Just a tiny store, most of Ponsonby Flowers' flowers are displayed on the street. And I love it. The arrangements brighten up the entire block of shops and definitely work to attract customers! Whether is a birthday, anniversary or just to tell someone that you're thinking of them, they are perfect for every occasion. On top of this fresh flowers do wonders in a room. I genuinely find I am happier when i've got a bunch in a vase. Ok, so now that I have voiced my love of flowers, let's talk about Roses specifically. Roses is as good as a local florist gets. Firstly, their staff are super knowledgable, helpful and they listen to what you want. Secondly, they always have a gorgeous range of flowers and a couple of unique plants. And thirdly, their card range is legit! On my most recent visit I also discovered that they have those washable paper bag/pot type things, you know the ones that you see in all the trendy cafes these days. I got a white one with big black crosses and have put a large orchid in it - looks wonderful! Unfortunately, Roses is a bit of a trek for me but if you live in the area and are looking for a florist this should mos def be your no. 1 port of call.

With the amount I was willing to spend, I wasn't expecting anything amazing. I ended up calling Roses on Friday afternoon to arrange 3 bouquets to be picked up on Saturday at 2pm. I told the florist to surprise me and just give me what they could. On saturday, the day of the pageant I got so overwhelmed I forgot to pick up the flowers. Thankfully I got a call and when I explained I wouldn't make it to the florist before it closed, the florist offered to leave the flowers at the shop next door to be picked up and I could leave the money there. When the flowers finally arrived to the venue, they where so beautiful and I could not believe I had only spent $50.

The flowers have also been consistently fresh, so quality is guaranteed. I like to tag along, as they can make up bunches to order, and for a guy on the move, I'm always using the visits as a good excuse to get gifts for all the staff who've done me favours in recent days. So our visit is a win win situation. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the shop is easy to access from the motorway, plus there is always parking right in front.

I was really pleased with what I got though; for around $20 I got a little self-watering bouquet, with heaps of fresh flowers, nestled into a pretty white box. It came in a really smart bag with sturdy cord carry handles, and inside that was beautifully parceled up in cellophane and ribbon, and looked amazing. For my second visit I ordered a substantial bouquet of sympathy flowers. The florist took my order really quickly and knew exactly what I had in mind without me having to really think about it. I pre-paid and the bouquet I picked up teh next day was incredible.

I have seen some other functions that Davina has done the flowers for and am always amazed at the creativity and the result. I'm very conservative when it comes to flower buying, and normally like to get bunches made up to suit my own taste. If the florist is unable to make a bunch to my design, then I would normally settle on a bunch that is of one sort of flower only, like yellow roses or just a basket full of poppies. Serena at Pretty Posies was full of advice and ideas, and she was more than helpful on a recent visit. She made up a bunch to my request, and also gave advice for a future purchase. This is a five star floral experience, and they're open on a Saturday, now that's convenient.

And everything has that awesome Korean twist to it, so if you need stickers of your favourite K-pop artists, here's where you head. The staff don't speak heaps of English but they are really sweet and approachable, and I'm sure their Korean is top-notch! When I had trouble figuring out if the alarm clock I bought there would play music or not (I really can't stand that end-of-the-world beep beep beep of doom), they unpacked the clock, put batteries in, and demonstrated it for me. Now that's good service.
