eggs here. That also was different, having eggs with a lunch meal, but again, it worked extremely well. And don't even get me started on the fried banana...wow. As great as the food was, my first Caipirinha may have even been better. Like the farinha, I ended up having Caipi's several times more on my trip, restaurant and homemade. None would even come close though to the one I had at Bar Beirute. The presentation was aesthetically pleasing with the many lime slices filling the cup. More importantly though, the flavor and strength of the lime juice, sugar and cachaca liquor made for a strong cocktail that woke me up out of any jetlag and properly introduced me to Brazil. WINNER!!!!!

Poor service, unclean everything, reheated food and a nice view. Save your time and go elsewhere…read more If they think this is AT ALL good they need to close down.
