South Shore of course has: - Rentable pavilion that hosts a lot of weddings - South Shore Beer Garden top notch - Newly constructed beach area - South Shore Farmer's Market - Picnic areas - Volleyball (sand courts) - Playground - Oak Leaf Trail cuts through it - Bike trail - Fishing (shared with Cuppertino off the docks by the SS Yacht Club) The views of Milwaukee's Downtown are some of the best, and you gotta respect South Shore Park in Bay View.

This park, perfectly situated overlooking Lake Michigan is perched on a plot of that land gives great 360 degree views of the area. There is plenty of parking, a playground, an expansive green space perfect for picnics and a pavilion with restrooms.

The views of the lake can be spectacular at the right time of day and when the weather cooperates. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I can't wait to visit in the autumn when the peak color changes occur.

I totally forgot that they also have a playground. And a nice one at that! Slides, swings, and climbing galore. Also plenty of benches and picnic tables to break for snack time. This park is really nicely kept, with cut grass and trimmed trees. A sidewalk wraps around the whole thing sending you in directions of so many places that are walking-distance. The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist sits on one side as well, which is a pretty sight. From here you can also jump on the Hop, as the line runs right along it. Cathedral Square also brings tons of outdoor festivals, concerts, and picnic opportunities. Don't skip on spending time outdoors!

Kletzsch is particularly stunning as it has a large damn that many people fish in. It's also a great launching point for kayak's and canoes to head up or down the Milwaukee River. We enjoy walking the pooch and pushing through the woods down over near the massive spans of park in that area. Either way it's just a serene and casual walk where you can hear the sound of rushing water. This section of the Milwaukee river is quite high right now. It's amazing to note the changes in land mass that the river engulfs in comparison to drier times. I've even ventured out below the railroad tracks that pass over the river just down from the damn a ways. Nature at it's best on the outskirts of the great city I call home, Milwaukee!

I did learn that if you're a young girl alone asking your Lyft driver to leave you at the park when it's covered in snow it will draw red flags and you'll have the cops looking for you. Mainly wondering why you're wandering the park completely alone. Lol Made for good memories and should that Wisconsin people are very nice and caring compared to other places. Hopefully I'll get to come back to this Park when it's not completely covered in snow and I can freely explore.

But really, the place is fun for bigger humans too. I got quite a workout trying to get some height on those swings. They are attached very high up, so it's much harder than it looks. Fortunately for wee ones, pushing from an adult works very well though. Check out the Cavorting Critters sculpture across the street too. That's the only side with street parking anyways.

This one has been transforming over the past few years, it's become almost a sculpture garden (not enough sculptures to be a true sculpture garden), almost a summer music venue (not enough live music to be listed as a music venue), and they took out my favorite picnic table, but they are constructing and planting an interesting central tiered planter flower box. Well I assume those will be flowers, any way that's now where I set for tiffin lunches, weather permitting.

Hawthorn Glen is a 23-acre nature center that primarily serves as a field trip location on weekdays…read morefor 12,000 children annually. Natural features include steep bluffs, flood-plain hardwood forest, spring-fed wetland, and a restored prairie. Visitors to this urban nature center can explore five different habitats interconnected by a trail system. The public is welcome to utilize the facility and the well-marked ¾ mile self-guided nature trail in the evenings or on weekends (the lower trail is mostly blacktopped and ADA accessible). Many seasonal programs are offered on the weekends. Trails are designated for hiking only. Hikers are reminded to leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but memories, and watch for wildlife. Hawthorn Glen is home to deer, foxes, raccoons, opossum, rabbits, chipmunks, woodchucks, two species of hawks, many migratory birds, and songbirds of all kinds year-round. The website states, also, "Come visit our Nature Museum and see native animals of Wisconsin, including tree frogs, several species of turtles and our six foot bullsnake. If you're just up for a short, beautiful hike, I recommend going here. You will not feel like you are in the middle of the city. It is beautiful, and we had an incredible hike! It would be a beautiful place to have a picnic, or bring your kids as they have children's playgrounds and the educational center. They even have goose ducks and a few animals that you can go look at.

The water here is clean and fit for swimming, and tgere is usually always a lifeguard in the summer which is great! You can get down to the beach by either using the stairs or the trails to the side. The only negative part about this park is that it is currently undergoing construction which limits parking. Other than that, it is a place I would highly recommend everyone to visit in Milwaukee.
