I have been a Kiko's Buyer for several years and decided to start consigning some things at the Friday auction barn. I took a lot of time to sort things and put them in attractive lots. I stayed around to see how things went. I found it makes a huge difference which auctioneer handles your stuff. Today was a sunny day with hundreds of bidders. Early on with the senior auctioneers, things sold at relatively high prices because they knew what they were selling and took time to describe the items, generating interest. My lot was right in the middle of everything and, by luck of the draw, didn't sell until nearly last when most people had left. Although I wasn't happy, I know that's how things work. My complaint is that I also drew a junior, somewhat arrogant, auctioneer who made no attempt to sell anything. He characterized a box of vintage maps as "a box of paper". It sold for a dollar. Several boxes of Fenton milk glass went for a couple of dollars because he made no attempt to describe the items or encourage bidding. For a box of vintage Mason jars, he actually said "a bunch of bottles. Get them out of here." He called a woman from some a distance away to tell her she could have them for 50 cents. For a box of collectible plates, he took a look and said pass, not even asking for bids. And I am quoting him exactly. I will never take the time to sell things with them again. I'd rather give my stuff to Goodwill. On a side note, the crowd is full of thieves. If you can't take all your stuff to the car immediately chances are good something will be stolen. I actually caught one man walking away with a train car I bought. He said someone sold it to him for $2 and refused to give it back. Luckily I was able to prove it was mine and got it back. Yesterday, A lot of 6 lawn chairs I was watching was down to 2 by the time the auctioneer came around. People complain all the time but Kiko does nothing. They need some kind of security or checkout system. UPDATE: one of the managing Kiko auctioneers called me and heard every word I had to say. He said he was already aware of the problem auctioneer and would take further corrective action. When I got my check, it was for the full selling amount with no deductions for auction fees. Although I really think I was shortchanged because of the auctioneer's incompetence, I think Kiko management made a good faith effort to make the situation right. read more

I found this company to be "shady" with their online bidding. Their photographs of merchandise was horribly staged and the broken up lots seemed to be intentional. If you're bidding WATCH for the glitches in the "system"... I was NOT IMPRESSED and will not participate in any of their other auctions. read more

My experience with KIKO has been completely unacceptable. I purchased and paid for a jewelry lot from my grandparents' estate auction containing pieces of my grandmother's jewelry that were both deeply sentimental to me and valuable in their own right. KIKO photographed, cataloged and sold the jewelry. At the authorized pickup, a significant portion was missing. KIKO was notified immediately. Surveillance was reviewed to determine what happened, and the handling and movement of the property shown on that surveillance only compounded my concerns about how this lot was managed. I expressly told KIKO that I did not consent to a refund as resolution, that recovering the missing property remained my priority, and that if recovery failed, we needed to have a separate conversation about resolution. Instead, KIKO refunded the purchase price without my consent and without ever having that conversation. Communication throughout this ordeal has been exceptionally poor. I have repeatedly had to pursue updates myself, and multiple written requests for documentation regarding the handling and distribution of my property by KIKO representatives still remain unanswered. Perhaps most disappointing is the complete lack of basic human empathy. Not once throughout this entire situation has anyone from KIKO simply said, "I'm sorry this happened." Given the deeply personal nature of what was lost, even that basic acknowledgment would have meant something. An auction company entrusted with other people's property and family estates should demonstrate proper handling, organization, accountability and communication when something goes wrong. Based on my experience, KIKO failed to meet those basic expectations. I would not trust KIKO with property that mattered to me, and I absolutely cannot recommend this company. read more

I normally don't write reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience. I worked directly with Dick Kiko and Colton Kiko at KIKO Realtors in connection with the auction of multiple properties. From the beginning, I was not clearly informed about key risks, including how auction pricing would be handled or the potential outcomes. During the process, properties were sold at prices significantly below market value, including one property sold for under $10,000 despite prior discussions and comparable values being substantially higher. When I raised concerns immediately and refused to move forward, I was required to pay $4,000 for a "mutual release" under the understanding that this would fully resolve the situation and release all parties. However, after signing and paying, I was later told that I would need to pursue the buyer independently despite having no direct contact with them, as all communication had been handled through their office. Additionally, requests for documentation and clarification have not been fully addressed. This experience has raised serious concerns for me regarding communication, transparency, and handling of the transaction. I strongly recommend that anyone considering working with this company fully understands all terms, risks, and documentation before proceeding. read more

I've dealt with many auctioneers as a buyer. When I contact them, I expect to leave a message, since hours from where I live & any given auctioneer will be different. Most auctioneers are courteous enough to take calls off hours and on weekends, but not Kiko. I called expecting to simply leave a message, but the owner or whoever the man was that answered. I proceeded with the reason for my call and he cut me off telling me that it was after hours and he'd appreciate it if I called during business hours. I have no problem doing so, but don't be an ass about it and if you don't want to take calls, maybe don't use your personal cell phone number or don't pick up and let it go to message...like MOST auctioneers with a good attitude. I wont be giving this auctioneer anymore of my business and caution others to be careful with this rude guy with a matching attitude. read more

Shill bidding. Lots and lots of it. Recently worse. I hope they pay property owners for the stuff they shill bid. Edited pics to conceal wear and damage happens ALL THE TIME. Assume stuff is in rough shape. New isnt new. Their photo taking exaggerates size. Some listings say loading help's available, but the fellows are too busy chatting and texting to help. I've seen them laying down...lots of staff..very few working. read more

I used to have respect for Kiko but not after today. They came and speak to the Probate dept in the law firm where I work. I thought they were ok. Maybe it's just my experience with Matt Kiko. I've spent thousands bidding on Matt Kiko's (Rochester) personal property auctions. This is the second time they have lost an item I bid on. It's so disorganized when you walk in to pick up your items and there's such a rush to get you out the door. Didn't get a vase the first time, now a victorian step stool is missing. I emailed the office no reply. The holidays passed and I emailed Matt again today. I'm not happy I'm out over $80.00 on both items but his response is what prompted me to write this review. I wrote to Kikos main office over a week ago and response was I'll forward to Matt to look for your item. No email response returned therefore I wrote again today and response was one word "OKAY". Didn't reply to my question of did you locate my item, therefore wrote again and response was "NO"! Just wonderful customer service. I work in the Probate dept of a law firm and if I responded to clients in that manner they would fire me! Not even a sorry I lost your stuff for the second time. This place held an auction of antiques including so-called "early swords". I bid on one described as "medieval style,age unknown" and won it. Including expensive shipping overseas I spent over $1000 in my currency,only to find when it arrived that it was a piece of total new fake trash,made of cast bronze. They clearly knew all along that it was modern and that there was no way it had any age. Since when were medieval swords made of cast bronze?? When I politely asked for a refund they didn't want to know and just hid behind their terms and conditions and made threats to blacklist me on the auction hosting website if I attempted to get a refund through my bank. I hate to think what they do to their real estate buyers! I wouldn't trust them to sell a bag of beans. F**k them to hell! read more

When my father passed, we needed to sell his home. My sibling was convinced an auction was the way to go over listing with a realtor. The set up was smooth, but when the auction started, two people got into a bidding war. The winning bid was well over the market value. That was great - except the bidder was not approved for a loan as high as she bid. The next day the bidder had buyer's remorse. Our auctioneer, Bob Young, suggested we let her out of the agreement with no penalty. We were very frustrated and did not agree with his recommendation, so we let the bidder out of the agreement, holding back a substantial amount of the earnest money. Kiko ended up keeping $5,500 of that for themselves. Bob went to the second bidder and that bidder offered significantly less than his bidding offer during the auction. We still accepted that offer, then that buyer backed out. Unfortunately, Kiko has the contract set up so that you HAVE to list with them if the auction falls through. If you list with a different agency, they charge a 10% fee on the selling price of the house. So, we were stuck with Kiko as the selling broker for listing. They charge a 7% commission fee and DO NOT split with the buyer's agent. So, we ended up paying 9% commission for the sale of my father's home. It was NOT worth selling via auction with Kiko. I wish we would have listed the home with a realtor who knew the community and competitive listing prices for homes in the area. The lesson is: Read the damn contract carefully and negotiate before signing anything! read more

This review is from a SELLER's viewpoint regarding Kiko's auction business. Today I received a check from Kiko's for $383.05. After paying $350 for Kiko's to send a truck to come and get my mom's household items which included china, glassware, two cedar chests, Al Jolson to Woodstock record albums, FIRST EDITION books with their original dust jackets, bedroom furniture and more ... MY NET WAS $33.05. I had underscored the first edition books and other "treasuries" to the young man - a fourth-generation Kiko - who had picked up the items along with a coworker - the house was sold and the closing was scheduled for the next day. He REASSURED me that the worth would be spotted by their team of experts and be promoted/priced accordingly. Plus he said he would be conducting the auction of Friday and would keep the value in mind. These are the selling prices of some of the items sold by Kiko's (before their 35% commission): * Washer & dryer - $10. * A Cedar wardrobe chest sold for $35, while the matching Cedar trunk drew $22.50. * A three-piece white bedroom set - $25. * An original Woodstock album is currently selling on Ebay for $99 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Woodstock-* * Music-from-the-Original-Soundtrack-and-More-/222193287093?hash=item33bbc07fb5:g:P6YAAOSwaB5Xj-ag - YET that album and hundreds of other albums were sold as a lot by Kikos for a mere $25. * Hundreds of books, many first editions, averaged $5 a lot. * A very large framed print from the Metropolitan Museum of Art - $1. * TWELVE SHELVES of china, three patterns - $130. * Grandparents record player - $10. * Wooden table with built in lamp - $5. * Push lawn mower - $7.50 * Wooded bookcase - $1. I live in New York City; my mom has Alzheimer's and now lives in assisted living. When my childhood home unexpectedly sold and the buyer's wanted to move in asap, I had to make arrangements to take time off from work, come to Ohio and empty the house - quickly. I had called two specialty consignment stores - a bookseller and an album buyer - but was unable to get them to come to the house and access the goods in time for the closing. Kiko's did succeed in emptying the house, which closed on time. But getting $33.05 for a lifetime of treasuries collected by my mom from her travels all over the world was not expected and a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. Monday morning quarterbacking ... I would have rented space in a local storage unit and moved the valuable items there until I could have made a better economical/bottom-line decision regarding their sale - and NOT ENGAGED KIKO. Those with aging parents, especially if you live out of state, learn from my MISTAKE. read more

Terrible. No accurate descriptions for online only auctions. Broken items are sold. They demand you sign for items before picking them up.

Kiko is very family oriented, their staff is all related and very personable, a likeable bunch. They deserve a measure of respect. But, like other sellers who trust in Kiko, I feel a little swindled. My mother and father passed away recently and left behind a treasured family estate, and no will! I trusted Kiko with an enormous collection antiques, fine china, Longaberger baskets, imported rugs, designer furniture, signed artwork and sports memorabilia, Lladro figurines as well as a handful of modern appliances; new fridge/freezer combo, washer/dryer, quality dining room set up. The total sales for all the items above, as well as all the other junk in the house, only pulled down $2,250 and Kiko, for their service, handed me a bill for $2,650! I owed them $400 for selling the stuff in my parent's house! I couldn't believe it. Now, their service and staff deserved that $2,600 for all their service and cleaning and hard work. That bill isn't the issue. I feel swindled because the agent who coordinated with me deterred my brother and I from going through the house ourselves, spending hours, days even, researching the value of each item and then lining up buyers, if any, to purchase it for that value. A daunting task, no doubt, especially when grieving. So Kiko offered us another way. What my brother and I didn't realize is what we might as well have said, "You can have ALL this stuff if you can sell it." And sell it they did. On auction day, in the span of merely 90 minutes, everything was gone! Now if that is your aim, to sell everything in a hurry not caring for its value, then this is perfect. Kiko even cleaned the house after everything went. But I'm still tormented by the egrious difference between what everything sold for and what it was worth. Sure, sure- it's not their fault the bids were low that day. I agree. I'm only sour towards Kiko for seeing all the valuables in the house and, at mention of me holding my own estate/garage sale on premise and online, they talk me out of it and say I would be better off just leaving it all to them. Sounded easier at the time. At the time, I was grateful. The auction itself was also very destructive to the property. So many people in the house, marking up the walls when they move furniture, knocking mirrors off their mounts, one person even knocked a spindle from the indoor balcony when descending the stairs. Very painful to watch as I was still sort of attached to that house and I didn't want to spend my final days with it watching it get beat to pieces. Again, not Kiko's fault. But they were at fault for losing a one-of-a-kind antique brass key that unlocked a china display case. The key never moved from its spot in a drawer next to the keyhole until Kiko came in to rearrange everything and when the buyer of the display asked me about the key, I was blown away to find out it had somehow been lost in the blunder of activity that went on that day. And although the buyer accepts they bought the display in "as-is" condition, I was hurt to know that, without the key, they could not come to appreciate it as my parents once did. And knowing the buyers will value your family treasures, or find someone who will, is often times more important than their money. Also, worth mentioning, is my mom had bought some designer marble lamps in Italy years back. There were three of them in a set. When I arrived to the auction, they were being sold separately for ludicrously low price. (just a few dollars apiece) I don't know, maybe not worth being mad about, but seemed kind of sad to see those lamps separated once and for all. Kiko didn't seem to care about the relationship between any items. Another example includes my father's stereo and surround sound system. Each part was sold in separate piles, despite how the units, when assembled, created the whole. Now, they also sold the estate itself and I'm not disappointed with the final bid. If that had been all I hired them to do, this would have been a five star review. I'm confident other sellers have had a much better experience. I would give zero stars if I could. Do not have anything to do with this company - Kiko Auctions. Recently, I went to pick up some items of furniture I had bought at auction. The property, house (100 years old and in disrepair), and household goods had been auctioned off. I was struggling to move a very heavy, bulky piece that I had purchased, and in the process accidentally caused a small scratch in the old wood flooring (which was riddled with numerous marks/scratches and in overall disrepair). An auctioneer, Pete Kiko, came by and asked whose credit card he should charge for the repair of the scratch. He was serious. Instead of offering to help move the item he wants to charge me for an accidental scratch in an old rundown wood floor. I was shocked and appalled at his rudeness, unhelpfulness, and lack of class. I will be contacting my lawyer. My best advice is to avoid these people, and take your business elsewhere. You'll be glad you did. MB MD read more

Fun conversations when appropriate to keep things moving. They have enough staff to help you get your winnings home if you don't own a truck. For a price, of course. Went to pick up a number and the clerk initially refused my request for her to wear a mask, but eventually complied. I was told that since it was a private vehicle it wasn't required. Also, Social distancing was not enforced throughout the entire hour long auction, and most of the people attending were not wearing face coverings. read more

Kiko auctioned all the household items from my moms estate . When the auction was over they told me I owed them money . WHAT ,,,,!,,,,!! Thats similar to another review . My advice is to skip the auction and have a tag sale ,then u keep most of the money . Live and learn read more

Dishonest!! Will say whatever they can to get you to bid. Camouflage pertinent information. Will take advantage of any loophole to penalize or charge fees or penalties. AVOID at all costs! read more
