If the fully lit exterior doesn't draw you in, then the open doors, live music and pure energy is sure to! A combination of all three got us, and it was a glorious time! The bar is classic in all ways from layout, decor, live music, drink options, service, etc...a true local Irish pub that is welcoming, loud and fun. We were in Killarney for a few days and each evening walked by and this place stays packed, which initial was something we were not excited about, but we figured "why not!". The evening we wandered in, it was again packed, but everyone was moving and shaking to allow folks an opportunity grab a drink at the bar. There was also live acoustic music, which was great to stay and enjoy. We grabbed a pint, found a corner and just enjoyed the vibes...and of course the Guinness. We visited pubs all around Ireland on our trip and The Grand was one of the more memorable spots. Do not be deterred by the crowds, its packed for good reason!

Being able to feed and play with baby lambs, kid goats, puppies, rabbits, and even a deer made for a wonderful couple of hours. That's not to mention the full grown sheep, donkeys, chickens, turkeys, etc etc etc. There were several areas to wash up, and lots of play areas for kids to enjoy (with and without the animals). They had a lot of puppies when we went but only 3 kittens. We didn't get to play with the kittens because they only do kittens and puppies one at a time. It was super fun playing with and feeding all the animals. Would definitely be a good place for kids. They have playgrounds too. It was €8 for adults.

A fascinating demonstration of using border collies to herd sheep and an interesting demonstration…read moreof sheep shearing. We were on a CIE Tour of Scotland and Ireland and the Kissane Sheep Farm was part of our itinerary. It was truly fascinating watching them use the border collies to herd sheep. All of the communication with the dogs was non-verbal and consisted primarily of whistles. The dogs responded to these non-verbal commands and were quite proficient at herding the sheep. After watching the dogs, we then moved inside one of the barns for a demonstration of sheep shearing. One man narrated the demo and explained the process of how the sheep are sheared and when is the best time of year to shear the sheep. The other man did an amazing job of completely shearing a sheep in a matter of minutes - with the coat coming off in 1 large piece. This offered a great look at the local culture.

This is such a great place to bring the kids. For a small fee you can walk about a mile pathway…read morewhere they have traditional farm cottages on display. Each of the houses have an actor that cooks bread and you can see various farm animals like Chickens, Pigs, Donkeys, horses, cows, goats etc. There is a small animal section for petting which is a really nice addition. They have a play ground for small children. The whole thing can take about 2 hours total depending on how long you stop for. It is well worth a try!
