Interesting spot in Akron, an old warehouse full of building materials - mostly wood - doors, flooring, trims, etc. My partner has been finding quality hard woods for making cutting boards. The building itself is an old structure from Akron's industrial past, and it's great to see a business thriving there. It's open to the elements, so you definitely need your coat, gloves and hat when shopping in the winter. There's ample off street parking and you get an impressive view of the Route 8/77 highway construction from the front entrance. read more

Not a source of quality materials. The materials are cheap but highly priced. The staff is friendly but do not know what customer service is. Shopping in the summer is fine but during the fall, winter and spring is not worth the trip. The roof leaks on materials and there is always water on the floor. We saw 4 large critters running around the clutter. They probably had better service with one location but they cannot manage two stores. Your phone calls will not get returned and you have to physically go to the store to ask a question. All the positive reviews are by friends and family and not actual customers. read more

Don't waste your time. John the father and John the son are really good guys but they don't have time to make a sale or provide service. I waited 5 weeks for an estimate for a counter top but they never called back. I stopped in several times to set up the estimate but I was told "my dad knows about the estimate but he is really busy. I don't know when he will call you but the ball is in his court." I advised that I removed half my counter tops with the understanding that Akron Materials would sell/install the counter top but I was told again they don't know when they would be out. These guys NEVER called me back, lost my phone number twice and never had the decency to tell me to flake off if they weren't going to sell/install the counter tops. Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra and go to Lowe's or Home Depot as they will actually sell you an item and will set up dates/times for estimates. read more

I came to Akron material to buy new flooring for my house and they did not disappoint. Literally the best customer service I could have expected. Every single worker from customer service to the men loading material were very professional and helpful. I plan on being a forever customer. Save your time, they don't want your money! I just left there without making a purchase! I walked passed an employee blowing leaves to go inside. He didn't point the blower away or turn it off to acknowledge me, just let me walk past. Once inside, I started looking around for someone to help. After announcing my presence, I went back out side and asked the guy where everybody was at. He was the only one there. So, being kinda' curious, I asked if he had seen me walk by knowing nobody was in there to help and he said yes, he was about to head in, that he wanted to get the leaves before it got too windy. I just shook my head. I'd never been there before and had no idea where to go when inside. I'm glad that the leaves that had been on the ground for how long were more important than my couple hundred dollar order and future business. Show a little more enthusiasm for business , don't smack your gum and lose the attitude. I get it, you don't need my money. read more

This place is absolutely the bomb. I have made several purchases, pricing is more than competitive! Receive great customer service made a couple of phone inquiries before coming and again just great customer service. I will go to them before I go to any of the retail stores they have been able to accommodate whatever I was looking for. Love it!! read more

I have never felt so strongly compelled to write a review in my life. The owner was spectacular. True man of his trade and knowledge. He spent hours with us sorting through every piece of wood to find the perfect fit for my moms dream project for her new home. If you are doing any project start here. Today I found inspiration at the entrance of this huge old warehouse, greeted by a beautiful coffee table constructed with crates and an equally visually & artistically pleasing pallet coffee table. Leaded windows, crates and an adjustable wooden Christmas tree the owner of the business made himself- so much to work with! This is the perfect place for anyone who is looking to buy doors, windows, wood, etc and repair their home or create a work of art. It is not like your local chain hardware store, what is here is truly in the eye of the beholder. You can find sinks and granite counter tops but you wont find actual building supplies (drills, nails, wallpaper). My father went to high school with the owner, who is always incredibly nice & very fair in his pricing. He spent time with me showing me his latest projects & even that of his friends work on Facebook. I was able to purchase a very nice crate for just $10.00 & a leaded window for $20.00- honestly you just can't beat the prices. read more
